My father moved away and struggled being away from everyone he ever knew and only having his wife and us 3 young kids. He once told my mum when he was nearly out of all hope (coming from a man who has never shed a tear in his life) and ready to give up this song got him through. The toughest years of his life and someone who was never interested in this type of music had just this song to keep him going. This is such a special song to me. Apart from being a masterpiece of music and lyrics, it's a favourite of my darling son's who passed suddenly aged 40 in June of this year. It makes me cry to listen to it, but it also brings me closer to him. And with my musician friends we are going to re-create our own version of it in his honour.
