I doubt Brad will say anything about it unless it’s part of a pattern of behavior we don’t know about.
This has become part of the contagion of making mountains out of micro-aggressions (I don’t feel it was a disrespectful micro-aggression more importantly). I’m not saying it’s ok to go around putting your hands on people at all! But in the context of this situation……Montgomery wants his message heard…that’s his job. And let’s be honest Marchand is NO pu$$y. He’s hard-core and I think he understands his coach is NOT doing that out of disrespect! They’ll work it out fine I believe. Now if he slapped Marchand across the face? Welllllll…that’s different IMHO
Actually, no better example of this, is Belichick laying into Brady or some other team leader. Frankly, THAT sends more of a message than the coach yelling at some bottom 6 guy on a call up
There might be some frustration with Marchand's lack of production to this point. Mind you, the guy is coming off multiple surgeries. He's also getting older; it was spring of 2011 when he scored 2 goals in game 7 of the finals. That was over 13 years ago. There was no hit or punch or kick on the bench. It was just a tap. If a coach can't tap a player on the shoulder, may as well rename this from National Hockey League, to National Pansy League.
Marchand was already past his youth when they introduced the participation trophy so it’s not going to be an issue , if he was a bit younger then he may have needed a short stay in a padded room and the Jacob’s would have had to call in a therapy dog or two
I believe Monty was justified. A "Tap", just to remind him that he is the Captain and that he needs to lead by example. Stop, making bad decisions. So, let's go Bruins!
Short term thinking led tp Cassidy being fired. Debrusk and Krecji are now gone, and we are left with Montgomery who gets whipped every playoff and only managed to squeak out a series win over a worse coach in Queefe. If Sullivan gets fired by Dumbass in PITT then he needs to be scooped up. More likely signing is Quenneville which will drive 1/3 of the fanbase nuts. 😵
I know firsthand Krejci respected hum and had no real issues with him. Would have came back regardless. Now Debrusk not so much. Sullivan is McAvoy’s father in law
I think this is all about effort and attitude. Marchand is the team captain, he is the bridge between the players and the coaching staff. The play of the team to say the least has been lackluster. No fire and sloppy. That is not Bruins hockey, and yes ultimately it is the coache's responsibility to make sure the team is ready to play, but the Captain needs to set an example. He needs to play with fire and not make stupid mistakes and dumb penalties. So, I think Jim Montgomery was expressing his frustration, by letting Marchand know he was not happy with his or the team's effort.
This is men’s league for guys making more salary in one season than we will make in our life - and I was also expected to perform to my ability. Tapping on the shoulder is not the same as an office setting. Hockey is physical, period. If this becomes an issue in any way by the NHL I may as well switch to professional basket weaving. Marchi is not going to make this an issue - no way. Go Bruins!
I have no issue with Montgomery calling out Marchand for his crappy play but that said.....this guy is a horrible coach and needs to go before the season gets away from the B's. He's lost the team.
I’m not defending him as I feel they should have never fired Butch but the coach can only work with the lineup the GM gives him. Who the roster is the coach has no say. They do decide who plays and where out of those players
@@bruinsdiehards I agree that they should have never gotten rid of Bruce Cassidy. Montgomery messes with the lines way too much. As soon as the line starts to gel he changes them up. He did it so much last year and it showed. He's just not a good coach IMO.
He should have waited until they went to the dressing room. Did he think Marchand didn't know he made a mistake? If you criticize the captain the only one left is you. Marchand deserves respect, something Monty apparently doesn't have yet. I want to see Monty screamed at every time he screws up.
I don't know anyone who was glad Cassidy was fired. I didn't care for Monty the first season. He seemed like a soft coach who inherited a strong team. He rode out the success of his first year with the bruins until the playoffs and when they needed a strong coach The team crapped themselves. I like that he is getting hard on these guys and calling out these key guys. That tap/shove was purely to make the point he has to wake up.
