9 times out of 10 I'm eventually disappointed by the thing I was most obsessed with. Of course realizing that hasn't changed my behavior a single bit. LOL
You described exactly what every one of us gun enthusiasts goes through over and over. Then sometimes you actually get the gun you obsessed over. You take it to the range, love every minute of it, then all of a sudden ANOTHER gun takes that place of obsession in your brain. Years later, you look in your safe and say, “I am going to stop buying any guns for a long time. I have so many that I have barely shot, and I am missing out on the pleasure of shooting the guns that I have! Then, something happens, another gun creeps in your brain, and it starts all over again!
A few years ago I was the type of guy that would say a person could never have too many guns. It wasn’t until my collection got bigger, that I realized it’s better for me to focus on one particular firearm and get proficient with it than have ten different pistols that get cycled through at the range, all with different trigger pulls and such. As of lately I’ve been focusing on one carry pistol, one home defense pistol, and one rifle. The rest sits in the safe and I’ve become a lot more comfortable and a better marksman this way. It’s cool to show up to the range with 20 different guns, but the guy next to you that’s been pulling the same trigger for the last ten years might have an advantage.
I've wanted a Beretta 92 for a while since I had an M9 in the Army. I was perusing the ammo selection at my local gun shop about a month ago and saw a circa-1980s model Taurus PT92 in stainless for $280... so far its been flawless and its kept me off the Beretta/Langdon Tactical website, haha
I have the Beretta 92X Performance, an older 92FS, the new 92XI limited, a Langdon tac tuned 92, and also the old Taurus PT99 AT. I love them all… they all feel slightly different when compared to each other. Keep the Taurus if u can. It’s a classic. I also have the Bul Armory SAS TAC ii 5” but it has now been sent off to Nighthawk Customs for several months to get a custom tune.😢😁
Had an old 92fs sitting around and put a Langdon trigger job in a bag kit in it. I did not notice a difference in trigger pull between my dad's Langdon elite LTT trigger job np3 so on so forth. Just saying theres maybe 1/2 lb.difference in the trigger pull between them...

I sent my Shadow 2 SA slide to Nameless Armament. He does a fantastic job for right around $100. The custom fits your optic to your slide. He finishes the cut with a blueing compound and an anti-rust compound before mounting the optic. Now I love this gun even more!

I can't understand what the big hype is over optics on handguns. The main purpose of an optic (or at least I always thought) was, in simple terms, to have a way to sight in on the target (for firearms without any "iron sights" attached). Added optics on handguns just make them a little less concealable, and really, do they actually make them more accurate? What is less accurate about the iron sights? All handguns come equipped with these sights, do they not? I personally believe this is just a way for optics companies to make more money, when really the optics might not make the weapon (speaking of handguns) any more accurate. Just my theory.
You mentioned Optic ready. In my case, I am getting older and my eye sight is not what it used to be. Red Dots have helped me get my shooting proficiency back. It is not a gimmick it helps me to shoot better. The only gun I really lusted after was the H&K P7. I missed out on getting one back in the 80's but finally got one about 12 years ago. Never been disappointed. Fantastic gun. I just have to keep my daughter from stealing it. Great video.

I have both... DWX is a MUCH better put together fire arm than the prodigy. The Prodigy... Optic plate. DIDN'T fit without re machining it... Then the ejector broke and it had to go back for a month and a half. So sending it to CGW isn't the end of the world to get a better optic mount put on it. BUT>>> If there's a question about guns: The answer can ALWAYS be Shadow 2. Period. I have red dots on everything. The DWX is so accurate it's actually a HOOT to shoot. I didn't consider a red dot after i used it. I have a shadow 2 OR... this is for something different for me. My gentleman's gun. I LOVE the DWX. I would choose it as my only 2011 style gun in the collection. But... I am a CZ slut. You should try a czechmate. WOW. Though out of the box I drop the CMORE for 3XL and a LOK grip and Toni furniture treatment all around. With that... The red dot on the DWX became a non issue. I don't want dots on everything it turns out. Thanks for the Vid!
I suffered from that same challenge. About March of this year I have decided that I am going to spend the money on upgrading what I have. I have also decided that if I can not accomplish my goals with what I currently have, then either I adjust my goals to align with what I have or seek a different set of goals to accomplish.
