What Eris is doing is simple, accoding to the sword logic, Eris is stronger than Oryx. The manner in which she attained godhood was by taking it, meaning she is not burdened by the same weaknesses Xivu is, and finally, her domain, vengence. In declaring herself the godess of vengence, Eris has given herself a similar dynamo that Xivu has. Xivu's own desire to avenge Oryx now feeds Eris. Every death done in the pursuit of vengence feeds her power. Just as every act of war feeds Xivu Arath.
We're not just fighting fire with fire, we're fighting fire with a nuclear bomb.

@@Thatdude_2002Indeed. And, according to the Eris, her actions, and the lengths she’s gone to see the complete extinction of the Hive, Eris won’t be satisfied until every trace of the Hive are erased from the universe. Until the Hive Gods (apart from her possibly), the Worm Gods, and their remaining creator: the Witness, are all dead. I imagine, if Eris does survive this season, she’ll play a big role in helping us hunt down the remaining three Worm Gods. They may lie even beyond Sol. Mara Sov even stated, “without the Worm Gods to replenish their numbers, the Hive would die off in a few generations”. I’m paraphrasing, but, they’d essentially become like a flame, flickering to an ember, then, snuffing out. The Hive, as a flame, take away the fuel that keeps them alive, then they fizzle out from attrition. Just as Oryx once feared.

Immaru sounds surprisingly agitated for us following Savathun's plan. In another dialouge Savathun asks Immaru to be subtle about this whole thing but he's going against her wishes by being 100% transparent. Its almost like he wants us to abort this plan. Maybe the final step involves something Immaru is dreading. Maybe Eris will have to give a final death to Savathun to get powerful enough to challenge Xivu Arath, just like Oryx killed his sisters to challenge Akka.

If you watch the compilation of the Gravemind dialogue on youtube some of it sounds like it could easily come from Oryx as well. Dee Bradley Baker does voice Variks as well, after all. The only thing is why wouldn't he want to be known as the voice for Oryx? That man has serious vocal talent, I don't see why he wouldn't want to be credited for it.

I have a guess at, “what the hell Eris thinks she’s doing”. She’s, as Drifter sometimes says, “playing the long game”. Eris is allowing Xivu and Savathun to think herself is to join them as a replacement for Oryx. But, Eris could very well take Xivu off the board. Permanently. Maybe take the information from Savathun using Deepsight and Strand. Subdue and weaken Savathun, only to keep close watch on the Witch Queen after she possibly flees. Then, kill off Savathun and her brood, hunt down the Worm Gods, after the Witness is dealt with. And then, when the Osmium dynasty has fallen, the Worm Gods and Witness too, the Gaurdibs and Coalition can pick off what remains of the Witness’ dead, dying, or retreating forces, and then, kill whatever is left of the Hive that hasn’t died to their worms. In the end, very few enemies would remain to threaten Sol, and the Hive would be extinct. Of course, that’s just my theory.

No Guardian has taken the Mantle of Oryx the Taken King, as Tolund the Shattered has berated us for not doing so!! Eris might have forged the means, but SHE did not wield the blade!! So, it follows that Eris whatever her title of Hive God of Vengeance, shall not inherit Oryx's throne, not take up his Mantle as Xivu Arath (mistakenly) believes. Whatever game Savathun is playing from beyond the grave, she should remember, that Guardians are just as tricky and unpredictable as the Queen of Deception!!
We tithe, as we must. But we shall keep watch for there might come a time when we have to rescue Eris from herself, lest the Dark Future laid out by Elsie Bray should come to pass. I think too many parameters have changed for that to happen. And after all, this thing with the Hive that we do? Is only to confront Xivu Arath sufficiently that the way to enter the Witness's Portal becomes open to us.

In the final cutscene of The Taken King Eris tells Mara that Mara’s plan to use the Guardian to kill Oryx was a success. I don’t know, I feel like Savathûn is playing a huuuuuuge red herring trick to get us to focus on Eris instead of Mara.

Exactly. I’m glad someone else is paying attention to lore detail. It was the Awoken Queen that stole Oryx’s power. And from new lore this season. Eris still has fealty to Mara Sov. I think Eris will design her own godhood. Just like Mara is doing too. They’re a duo.
_---She has retained her selfhood through far worse than this-and she has _*_patience for eons._*_ Eris will succeed. The Guardians will play their part. When the power in this world is free for the taking, Mara will take it._
_She dances down the blade and steps into his throne world. The Harbingers give her the gate and she takes the step. She is dead, consumed by Oryx: She is dead in his will, his Ascendant Realm. There was no other way inside except this true way._
_Inanna told her minister to beg the gods to save her. Mara has not. _*_Instead, she has enlisted Eris and several million mad dancing Guardians to go knock off the god who killed her._*_ It is, on that level, a very simple bank heist: Get yourself taken into the treasury as treasure, and when the owner dies, break back out with his stuff._

Mara constructed her throne world using wish magic through riven long before the taken king descended on the sol system. As a matter of fact, the reason why her throne is shattered is because oryx went in there, recked up the place, then took Riven. Though Riven tricked Oryx into taking her via a wish, which is what allowed her to retain free will after Oryx's death.

Mara came out on top all things considered, but she did pay dearly for it. Everytime she is resurrected, she has to fight her way out of her own throne world. Not to mention all the awoken lives that were lost to bring her plan to fruition, notably Uldren Sov, who fell to darkness in pursuit of a voice claiming to be his sister. Without her guidance, he was weak, vulnerable, because that is what Mara made him out to be.

I can see this going one of two ways:
    1) Eris defies the Sword Logic by sundering (not surrendering) the Blade tithed to her in front of War, rendering the Logic false by divine act, or
    2) Eris expunges the gathered power as Sacrifice the same way Rasputin sacrificed himself to outmaneuver Xivu Arath, causing Xivu to doubt the Logic, but this time completely and consequently utterly destroy it. This probably kills Eris as Hive, but she has a small throne world now, and probably has some knowledge of how a Hive oversoul works to ensure her survival.
