    Hi! Good information!
    Just bought a bmw f25 3.0 with 151.000 miles, unfortunately i have found some minimal amount of particles in the oil filter, barely noticeable, but it’s there. Car has been remapped by the previous owner.
    In your opinion, replacing the bearings with originals would be a good idea, and would sort out the problem?
    Many thanks!!!

    Hello sir. Thanks for the great video. It sounds like your theory for spun bearings is the oil pump or the oil pressure check valve. Where is this check valve? Is it part of the oil pump? I am considering changing my pump as well with the timing kit, but do you know if this is necessary or is there some way to check it first? It's really expensive and I am considering maybe to buy the Pierburg pump, instead of original. Any experience or advice please? Thanks!

    Hi,
    I wached your videos about those engines. As I saw you're using oem main bearings by bmw specifications (yelow green white, depend on engine block and crankshat numbers).
    Have you ever used kolbensmidth or some other brand for main bearings? If there is no wear on conrod bearing do I have to change them. Are you changing bolts on conrods and use original or aftermarket bolts? I'm working on my n57 230kw engine and wanted to change everything that could go wrong on this engine.

    At 33:42 i checked the OEM code of one the bearings (11218471805), it was a yellow 55mm. Can you tell me why you took yellow 55mm and not 54,75mm ? I’m confused because a color can have 3 different sizes (55; 54,75; 54,5). Can you tell us according to the color how should we order the correct size ?

    I have a n57d30b (313cv biturbo) that spins 2main bearings. After taking any measures to the crank I found that it was bend, so I think it was the cause of the failure. I found many aftermarket cranks and also there are different references from bmw, I think th n57d30c is better than the a/b versions, what do you think? I found a new block and thinking in put new crank, conrods, pump, crank, oil cooler and some other stuff to make it like new or upgraded if it was possible to find a better crankshaft.

    Let's say I buy an F31 330d with 50-60k km, change oil at every 10k km and at 150k km I ask my service guy to change both chains/3 chain gears/oil pump/conrod bearings/crankshaft bearings how realiable this engine should be?
    The crankshaft itself should be trouble free this way?
    Or am I better by buying a 340i with the B58 engine if I am concerned about reliablity?

    Quite worrying how many N57s are beginning to spin bearings. I know long life service intervals are a contributing factor but is it also due to poor factory build quality and components. Don't hear so much about other makes spinning bearings as much.

    • @Northernerdownsouth
      @Northernerdownsouth 2 года назад +1

      It’s N57 35d that are spinning main bearings, not the 30d. The only real difference is the twin turbo on the 35.d, so perhaps it’s the huge whack of torque so low down, which occurs before oil has circulated fully.

    • @crank3646
      @crank3646  2 года назад

      Hello! I'm aware of this, for few years. The bearings or the brand is not the issue, the issue is the oil pump.

    • @BMWmech
      @BMWmech 2 года назад

      @@crank3646 I came to a different conclusion. I replace the bearings without removing the engine and without removing the crankshaft. Everything is working perfect after that. And I do not change pump. I am sure that the reason for the spun is in the manufacturer. Glyco, BMW/Glyco is shit. And "B" in circle is another shit.
      Think about fact that M57/TU/TU2 do not have this problem. And the main bearings is... not a Glyco or "B"
      So I don't use original high-priced main shit bearings for N57 N47

    • @crank3646
      @crank3646  2 года назад

      @@BMWmech Actually if the bearings were the issue, this engines were not going to last even 20k km. In real world, the bearings, should never have contact with the crankshaft journals. If this happens, this means that there is some issue with the oil supply system (except some extreme cases with drag cars). What do you think is the issue with the bearings? They are not the proper sizing, the clearance is out of spec, the material is bad? If you think that the aftermarket brands or OEM ones are going to last even 10 secs with journal contact, you are going to be disappointed. I have seen not once N57 engines with failed bearings from different aftermarket brands, so I highly doubt this is the issue. I'm going with OEM ones, because they are giving the best chance to have even clearance along the whole journal. Still I think the issue is oil starvation caused by oil pressure valve.

    • @BMWmech
      @BMWmech 2 года назад

      @@crank3646 The material is bad. I have seen several motors with worn bearings. At various stages of wear. The material does not wear out. Pieces come off the material.
      And if the cause is the pump, then why don't the connecting rod bearings wear out? They are also more loaded.

    • @crank3646
      @crank3646  2 года назад

      @@BMWmech In my experience the wear looks pretty normal as on any engine, without any pieces coming out of the bearings (like in the video, the wear looks pretty casual). Maybe is possible to have this cases, but its relatively rare. Actually I have one more video with spun out bearings on this engine, and there you can see that the conrod bearings are weared too. I don't mean wear out from the metal particles in the oil, just normal wear as on the main bearings. But still ofc everything comes to the oil gallery design. Some engines tend to have better oiling to the main bearings (M50/M52/M54) some on the conrod bearings