@@rukkit8705 I kind off built it up in my head and when I ended up finally getting to handle one it just didn’t live up to my expectations.personally I like my Cajunized P01 a good bit better. The Shadow 2 is still a great gun but I think I would go ahead and spend the extra 400bucks and get the DWX compact.
Dan, they are too effin expensive. Most expensive gun I have is my Springfield XDs 4.0 in stainless, next is my S&W Victory 22. Then there is my Canik trio, my Taurus G2 and G3. I'm good. I watch my Brother in Law do what you described with his constant rotation of pistols. I don't have money to burn, I got great deals on all of mine before huge price increases when Canik's got real popular.
As a collector , shooter and seldom hunter for 40 years, the one thing i learned over time is , you'll always be chasing what you don't have. If you're lucky you'll be happy with what you've already got.
Nameless Armament, $89.00 for a custom cut for your DWX and they will dovetail a cowitness sight. Another $30.00 and they will Cerakote the pocket. Give me a custom cut slide over a plate system all day, everyday. Add a set of Lok palmswells, a magwell and a gas pedal and you have a 2011 that runs with guns costing twice as much!
OMG! I’m completely obsessing over the CZ Shadow 2 Compact. Day in and day out. BUT, (and there’s always a but) I already own a CZ P-01. I’ve changed out the grip panels with some Made in Michigan LOK G-10 grip panels which greatly improved the aesthetics and the comfort of the gun. Mine has the decocker with I prefer over the safety of the Shadow 2 compact. I need to upgrade the factory sights. But, do I really need to spend another $1300-$1600 on a gun that I basically already own? Ugh. I also want a “2011” badly…but, do I really need a super finicky gun that may let me down if a situation arises? These are some of the things that keep me awake at night. 🥴
In comparison, unless you get the pcr cajunized, the s2c has better take up to the trigger break/ wall (if could call it a wall on the pcr/s2c lol), a crazy light trigger pull in sa, I’d guess about 2 1/2 lbs, and the best factory sights I’ve ever seen. It also weighs more. Has a safety instead of a decocker as well. The safety is mushy though. I’ve found that if you put your finger in to block the hammer from falling, pull the trigger, remove the finger from the trigger, then lower the hammer while removing your finger out of the way the hammer doesn’t drop all the way. I like carrying the pcr better, but I love the s2c at the range.
I'm the same with luxury watches. The obsession reaches points where I sometimes dream about owning a watch and when I wake up I pull the trigger and buy it, no matter the cost. But after a week of wearing the holy grail it becomes just another item in the collection. Worn once or twice a month. At least with watches you can check out the prices online and see that they skyrocketed, giving you a somewhat deeper apprechiation but yeah, it doesn't last too long.
I hear ya Sir! I was a Big Dan Wesson guy for 3 years. I still own (5) 1911 Commander and fullsize 1911 Dan Wesson pistols. Now, I’m good, I think I’m gonna hold onto those Dan Wesson‘s for the next 10 years, but that’s about it. I have no desire to buy any more Dan Wesson, or CZ pistols. Stay safe out there guys. 😎🇺🇸👍
I'll take that new shadow comapct, shadow or bularmory all day. Both eyes open and I can see that dot when you can't see your sights. Ring with dot in the middle easier to aquire too optics are superior. Eps carry, scs and 508t all amazing and comapct too.
On the flip side, I was so regretting my stupid mistake of selling a baby eagle 2 till you introduced me to the CZ Phantom. I thank you in my head for that gun every time I shoot it.
It happens to me I got Staccato c2 take it to the range I loved it and then I realized I don’t like it anymore I sold it just to buy more ammo which is more important so yeah I got some other guns anyway sometimes minimalist is ok too many guns is a problem too
I was an early adopter of optics on pistols I had a red dot sight on my sw 22a1 a long time ago. After dabbling into that I’ve decided basic iron sights for pistols. Never caught the optics ready craze.
This is exactly how I feel about the CZ Shadow 2 Compact. However, I refuse to pay $400-$700 over MSRP so I am waiting patiently. In the meantime, I acquired a Girsan MCP35 PI LW and upgrades for my P365 XL which are treating me well. 😊
@wesmccage Yeah, I sold my MCP35 because of the trigger. I was going to spend $ upgrading it but figured I would prefer to dump $$ on a '2011' platform pistol instead.
