Such a powerful ending. Would have loved if Mrs. Wilkinson was there at the end to watch him too. If it wasn't for her he may never have even got into dancing. It would have been a nice full circle. Although I suppose it was more powerful to have his father there, showing his complete acceptance and pride for his son.
It was a timing issue, this scene wasn't in the original scrip and after the movie was edited they realized it needed another scene but when they called her she was out of the country working on another movie and couldn't get back. But I agree it would have been better if she was there.
@@hamie58 I`m sorry i do not agree it would have bin nice if she could see it but his father thiks of his wife and how proud and happy she woukd have been
Well, I for one think it would be great if she had been there. I don’t think she’d have missed it for anything other than that hand-in-the-garbage-disposal event earlier in the day. 😟
I am overwhelmed by how Billy's dad rises with emotions as his son reaches his climax of glory and the dad discovers the Peak of genuine fatherhood. It destroyed me with tears. Simply divine
You can just tell his maturity and power from his physique, his prowess from his stance. We somehow know that he hasn’t become a mediocre dancer. And the father’s reaction is just pure excellence.
I love how all the dancers rush out in excitement to look on as Billy comes out for his part and his fathers expression as Billy jumps. Movies like this aren't my thing just kept hearing about it so much so decided to see what all the talk was about and I watched this movie numerous times since. Really good Movie.
Maggie Chau The father had grown up in a culture where it was the man that provided for his family, and did so in a physically challenging way. Thatcher put the miners into poverty and the necessary strike emasculated them. ThE father was struggling with his own self worth and wanted the best for his son but couldn’t see it happening through ballet. His community recognised the shining light of talent born in the stark, painful reality of their lives and helped him escape.
This is an actual performance, not just a bit for the movie. The dancer is Adam Cooper, star performer of Matthew Bourne’s 1997 all male version of Swan Lake, performed by the Royal Ballet in London.
You can almost feel his father losing his breath seeing his son jumped like that. I never get tired of watching this scene. Crying yet again. I love this movie
Bloody fantastic film. I love swan lake. I’ve been to a few “swan lake” ballets but the ending of this, is just magical. The music is so powerful, and the dancing is superb. Watching his father tear up, and gasp when his son makes his appearance, it gets me every time..
I love ballet and I've seen a few different international companies perform it over the years, always blows me away. I saw Billy Elliot live in Sydney twice it was brilliant, and watch the movie once a year and I always cry when the dad nearly breaks the picket line so he can send Billy for lessons.
A father's great sacrifice fully repayed. Extraordinary finale. So emotional and commovating. It teaches us the lesson of what family pride is all about. A perfect example of what Parents love can transmit to you. TIMELESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, try not to cry.... Very Profound.
I watched this movie three times, so charming it is. And every time my breath was taken away by the final scene..Dream came true. Raised in the best classical traditions of Russian Ballet, I find this version of "Swan Lake"amusing and funny, but regardless, Adam Cooper is a true super star , artistic, atletic and masculine at the same time! There is so much dignity and style in him. A gentleman, indeed.
Beautiful end to a brilliant film. I read in one of the comments here that this ending was done at the last minute and Julie Walters was committed elsewhere and couldn't appear. My lovely late mother used to say that Julie should have been there, I used to patiently 'correct' her by saying that her absence shows that nothing in life is EVER perfect. I wish she was still around so I could tell her she was right all along, that the producers wanted Julie in but she couldn't make it ! BTW - the T Rex music somehow fits wonderfully perfectly all through the film.
I love the symmetry in this film. The father emerges from below the earth - urged on by his elder son - up escalator - contrasted with the miners in the lift being transported under the earth. Both son and father are released out of struggle. darkness and pain into light and life. The sheer power of this film monumental.
Qué maravillosa película, la he visto muchas veces y no me canso de mirarla... Es conmovedor cómo el papá trae el llanto a flor de piel y hasta el rudo hermano de Billy no puede ocultar su emoción!
@Anadance No! that's the whole point, it's just perfect the way it is in my opinion, seeing his father's face after all the sacrifice he has made for his son, fullfilling hs dead wifes wishes aswell, it's heartbreakingly wonderful. It's almost as if that performance is just for him and his father and nobody else, it's an absolutely wonderful ending.
One of the best British films ever. The acting is so good. I've tried to find faults in it. But it's hard to find faults when you're sitting crying like a big girl..lol.
His father’s face, that’s the ENTIRE MOVIE THERE!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
The moment Billy's foot leaves the ground and his dad gasps as he sees his son fly... I felt that.
Siempre lloro
Felt it and wanted more
Da Sonja Godefroy .... su questo finale: il padre capisce perchè ha fatto il sacrificio di una Vita in Miniera !!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤
Me too.

