this is absolutely the best saxophone concerto out there, and to have the living legend otis murphy playing it is amazing and awe inspiring... good upload, sir.
By far the best recording of this concerto. The one with Joe Lulloff is a huge letdown, which a shame because Lulloff is also a fantastic saxophonist. Harvey Pittel's recording has the best accompaniment, courtesy of the outstanding University Of Texas Wind Ensemble, but I've never thought much of him as a performer.
in the beginning at around 1:15 there is altissimo with high g, but it's not too bad since you can use the front fingering for high f# into the g. There might be more in the rest of it, but I'm not that far yet.
@ 0:35 the theme is different but nonetheless instantly reminded me of this deliberately kitschy theme used in twin peaks.. here it has this incessant Nyman / Glass sense of pulse and drive which pushes me to the wall with a pathos I prefer to have heard with a different orchestral backdrop and at a later moment in the concerto.. this is the first movement right? wow.. how to top that pathos already heard in the beginning.. playing louder? More notes? There's a reason why you don't start with heavy to digest food in a five course meal offered by a cook of a fancy restaurant who knows what he's doing. @ 6:08 baby elephant walk? As far as pure saxophone playing is concerned, there are things I enjoy here; this guy obviously has great technique and great projection of sound.
Otis Murphy is a beautiful player and beautiful human being. Such amazing control and expression.
otis is beautiful. that is all
RIP David Maslanka. You shall be missed

David Maslanka, I love you
I would like the 9 people who disliked this to step up and explain yourselves.

Diamonds are forever.

I wish trumpet concertos could be this beautiful.

Can anyone who has played this or knows the score tell me if there is altissimo in this piece?
awkwardbarry Altissimo G in the beginning. I want the rest of the sheet music :'( I've only been able to play the first page of this beautiful song.
There is some altissimo in the first mvt, there is also a decent amount throughout the other movements
There is a metric shitload of altissimo in Movements 3 and 4.
@@ryangrill7322 great way to put it lol
Why 2 mins of silence at end
Вы играете очень плоским звуком и вас очень мало