I have several guns that aren't optics ready and have started to get used to the dot...an original STI and a Wilson EDX C .. I carry the Wilson in the winter with sweat shirts. I believe as you any gun should now come optics ready most of the Taurus G series is optics ready, I think. Even Glock awakened from their slumber. I too wanted the DWX but no optic a $2000 gun? ???
Interestingly enough, I had my heart set on a shadow 2 until I bought a SAR 2000 and upgraded the trigger... It shoots almost as good as a Shadow 2 and I've spent half the price.
I was looking for a turkey gun. I had my eye on a 410 Tuffy. My local store had a sale so I had to stop by. The Tuffy was only available in black and it was not on sale. 😢 I kept hearing a whistle so I turned around and there it was, an absolutely beautiful Iver Johnson single shot 20 ga. I looked up the serial number and it is 100yrs old. No rust all serial numbers match and no nicks or splits in the forend or stock. I bought it. $70 cheeper than the Tuffy which ment I could get 3 boxes of ammo.
I've had the same issues when I buy a gun that I have researched and waited on for a long time. After I finally get it another pistol comes out that's better than the last pistol I bought. Know I usually wait a while to see if something worthwhile comes out that's completely different. I have the cz shadow 2 with some aftermarket grips I bought for it. It was definitely worth the money. Some of these pistols have so many of the same qualities it seems like you are spinning your wheels trying to keep up with the newest trend. The only time you get something completely different is when you build your own pistol exactly the way you want it. But the wait can take up to a year. A Taran Tactical combat Master package Glock 34 can take 58 weeks . Its not even that expensive. But the wait will kill you.
At one time I really wanted the DWX. I have 2 Dan Wessons and several CZ's. I recently got the CZ Shadow 2 Compact optic ready. Really not that interested in the DWX anymore.
Update today 05/20/2024 DWX compact just arrived at my shop today. Factory optic ready with a 1913 bottom rail for a light $ 2,124.99 out the door. I had not heard anything about these being released it just showed up at the shop this morning. It seems a little chunkier than the original and is about 3oz heavier. Was very surprised to see it as I had not heard any buzz at all about it dropping any time soon
Speaking of dumb guns I thought I had to have a Taurus Public Defender Poly. After I realized how much manufacturers were gouging on .410 ammo I was ready to sell it. Then I started reloading .45 Colt.... putting that 250 grain lead flat nose on it. Then it started to occur to me, by gawd that's a round!
I still love honor and cherish my DWX! I dont need a red dot on my pistol. I to waited forever for it to come out because of the smaller grip size. I did get rid of those ghetto red grips first thing! I can run three mags thru a two inch group at 10yrds. I could never do that with any of my dot set ups. But dots for steel are great. fast target acquisition for sure.
I purchased a CZ Shadow 2 and 6 months later they came out with an optics ready version. I figured I could just get the optics ready slide, but that was 700 dollars without the barrel. Lesson learned. Don’t purchase ANY pistol without an optics ready slide because sooner or later they will come with one.
I got 2 handguns I really want, though I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford to buy them on my social security disability. The first is a S&W 686+ 3inch 357 magnum and the second is a pretty good 1911 45 with a light rail and good sites. Nothing as awesome and as pricy as alot of folks have as their dream handguns list I know, but they are to me. Now I would love to have at least one handgun with a good optic, but I don't see that as possible when the guns themselves are so hard to afford for me. Though I can totally see what you mean since I'm 57 now and I've been wearing thick glasses since I was 7. 🤣 Great video as always! 😎👍
Had lots of handguns. The one that made the most impact was a Glock 17 back in the mid 1980s. Had a 9mm Star Model 30 and .22LR Ruger Standard (5.5" bull barrel) at the time... the G17 was much lighter and faster to shoot than either of them. A minimalist masterpiece that is still my favorite handgun. Two worst handguns (equal worst) was a HK VP70Z that had a super heavy trigger pull... sometimes I would give up and release pressure on the trigger and it would fire... and a HK P7M13 that was so top heavy if felt immensely insecure in any holster and would uncock itself each time I fired it as the grip would smack the base of my thumb and cause an involuntary grip release.
