    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  5 месяцев назад +3

      Hi Donald! There are some significant differences as shown on the video. If you don't need the extra features the Thinkdiag will be more than enough but as explained on the video, the Thinkdiag 2 would make sense for those looking for the extra capabilities. Cheers!

      @@AlexAutoFun In short, what are these differences?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  День назад

      @@really_swaggles The ThinkDiag 2 has more capability than the ThinkDiag (which as explained in the video, may be needed for certain vehicles but for some users it may not be needed). The form factor is also very different, Thinkdiag is tiny and ThinkDiag 2 is larger and has separate dongle which as explained on the video has some advantages but if you want to carry on your vehicle all the time it is bulkier. I breakdown the differences towards the end of the video, feel free to use the video chapters to jump to the section you want to see. Cheers!

    Great video, I am a newer tech and I am looking at upgrading my ability to scan. All I have now is a basic code reader (Blue-point EECR1B). I don't really have the money to get a completely dedicated scan tool so I thought getting a dongle would be a logical upgrade. I have been looking into the Thinkdiag2 but wanted to know if you have any other suggestions. Thank you!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  24 дня назад

      Thank you K! Ah yes the Thinkdiag and Thinkdiag 2 are good in between scanners, I go over this more in the Thinkdiag video ruclips.net/video/Yy21TsscA_c/видео.html Now if budget is not a concern and you are pretty sure that this is the career you want to be in, then jumping into a full size tool like this one ruclips.net/video/leqYNPJ16M4/видео.html may make more sense, just really depends on if you see this as a long term thing or if you want to test the waters out first before investing into equipment. Cheers!

      Hi Nsabosd! The price varies depending on what area your are located at, if there are any discounts or coupons going on, how many yrs the renewal will be for and also when you renew (it's likely price will be different every year). You can also contact Thinkcar if you want an estimate but like I mentioned there will be many factors affecting price. Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi! Normally brakes and normal maintenance can be performed without using a scanner. Reading codes can also be performed with a basic scanner like this ruclips.net/video/I4MHG-6BdXs/видео.html However if you are looking to access advanced functions of the ABS module, both the Thinkdiag and Thinkdiag2 support Honda (you can see Honda during the vehicle coverage portion of the video) Cheers!

      Hi Tarik! The Thinkdiag 1 or 2 would be good choice if you are in a very limited budget. However if budget allows a larger scanner like this one would be a better choice ruclips.net/video/d1wFA3gsq20/видео.html as it will support multiple vehicles after the expiration date, where the Thinkdiag is really meant for the at home mechanic that may only need to work on a single car. • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Akos! Unfortunately I have not tested Carly so I can't comment on it's features or performance. However yes Thinkdiag supports activation features. Just remember that actually being able to activate a specific component or feature varies from vehicle to vehicle (vehicles have different levels of control, some allow you to active more things than others) Thinkcar does accepts VIN numbers if you want them to check if it will be able to access the specific function you need. And I have more scanner reviews on my channel in the playlist "OBD2 Scanner Reviews" if you like to compare them. Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Tech! The scanner supports TMPS, however the actual PID's you will be able to read will depend on your car depending on which sensors it has and what information those sensors can communicate to external tools (Some TPMS systems can communicate actual PSI and some can only communicate if they are off their target PSI. ThinkCar does accepts VIN #'s if you want them to check if it will be able to access the function you need. Cheers!

    Does thinkdiag have timing adjustment feature?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  27 дней назад

      Hi S! Scanners typically do not have the ability to adjust timing as this is normally a mechanical feature requiring physical adjustment. However a scanner could potentially be used to confirm current timing or if the timing is being adjusted by looking at the PID data that relates to timing (usually inside ECM in the scanner menu). So while this scanner does support access to the ECM actually being able to activate, learn a specific component or read a particular PID varies from vehicle to vehicle (vehicles have different levels of control, some allow you to access more things than others) Thinkdiag does accepts VIN numbers if you want them to check if it will be able to access the specific function you need. Cheers!

    can it do immo keys/fobs? does it work on European cars? does it have topology?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Joey! The Thinkdiag 2 does supports IMMO (you can see that function around the 3:55 mark) but the ability to add a key to your car will depend on the type of key (there are different transponders and frequencies), the year and model of the car etc. Also remember some cars allow you to reuse non virgin keys, and other cars won't (but this can sometimes be bypassed by a dedicated IMMO tool that can make a key virgin again). Regarding EU cars, yes, there is coverage as shown around the 8:20 mark where I cover the supported car brands. Cheers!

    Can this show live transmission temperature?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  4 месяца назад

      Hi Amtrak! Yes the scanner does support reading the transmission temperature. Just remember that some vehicles are not equipped with a transmission temperature sensor, some are quipped with a one but it does not communicate to scanners or only sends the signal to a cluster gauge, and some are equipped with one and can also send data out to a scan tool for readout. Thinkcar does accepts VIN numbers if you want them to check if it will be able to access the specific function you need. Cheers!
