    Stay: Oct 30 - Nov 7 2021
Check In: We arrived at at approx. 3:30 by Amstar that was included w/ our reservations through Apple Vacations. Royal level has a separate check-in office. We were the only ones & the process took approx. 15 minutes. They did not request to keep a credit card on file. We were given bracelets that served as room keys as well as a card to activate the electricity.
Room: We got to our room, & it was very cool nearly cold, indicating that the A/C is separate than the electricity for the lights & fan. The room is spacious w/ a variety of furniture The bathroom is large. The downside is the door that separates the bathroom from bedroom - it’s not solid, it has slats. While it provides visual privacy, it does not provide audible privacy. The patio also had a table & 2 chairs.
    Restaurants -
Carreta: Royal level exclusive restaurant. No reservations for breakfast & lunch but needed for dinner. While the food here was good to excellent, the service was slow due to their being only 1-2 servers when they are open.
Steakhouse: The lobster was WONDERFUL & lots of it! The carne asada style steak was flavorful & delicious.
Olivos: It’s a beautiful restaurant & the service was phenomenal. The food was great for everything that we ordered - spaghetti w/ bolognesa sauce & pesto fettuccini. Their Olivo Cream soup is to die for. The second time, we had a special champagne for us that night along w/ calzone appetizer & lasagna main course that was not on the normal menu & a flame & fire dessert.
Coral: Seafood restaurant, same location as the lunch buffet. The lobster, again, was excellent! I recommend this restaurant at sunset because once it’s dark, you can’t see anything of the ocean.
Buffet: We were surprised at how well the buffet food was for all three meals & the service was excellent! Breakfast & dinner are done in the main buffet restaurant & lunch is at the restaurant overlooking the water. We only ate at the dinner buffet the first night we were there. It was good & there was a variety of food.
Pizzaria: At 9:30 the breakfast/dinner buffet location becomes the pizza restaurant. They offer 4 different types - Hawaiian, Pepperoni, Three Cheese & Mexican. Pizza is a personal taste. Service was good, our waiter kept us informed how long it would be.
Room service: We ordered coffee & sweet bread every morning. Sometimes it took 20 minutes, sometimes it took 45-60 minutes. One time we ordered a BLT which was good but nothing special & Chicken Caesar Salad which was very good & flavorful.
Beach/Pool Service: We spent time on the beach once. We had a server take our drink order but then never came back w/ drinks. The activity pool bar had long lines & they are a stickler for wearing a mask. Adult pool - he is an all-in-one bartender & server. He’s great at keeping your drinks full. Royal level Jacuzzi pool - we never stayed at this pool but I did see pool side service provided.
Housekeeping/Turn down service: Housekeeping was great and attentive. Didn’t know turn down service was available until late when we started getting towel art on our bed.
Check Out: Check out was a breeze. We had a car we were taking to the airport so we didn’t arrange for transportation. Once we were packed, we called & someone was there in a few minutes. If you’ve charged anything to your room, you pay anytime on your last day. Once you are ready to leave, they will cut your bracelets & give you a little slip to provide to the security station at the front. The bellman did help take our luggage to our car.
Beach: the beach area just in front of the activity pool has enough room for lounge chairs & is shaded by palm trees. The beach in front of the lounge chairs has been damaged by the storm. The beach area off the side of the pool is larger w/ no storm damage. There are some loungers, Bali beds & a spot for beach massages during the day (transformed for romantic dinners in the evening)
Entertainment area: they had live music most of the nights we were there. They do allow sellers & their booths to come in every evening. We didn't see them on Sunday. We avoided this area & took one of the other pathways. There is a permanent booth between the activity pool bar & lunch buffet, open all day long & does not harass guests
Animals: there are several BEAUTIFUL iguanas by the adult pool. Coati are common. I saw raccoon late at night getting into the garbage & a very large tarantula crossing the walkway after dark. They sprayed for mosquitoes so there was never an issue w/ little flying bugs.
Diving: We did not use the dive shop on the premises. We did use their pier to get picked up by another company. You just need to let them know who will be picking you up, the name of the boats, & pay $3.50 per person/day.
We will definitely stay here again.

The beach area is nothing like it was in 2009 when I stayed there. A LOT of sand & width has been washed away. VERY SAD to see.