You should have got a Tanfoglio stock lll. They have a great tapered stainless bull barrel with polygonal rifling which is better than the hammer forged barrel of cz and dan wesson
The DWX looks really enticing, but I have my eyes on other things. I totally get it- I've been there myself where I fell, totally head over heels over something, and just had to find a way to get it. Then, as time passed, I came across another deal that suited me better. Btw, I love your analogies.
I wanted a Ruger Mark 4 22lite in 2021 but couldn't find one anywhere......then the Taurus Tx22 competition came out with the 16 round mag....optic ready ....glad the rugers were not available now I got IMO a better gun way cheaper
Trying to get my first double stack 1911. Don’t want to spend Staccato money, can’t find a Bul, Prodigy has too many mixed reviews and now Girsan has one out. Never used Gunbroker but I might just have to. Seems like the Bul is the best for the money.
@@freedomlineman3105 it took me forever. i signed up the day before the NDA broke. still took a month and a half. worth the wait. you won't regret it at all!
To Me; "Expensive" Depends On 10 Things: 1) The Person Buying The Product. 2) How Much The Person Is Willing To Spend On That Item 3) If The Person Can Afford It At The Time. 4) Where It's Made. 5) Who Makes It. 6) What The Product Is Made Out Of. 7) What Features Does The Product Have. 8) What Are The Reviews On The Product. 9) How Durable And Reliable The Product Is. 10) What Does The Item Look Like. To Some People A $600 Gun Is Expensive, But To Others It Is Cheap. To Most People A $3,000 Gun Is Expensive, But To Some People It's Cheap.
Your opening monologue is FAR better than those guys on late night tv. While we are talking humor, if you want to donate the DWX to a worthy person..............I am not in heat for the optic.
For me, I used to be obsessed with the Intratec TEC9 from back in the day, but nowadays I lost interest in the TEC9 because now my favorite obsessed and lovable gun is the FN Minimi, because I love the history behind the FN Minimi, which is the obscure US SAW trials of 1970s involving the XM235, XM106, XM262 obscure candidates, the proposed 6 mm SAW cartridge, and the post adoption PIP program to address the Minimi’s ergonomics. And yes that the FN Minimi is built military tough over the cheap and junky Intratec TEC9.
Ha! You'd be surprised at the hours I've spent chasing aftermarket items for the DWX Compact to use as an IDPA CCP racer. No holsters, no sights, no mag base pads, no grips, etc. All because they aren't selling enough of these. Why? No optics cuts and no optics cut OR a pic rail on the compact they promoting as a carry gun! Duh!!
The DWX is on my "WANT" list. I guess I'm a bit different, but then, I'm not a competition shooter. I have a few handguns with red dots(CZ P10c, FNX45 Tactical, Sig P320 XTEN, Walther PDP), but I haven't bought anything that I thought "NEEDED" milled for a dot. I mean, I get it. I get "The Bug". I like the fact that I can shoot the Shadow 2 with irons VERY well. The Dan Wesson Specialist is a 2011 in 9mm, but I like it with irons. I just can't see being thrown off the DWX because it doesn't come optic ready from the factory. I enjoy your videos. With your voice, you should be in radio or doing podcasts.
Anytime something goes over the G Whiz price point I tend to get alittle nervous. Those prices cross into collecter territory for me. My latest purchase is a commander size Fusion 1911 Riptide in 45acp. If you dont have any fusions give em a try. Great 1911s.
We are gun nuts , it comes with the territory. Mine was the Springfield Emassary, it's a nice gun but it was over the top for me in dress , now I know the Garrison is just right , it's traditional with a modern spin and shoots very well. I'm tired of being in a race to own the latest space gun. Give me a classic and I can make it my own.
Ha ha, you have two guns in your collection that I'm pretty obsessed with. Your high dollar Beretta 92 and your CZ Rami. I could afford them, but I'll probably never get them. I call them my eternal "want" guns.
I’ve been considering a 2011 for some time now but the options for optic ready double stack 9mm 0:01 are few and far between! Girsan has recently released their 1911 with an optic at a great price but not crazy about the Turkish pistols. I’m hoping Rock Island will soon have an offering at a below 1k price!
No argument you’re right I had a Girsan Regard a while back and I was impressed by the quality and reliability. I prefer Rock Island or Springfield for 1911’s tho. Bul Armory looks like an awesome pistol but expensive and tough to come by!