Well I’m glad someone hasna different experiences regarding Cassidy. I have seen a lot of the other side of it because is supposedly “too hard” on players
He’ll hold himself accountable and definitely talk back. Bradley Kevin March will stay the same that’s why we love him and trust him to lead the way. It’s normal to give sh!t with anger and frustration he won’t mind he’s seen everything (World Cup GWG/Stanley cup etc) but tap/tug was unnecessary and hurt all the players. Now the boys know if Monty can do that to Captain March, he can do that to them too. Really damaged their pride playing for you coach. #montygotstogo
From what I've seen of the Bruins at the start of this season, their problem stems from a lazy coach, and his squad is representing his actions or inactions. The Bruins were not prepared to start the season, and that's on the coaching staff. I watched them in the preseason, and you could tell the team was not ready to enter the season. And with Swayman holding out, they are lucky to have as many points as they do now. Swayman also needs to start earning his money and prove he is worth the 8+ million. It's time for the coaching staff to get their act together and stop blaming the team and Marchand for their failures. Yes, Marchand made a mistake, but the game didn't have to go to overtime if the team was ready to play from the puck drop at the start of the season.
Well I agree with some I do think the top six needs to play better. The undisciplined penalties and careless giveaways need to stop. Swayman at least showed up last game. The coaching staff does need to get their act together but that is just my opinion
That was a “wake the hell up” tap. He was holding a player accountable and it happens to be the Captain of the team. And like it or not, the Captain needs to be held to the same standard as every other player. I don’t think there was any malicious intent and I see coaches getting animated and yelling all the time. If I’m Monty, I’m definitely frustrated with how the team is playing at this point. The penalties are atrocious and yes, at times it seems that effort isn’t there. When I was coaching we told the players to watch the game from the stands, not on the ice. I doubt anything will come from this and I agree your point about Bruce Cassidy. As a fan I’d ask other fans to make up their minds. Do you want tough coaching or not? I was happy for him when he won the cup right after he was fired. A coach can only do so much and there comes a point that the players have to do their job as well. The game Tuesday is definitely winnable and I’m looking forward to see how the team reacts.
Bruins Die Hard is by far the best coverage to get your Bruins news. Low Quality is good, but 25-55 minute podcasts are way too long. Thank you for your continued reporting- btw, what is your name?
Cassidy should of stayed but i do like Montgomery and thats what the coach is there for to call them out and the the captain is leader and if hes not changes need to be made
Too many soft people these days, too many cry babies. Marchand is not one of those. He handled it like a pro, like a man. It's also like a Pat's coach BB giving it to Brady he made the lower tier players play harder and smarter by giving it to brady.
That's hockey and has been hockey since I have been watching since 1970s. Please don't make a bigger deal of it than it is. I will sick Don Cherry on you!
I think Monty may have lost the room. He hasn't been able to get the boys to keep their composure against Florida, G2 of the finals last season, was a disgrace and it was the same in the season opener. That's just garbage hockey and no professional team should get sucked in so much by tactics that under 16's would recognise. A coach should always be in control of their emotions, not playing theatrics and shoving players, regardless of their play.
Marchand is trying... Monty is doing great... but, brad will never be a Patrice Bergeron... brad is not offended,, this is played out way too too far.. in time brad will be a great captain...
Brad screwed up and he knows it, monty gave him a wakeup call. I saw nothing wrong with it. If brad had scored a goal monty would have touched him harder then that.
@@bruinsdiehards See he got fired now idiot, that was the start of the problem, it looked bad in public, even I and many fans were disturbed by his high and mighty attitude towards players...he psysho.
Monty sucks. He cuddles and relies on his "veterans" far too much. He keeps misusing young talent and keeps them on such a short leash that it's impossible for them to grow. If he was a decent coach, he would drop Coyle to the third and promote Potras. That and he wouldn't keep putting Morgan Geekie on the second line. The dude is a black hole for offense.
The “team” isn’t playing well overall. And to scream at the Captain doesn’t fix the problem. (IMO) it undermines the Captain. I’ve been in a position of leadership, (not sport related)I have called out the leaders of groups, but in private. Bad move on Monty’s part and a bad look. I don’t think he should be fired for that. However the team isn’t playing well, that’s where Monty’s job could be in jeopardy.
I still cant believe the Bruins blew that game. Utah looked like total shit. That loss actually has me kinda concerned for the season. Monty shouldnt have touched Marchy but at the same time this should be a nothing burger but we live in a soft serve on steroids world now so here we are.

“Why did he pick the captain?”…. Ahhh Marchy tried to dangle through like 3 Utah players which lead to a turnover and a goal that tied the game. LUCKILY, the Bruins video staff saw the scoring play was offside and the goal was recalled, and during the challenge Monty chewed out Marchand. Sounds like you didn’t really see what happened to have an option on this
Why?, because they are playing lousy, that's why. Pasta needs a shakeup too, along with a few more guys. It's about time Monty grew some balls and start calling out guys and holding them accountable for their stupid lazy play.
