Leading with the shoulder does not excuse a player from targeting. This is the description from the National Federation of State High Schools. “Targeting is an act of taking aim and initiating contact to an opponent above the shoulders with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulders.” By definition and appearance this hit was targeting. This has been since 2014. It’s illegal and referees have to call it when it happens in order to help players know when they’ve crossed the line.I’ve submitted this film to coaches and officials and all have agreed it is an illegal hit. The game has changed and unless everyone knows and follows the new rules, people are more likely to get hurt.

That was a unnecessary roughness penalty however it was not blindside because the blocker wasn’t coming back towards the ball. It was a dirty hit that should never happen in football a helmet to helmet hit is dirty and can seriously hurt someone. I know because I had a block like that on a special teams play last year and it gave the kid a concussion. And I felt so bad. I’ll pray for you Jordan🙏