Too funny!! I had the same obsession with the DWX too and when they finally came out, since it didn’t have the optic cut I decided not to buy it. I’m happy with that decision since the reviews I saw, I didn’t see any additional value it would give me over the pistols I already own. Ie…Staccato, Bul SAS II 4.25, Wilson combats etc…. I’m also thinking about getting CZ Shadow 2 Milled for an optic. I was also wanting to get the DEX Compact, but no optic cut nor rail. Really disappointed. I did however buy the the new Sig P226 X-5 Legion and waiting for it to be delivered. That one I think is going to be freak’n awesome!! Thanks TFG.
I went to buy that bul in 4.25 but the one that they have now has lightning cuts in the slide. I want the one you have, not a fan of the open top slide.
9 times out of 10 I'm eventually disappointed by the thing I was most obsessed with. Of course realizing that hasn't changed my behavior a single bit. LOL

I feel the same way, I don't want an optic on everything I have.
I think Hickok said it best. " I got one less gun than i need"
I suffered from that same challenge. About March of this year I have decided that I am going to spend the money on upgrading what I have. I have also decided that if I can not accomplish my goals with what I currently have, then either I adjust my goals to align with what I have or seek a different set of goals to accomplish.
DWX is now available in June 2024 with a slide cut and picatinny light rail from Dan Wesson.
That’s exactly how I felt about the Sig P201 Carry.
I no long have the “gotta buy a new gun” bug. Now I just run what I got. I do love the Trijicon on my FNX-45 Tac though. Daily open carry at its best.
I bought the DWX over the Prodigy, the Prodigy is not reliable. Other than the DWX i would be looking at the Atlas Apollo or Athena.
I feel that way about the Shadow 2 compact. I was so excited for this to be released but once I got my hands on one it was a bit of a letdown
Curious, since I’m thinking of possibly getting a Shadow 2 Compact. Why was it a let down for you?
@@rukkit8705 I kind off built it up in my head and when I ended up finally getting to handle one it just didn’t live up to my expectations.personally I like my Cajunized P01 a good bit better. The Shadow 2 is still a great gun but I think I would go ahead and spend the extra 400bucks and get the DWX compact.
When you get older, your vision gets as finicky as a Hotty. So, i can't shoot now without an optic
I agree, optic ready is almost a necessity nowadays. 🧐
No doubt Leonard crazy
I think your Shadow will serve you just as well, if not better! Have it milled for an optic if you want!
I love my Cz SP01!!!
😂😂 That intro! Cool way to explain this!👍👍
Lol, even though I have a Hellcat, OG 365, and G43, I'm still obsessed with my Kahr CM9.
Too cool Danny. I have those four handguns too
Nameless Armament, $89.00 for a custom cut for your DWX and they will dovetail a cowitness sight. Another $30.00 and they will Cerakote the pocket. Give me a custom cut slide over a plate system all day, everyday. Add a set of Lok palmswells, a magwell and a gas pedal and you have a 2011 that runs with guns costing twice as much!
I looked them up. Still trying to figure out if they are a legit business
I CARRY A 365 XL WITH A HOLOSUN 507 LOVE IT CIRCLE AND DOT HELPS ME FIND THE DOT
I completely understand. Been there with other guns in the past and felt just like you explained
Ya got my wife chuckling overhearing your "get those little kisses". I suspect she knows what your saying!
I'll take that new shadow comapct, shadow or bularmory all day. Both eyes open and I can see that dot when you can't see your sights. Ring with dot in the middle easier to aquire too optics are superior. Eps carry, scs and 508t all amazing and comapct too.
Thanks for the video Dan!! Have a good week Brother & shoot on!!
I have one and it is great, but your points are totally valid
All good points.
This is exactly how I feel about the CZ Shadow 2 Compact. However, I refuse to pay $400-$700 over MSRP so I am waiting patiently. In the meantime, I acquired a Girsan MCP35 PI LW and upgrades for my P365 XL which are treating me well. 😊
Love my Girsan pi lw , just hate the trigger pull and the mushy safety.
???
I understand it all Dan. But I can never get rid of any CZ firearm over a Springfield..
Good to know. It's way over due
@@TheFirearmGuy agreed
Great to hear John! The DWX is pretty amazing!
