Gating a delay tail to minimize unwanted sounds to keep a mix sonically balanced is a great tip. Thanks.
Some really different and interesting techniques! Thanks SonicScoop for all the fantastic Masterclasses!!!
What I like about Rich is that he uses a variety of plugins from different guys. He's not a 'so and so' plugin snob. If you get what I mean? Some good insights, I like the template routing.
Love this guys work. He uses the same approach that I've found works best for me, but for someone who listens to the minute differences in sound quality for a living, he sure does smack his gum awfully loud! I'm gonna have to run RX Mouth Noise on this before I can finish it!
Whoa! really tons of good information here! Thanks everybody!
Great masterclass. Thank you...
the gum chewing and breathing were really well mic'ed
Do you even ASMR bro 😋
Amazing masterclasses. Thank you!
Thank you. Tons of great info and tips.
I'd love to see some on/off examples, just to hear the differences.
Yeah I tend to agree, however I think it would take too long for this format. I think it's more valuable him talking through the reasons why.
That's the Mangini's sound DT need in their next album!!!
@Sample Dude If that was true, DT would not be were they are today.
Subbed!! Beats school!..sorta.. went to school for music ed and feel like I know nothing about recording. This helps:) thanks for sharing this excellent content!!
Multiband for controlling hi hat bleed on the snare, that's brilliant...
Exactly like i use on my snare. Same plugin and similar setings. Works great
I love using multiband for all kinds of things, especially mild instrumental ducking when the vocals or lead instruments come in - that carves out a little extra room just for the frequencies that the vox need to be present without pushing everything else down full band. My fav for this is izotope's Alloy 2.
Other than the fact that mics and gum do not go well together, this was very good!
press play... omg we work with sound
By 5:15, we all learned that we can do this all in the box... if we have the mixing console from the old Sound City.
at 4:55 he says they recorded drums there. does he say elsewhere they mixed them there too?
rafael marchante angulo doesn’t matter the drums sound great before he even gets to mixing.
@@ERICdaGREAT09 Totally. It goes without saying. Still the tutorial was not "how to mix crappy sounding stems and make them sound great". It's "Analog Sounds in the Box". Whith this level of guest you would not expect the takes to sound crap or be recorded in a mediocre studio... ultimately this is just promo for their soft plugins. If we learn stuff in the process so much better for us
rafael marchante angulo right but the analog sound isn’t coming solely from ITB plugs. It was already baked in before the plugs even hit it. So the title is still a bit misleading. Yea he’s still mixing like it was an analog desk. But that “analog” sound was already there. He’s not showing here how to achieve it.
@@ERICdaGREAT09 right. as you know the industry is quite compartmentalized. people at this level are not expected to take care of every step of a recording generally. If you're a mixing engineer you take care of that part of the process (which is what this tutorial is about). if you get given tracks to work with that don't sound good (or analog, or anuything else) reverting them to sounding good (or analog or anything else) is probably impossible, or in any case unrelated to what this video is about. I was not expecting, upon beginning to watch thi video, that the mixing process was going to involve any magic of that sort. Just top notch recordings being mixed in the box etc..
I have a stupid question but i'd liked to if the the left and right samples are stereo channels panned left and right or mono channels panned left and right?
After studying up on the currents mixing culture, I think my limitations are less than my mixing skills and More in my arrangements skills and knowing how to put different instruments together
Lol when he played the track, I thought it was some sort of professional track you laid with the video but then I realized he's the one who mixed it. Hahaha super professional sound
Interesting, but not enough audio exemples, too much gum chewing
Cant find the song? anyone?

So Dwight Schrute is also a top level mixer, nice
Great thing this was recorded to video, seems like nothing got into anyone attending lol.
Thanks for the upload.
P.s. Anyone got a link to UA Plugins cracked ver.
Buy plugins, stop using cracks. It's shitting where you eat.
It would have been nice to hear what the plugins do..
A masterclass in plugin salesmanship.😂
does he look like an older dwight schrute or am I high
😂🤣

Good grief! That's a lot of drums and sounds like he uses all of em. Rich is very articulate...explaining things with verbiage that I immediately understand. Some commenters don't like the gum chewing...ok. whatever, dudes drums sound killer.
You haven't heard Dream Theater's last two albums.
Lecture/demonstration 101, spit out gum before starting
yep thats right
Too many examples... Obviously not for starters .. Very well explained :-)
Sis
Sfate has
Stone the Crows Mate pass out the Aspros.
Tracking mike mangini sounds like a nightmare
Great masterclass (except for the mic'd up gum chewing!)
What up moe?
He just explained most of the tracks. Didn't even play them individually.
So this is a pro audio content….who the hell put the headset on that guy ?
lol, these prog rock guys
A bit of attitude about emulated guitar, but ususe samples?!
Subtitles please...,)
Interesting stuff but audio examples of the techniques he is describing would go a long way. It's a wasted opportunity.
as we use reference songs for mixing, should be good use reference YT video to compare ITB vs Analog, in the ¨mix with the masters¨ series it is very funny to me when i listen to Tchad Black who mix ITB then i switch and listen to Andy Wallace or Brauer with his big console and his racks, to me the big consoles works are far aways more powerfull and beautifull sounding than those who mix ITB, i agree there are lots of reasons to mix ITB today but the sound quality is not one IMHO ;-)
There are ways to get analog sound ITB, but he only touches on a few. Sad.
as someone who is new to audio engineer, I have the utmost respect for multi instrumentalist engineers. no way my young ass has thew time, patience or money to learn all this stuff. Ill stick to hip hop lmao
Wow! I would never use a plugin on my music.
Then you won't be recording ever in the future. Once your tape machine dies, you will use a plugin. What is the issue? Nothing!
errrm...
That BELLY THO! YOU EATING GOOD FAM!
the worst positioning of a headset mic I have ever seen
I am doing mixing everyday
Who gives a fuck if he is chewing gum. God forbid you do something you like while giving a lesson
The gum chewing is absolutely so rude and disgusting! No manners in this man!
Oh shut the fuck up!
This guy ruined Dream Theater like Bob Rock ruined Metallica. Canada sure produces some "gems."
The only thing that sounded good here was the snare drum
To me this guy destroyed DT sound
Maybe his digital approach
Hope he founds a better sound that suits DT
I don’t take any audio advice from a channel that starts such a video with sampled double bass horseshit.