Thanks for the explanation. I imagined the character died of lung cancer.
@@FannyDash I, too, disagree. It would have been trite and totally predictable had she been in the audience.
Well, I for one think it would be great if she had been there. I don’t think she’d have missed it for anything other than that hand-in-the-garbage-disposal event earlier in the day. 😟
I cry along with Billy's Dad every time i see this scene. I am a tough bloke also descended from Scottish miners. This is one of my favourite films.
Gah, the dad in tears at the end gets me EVERY TIME.
Me TOO!!!!......Saw this on Broadway and probs cried thru 3/4 of it. This movie is very special to me.
omg me too
That last gasp and reaction of his father gets me every time also.
Makes me cry like a baby, every, single. time 😭❤️
Tears of pride
I am overwhelmed by how Billy's dad rises with emotions as his son reaches his climax of glory and the dad discovers the Peak of genuine fatherhood. It destroyed me with tears. Simply divine
You knew Billy was the best when the other dancers were struggling to get a good view!
And when Billy appears
Well yeah he goes out by himself, he’s clearly the main dancer
Yes! That was a clever touch!
Love how supportive Michael is.
You can just tell his maturity and power from his physique, his prowess from his stance. We somehow know that he hasn’t become a mediocre dancer. And the father’s reaction is just pure excellence.
The absolutely BOSS way he walks to the stage tells me he's probably the star of the show
@@homelesshannah50 not only that, but we can see the power in his character. We somehow know that he owns whatever room he walks into.
Well he’s clearly the lead dancer, everyone also looking at him. The Alpha male!
The deference paid him, the way he comes in aside from the others with the cape on, then enters after the others, it’s obvious he is the star.
He is the protagonist..primo ballerino..étoile!!!❤❤❤
An incredible performance by Gary Lewis throughout the entire film. He deserved a big award for that.
Such a powerful scene, the music and the drama building with every second, it gives me chills every time I see it.
that shot that shifted between billy jumping and the gasp billys dad made before revealing the last leap is poetic cinema.
The moment I see the look that Billy's father has on my own parent's face will be one of the happiest moments of my life.

His father's gasp of pure pride and love is classic!!!!!!!!!
My all time favourite ending. I feel the pride his family have for him.
i don't understand parents who stop their kids from doing what they love. let them blossom

If parents don't love themselves... they won't love their children.
Prove me wrong.
@@-Vitalis- Wise words.
Cause no kid ever destroyed their own life
@Kate 64 Love this comment!
I wish they showed the whole dance

A bit more anyway.
It would of been like an extra two hours
Mathew Bourne’s Swan Lake, you can watch it on RUclips
Yess
Bloody hell....love this movie.....the father's face....makes me cry everytime I see this scene. Jamie Bell....love him.
Billy's dad finds peace with himself as a father. He knows he did the right thing for Billy.
The walk in the darkness of the wings towards the bright lights of the stage and the power of the music gets me every time.
Best ending to a film ever. Maybe one of the best scenes ever in a film.i have watched it dozens of times and it never fails to reduce me to tears.
It's everything together. The dance, pride, tears and the music.
It always makes me cry this part. So beautiful.
oh it's good that I'm not the only one who always cries then!❤
And me! This film has me crying with rage, pity, pride, sadness... and gladness
That makes me cry everytime! 😭😭😭 Seeing his dad finally seeing his son in that wonderful production and how proud of him that he was so fulfilling!

Gary Lewis is so wonderful in this movie - and, yes, the last shot of him with his gasp of surprise and pleasure at seeing Billy is the clincher

I agree the father’s sacrifice is fully paid 2:28 back by his son who has worked hard to become a powerful professional dancer.
Probably one of the most beautiful endings a movie could have.
The best ending ...ever...only have to hear the music....I m in floods...❤❤❤
I love the reverence the other dancers look at Billy with.
I just love his father’s reaction.
Billy sei forte!!!!
Must have watched this a dozen times still gives me chills years later.