Great video as always! 😎👍
Thanks William. I hope one day you can get your dream guns
I just got the optic ready DWX compact, with rails.
As always thanks for the video dan!
Hey, man...any news on any new Kahr pistol?
The DWX looks really enticing, but I have my eyes on other things. I totally get it- I've been there myself where I fell, totally head over heels over something, and just had to find a way to get it. Then, as time passed, I came across another deal that suited me better. Btw, I love your analogies.
I wanted a Ruger Mark 4 22lite in 2021 but couldn't find one anywhere......then the Taurus Tx22 competition came out with the 16 round mag....optic ready ....glad the rugers were not available now I got IMO a better gun way cheaper
Im finally at a point where i don't have this problem anymore
I think the DWX looks better without an optic.
I've wanted a Korth revolver for about 15 years, probably won't happen. My ruger gp100 has worn in very nicely so I just appreciate what I got.
Great gun and not a safe queen.
Trying to get my first double stack 1911. Don’t want to spend Staccato money, can’t find a Bul, Prodigy has too many mixed reviews and now Girsan has one out. Never used Gunbroker but I might just have to. Seems like the Bul is the best for the money.
I think the release of the CZ Shadow Compact has shifted my attention from the DWX compact. Optic ready and much cheaper.
I have a full size DWX and the Shadow 2 Compact (and full size)... Get the Shadow... Love the shadow.
@@rodanone4895 Definitely want the Shadow compact but haven’t been able to find one locally yet.
@@freedomlineman3105 it took me forever. i signed up the day before the NDA broke. still took a month and a half. worth the wait. you won't regret it at all!
Sometimes I let the fire burn down and find that I no longer have the burning desire for what I thought I really wanted. I feel your pain.
Hotties and handguns (and rifles and shotguns) were always my weaknesses, Dan. How did you know?!?!
To Me; "Expensive" Depends On 10 Things:
1) The Person Buying The Product.
2) How Much The Person Is Willing To Spend On That Item
3) If The Person Can Afford It At The Time.
Points well made bro. I like the way you thought that out
Your opening monologue is FAR better than those guys on late night tv. While we are talking humor, if you want to donate the DWX to a worthy person..............I am not in heat for the optic.
At least you're honest about buyers remorse. It's like tale of the g19. Everyone always comes back
Eew
I would be happy with either of the ones you have.
I go through these same emotions every time I put my hands on a shadow 2. Lol
yeah I've had those thoughts about whether to modify or buy
I have sadly had this obsession with many of my guns....Totally can relate to you Dan!!😊
Thanks Leonard. One thing I hate is buyers remorse
I'm obsessing over a xd9 subcompact rn even though I have the security 9 compact pro and a g26
Love it Wayne! Great points
@@TheFirearmGuy Dig the channel 🤜🤛
😂 I am dying for a couple of KEL-TECs, so there you have it.
Hmmmm.......for me it was the CZ Rami and the BUL Armory SAS II Ultralight. I finally found a Rami a month ago. Just found a BUL SAS.......🤓
Dang it Dan, my old lady heard you talking and didn't care for your comparison (I loved it though), so now she won't let me listen to you anymore. 🤣
If you want an optic just send it to get the slide cut, I don't understand what's the problem.
Dude! Turkish guns are built well and every one I’ve had performed flawlessly
No argument you’re right I had a Girsan Regard a while back and I was impressed by the quality and reliability. I prefer Rock Island or Springfield for 1911’s tho. Bul Armory looks like an awesome pistol but expensive and tough to come by!
Don't cut yourself short... Love my Turk guns...
Do you have one of their 1911’s? If so how is the quality and reliability?
@@Ably1972 yes they are but yea I have an sds 1911 and RIA 1911 in 9mm and I prefer rock island myself too
I’ve never been interested in the Dan Wesson . I was weighing on the WalterPDP then Springfield came out with the Echelon so I got it instead
Great pistol - Echelon
Damn Dan you could just get the dagger with threaded barrel and optic ready and carry cuts $390 also takes multiple brands mags
Idea: skip the idiotic optic and go with a gun that isn't made from cast and injection molded parts.
The only thing I'm obsessed about is owning more and more guns... I want to own 4 of each that I currently own or any future one.