@@JudyLevesque Nope, Marchy assisted on the Koepke goal earlier and game was 1-0 Bruins lead in the 3rd. Monty’s response was because Marchy’s careless play let Utah back into the game. Maybe check the boxscore if you don’t watch the game to get the timeline right
Terrible play by 63 trying to dangle through 3 players at the blue line. Just awful. I got not problem with Montys reaction. It was a slap on the back like say "lets go!!!"
I'm not a Bruins fan by any stretch of the imagination. My particular disdain is towards Brad "The Rat" Marchand or who I call the hook nosed troll. Montgomery should have known that giving the C to a person like the Rat he was destined for failure. He plays the easy he wants even he wants. At least Patrice Bergereon kept the Rat in check. He was a real captain, a real leader. Marchand thinks only of himself. McAvoy would be a FAR SUPERIOR Captain over the Rat. Leading by example is a fact in sports hence the reason the Bruins don't get far in the playoffs regardless of their record.
Marchy and Pasta are Not leaders. Chara and Bergeron will never be replicated . This team is doomed .No leadership. It all starts at the top. Monty’s job is I. Danger.
@@bruinsdiehards I wanted to further my comment by saying there seems to be a rift between the payers and Monty. He was too passive in his first 2 years as coach. Now he is the mean teacher. The students start to turn away from the lessons. I'm a die hard Bs fan. We are NOT looking good this year.

@@rythmblood27 for me it was the shoulder. If it was the head it would be a different story
Woke you are too much. (Yoda)
Micro aggressions. Man up
Quit that woke language and grow the f up
Actually, no better example of this, is Belichick laying into Brady or some other team leader. Frankly, THAT sends more of a message than the coach yelling at some bottom 6 guy on a call up
@@gregbluefinstudios4658 I agree
This is a complete non-issue. Time to move on.
Man I feel old now
Bruce Cassidy was the best coach the Bruins ever had, end of story.
I agree
If a coach even has to get to this point, then shame on the Captain.
Never thought of it that way
Marchand was already past his youth when they introduced the participation trophy so it’s not going to be an issue , if he was a bit younger then he may have needed a short stay in a padded room and the Jacob’s would have had to call in a therapy dog or two

Yeah I saw no issue with it
Unhinged internet comments? Who would have thought?
Not me lol
Reporters and RUclipsrs need content. That’s why this is a story.
I wish that is how it works but hey it’s the world we live in.
Ever since that sucker punch from Bennet, Marchand has not been the same player.
That was a dirty play
When you make a mistake the coach needs to point it out and try to avoid it happening again.
Agreed
The “tap” was a response to a player who was clearly ignoring his coach. The tap should not be the concern.
It isn’t for me
I think this is all about effort and attitude.
Yeah you’re not wrong the team needs to wake up. Monty needs to also find what motivates these guys
Go Bruins!
Monty is awesome. Relax people.
@@rubber1503 I’m far too relaxed according to my wife
I have no issue with Montgomery calling out Marchand for his crappy play but that said.....this guy is a horrible coach and needs to go before the season gets away from the B's. He's lost the team.
Why is he a horrible coach?
@@bruinsdiehards he makes terrible decisions and has people in the lineup who are not NHL players.
@@JMExplorations all fair criticism
He should have waited until they went to the dressing room. Did he think Marchand didn't know he made a mistake? If you criticize the captain the only one left is you. Marchand deserves respect, something Monty apparently doesn't have yet. I want to see Monty screamed at every time he screws up.
I have zero issue with Monty calling him out. It a part of the game and no one should be above criticism
Will see what the team thinks against Nashville
Good on Montgomery remove the unforced errors just like in tennis and you are much more likely to win.
Not a single coach has yelled at Bergy. A whole league above all players in the NHL.
Well that is because Bergeron is perfect and I won't hear anything else
@@bruinsdiehards Anyways, it is not a good sign when the coach yelles to the captain in full daylight...there can be issues in the back.
@@systhem1381 will see. I didn't see anything wrong with it but that is my opinion
Couldnt agree more

I think Monty may have lost the room. He hasn't been able to get the boys to keep their composure against Florida, G2 of the finals last season, was a disgrace and it was the same in the season opener. That's just garbage hockey and no professional team should get sucked in so much by tactics that under 16's would recognise. A coach should always be in control of their emotions, not playing theatrics and shoving players, regardless of their play.
I don't get the sense he has lost the room but agree everyone should keep their emotions in check. That is also easier said than done