Such a brilliant ending, that jump was amazing and his Dad OMG!!!!!

One of the best closing scenes ever!
Always a goosebump moment ❤❤❤
If you remember from the film,at his audition he told them he simply wanted to fly,I think he certainly did that.
gives me goosebumps every time I watch it
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen...and West London production of Billie Elliot was also a smash hit. I loved 'em both.
Ho pianto lacrime di adrenalina ,brividi ,e ricordi prima di entrare in scena e'ynesperienza indescrivibile
Love, Love, Love this movie. The concentration and focus of the swan is impeccable. The tension of the family and friends in the audience is palpable.
That last scene gets me everytime. Love it!!!
Yes, his entry jump was spectacular 🎉
This movie is one of my all time favorites
Un film rempli d'humanisme ! Le Père est fantastique et nous fait passer une montagne d'Emotions 😢 !
Un Tres GRAND 🎥
The last few seconds were so brief yet so lasting.
This last scene changed my life.
Every time he leaves that stage, i can't hold in a little sob and my eyes full up. I'm not crying. Just overwhelmed with the awe and wonder.
I loved this scene. It was fantastic. And the jump is really impressive, needless to say.
It was Frigging EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea why it wasn't a global phenomenon!!
I always hold my breath as Billy leaps as tears roll down my face.....everytime.

Saw this production in Los Angeles with this same dancer.spectacular,bravo.

Dang! That’s an excellent observation!
Just loved this movie when I first saw it yrs ago. It's about having the courage to be yourself. No matter what Da thinks!

Es tan emocionante, el apoyo de su padre para que Billy lograra su sueño... Es hermoso, me encanta!!!!!
Gary Lewis is amazing. His reaction still makes me draw a shaky inhale with him.
Leap was incredible!!!
Billy looked like he had a good strong back for carrying a bags of coal in the last scene 😂

This one of those movies when you wish it would never end...
I love this movie. From beginning to finish. It’s great
Beautiful every single time, takes my breath away
Scena potente...Brividi...✨✨✨
The fantastic Adam Cooper.
One of the greatest final scenes ever!
I've seen the entire movie years and years ago and the only scene i've never forgot is this one. It is more than amazing, it is perfect.
A few scenes I still remember. How about in the gym where he first shows his Dad that he can really dance?
What a scene! We Dancers feel like fighters every time we go on the dancefloor. Be yourself🔥

One of the best British films ever.
The acting is so good. I've tried to find faults in it. But it's hard to find faults when you're sitting crying like a big girl..lol.
Yep, an emotional scene for all the players in the movie ... together for us viewer who were drawn into their world, with all it's challenges.
Right from the point when he says your family is here till it ends.....woww
Still amazing and brings tears to my eyes xx
Same. I'm not going to lie, I got a bit choked up the first time I saw this scene... and I consider myself to be a pretty tough guy! :)
I watch this clip over and over. It’s so powerful
One of my favourite shows! ❤️🇨🇦
This scene gets to me every time!
That was such a good film and that last scene isn't long enough.
Father made a point of sending someone to tell Billy his family was there for him. I'm sure with this motivation Billy flied much higher!
Un film sensationnel du début à la fin.
Cette fin que l'on qualifiera chez nous en français, d'apothéose d'un danseur étoile.
Billy made it clear to Michael that that he was not gay. They are friends.
István Mága
Eh, true, but the best way isn’t by giving a kiss on the cheek
That is an amazing scene, my tears are flowing..
Boy! That's what I call elevation. Marvelous, THIS is what these ling hard years of training are all about.
So much better than the stage production ending.
Truly an awesome ending!
Billy Elliot is a fantastic movie.
Love this scene watched the movie the other night always makes me cry
I love this movie,I still watch it now.
Still makes me cry.
I just remembered we had to watch this in the 5th grade. Such a great movie!!
I tear up EVERYTIME I watch this scene.
Billy Elliot, la película más linda que he visto y la he visto 28 veces.
