I was v small child when I went with my parents to watch khilona, I was sleeping fr almost 2 . 5 hrs. But when I grew up n watch movie again then I understood what a master piece movie is everything more than perfect, frm story acting dialogue, excellent music by L P, songs written by bakshi sb n sweetest voice of rafi sb n asha tai. Now never ever even dream that some one will again try to make movie like khilona. Hindi cinema started dying after end of 80s.

he did get both and didn't accept them because he came to know that the original tamil film hero Late great sivaji ganesan didnt get the award due to anti south feeling in those days which he deserved , that is what is called nepotism and prejudice in the hindi film industry and north india as a whole. And worst part is these songs are some of the best ever made in india and whenever you see not even once did these songs get mentioned in the list of the best songs, music was awesome, lyrics very sensitive and apt and rendition of course out of this world by the great late Mohammed Rafi saab. in case if you do not believe me please do some research and you will agree with what i have mentioned here.

Khilona was a successful film produced by L V Prasad (who in the year earlier made the hugely successful Jeene Ki Raah). Why was Jeetendra's name missed out? Was it because it was just a special / friendly appearance? We do not know. Only Jeetendra can clarify this. But Jeetendra refused to act with Mumtaz because she was a heroine in B-grade films. But look at the lady - how her fortunes turned just in a matter of a 3-4 years. Until 1968, she was only a supporting actress. But from 1969 till 1976, she was a top actress. Khilona is one of the films where Mumtaz gets to showcase her talent. She deservedly won the Filmfare Award for this film. The film drags a bit after a point in time. The narrative is hampered by the unnecessary comic interludes between Jagdeep and Malika (Mumtaz's real life sister, who later married Dara Singh's brother Randhawa). Beyond a point, this constant hamming by Jagdeep gets on your nerves. If these scenes had been edited, then the script would have become taut. Songs are good. ":Khilona Jankar Tum to", " Agar Dilbar Ki", and "Khush Rahe Tu Sada" remain immortal.
Alka unfortunately has limited screen presence. Shatrughan Sinha's villainous acting leaves a lot to be desired. Please note that his name is featured alongside the supporting cast. Bipin Gupta, Durga Khote, Ramesh Deo and Chand Usmani lend good support. But Mridula's role as Mumtaz's foster mother is brilliant - the little known actress moves you with her emotions. Jaishree T plays a role that of a sister - she played similar roles in a zillion movies later...Brahm Baradwaj has his moments of charm. Shabnam who almost looks like Tabassum plays Ramesh Deo's (extra-marital) love interest. Any idea where Shabnam is now ? May be we need to ask Tabassum Talkies.
The terrace scenes have been shot in a studio. Jeetendra's cameo is striking but Sanjeev Kumar proves that he can deliver the shots in such a challenging role of a man who loses his mental balance when he sees his lover committing suicide in front of him.
A good film except for the comedy track that slows the pace of an otherwise engaging social drama.
