I'm with you on that one, Jim. When I played cool, complex sounding synths from the 90s like the Wavestation, K5000, etc, there was a part of me that wondered what those synths would have sounded like if they were analog. I think the Polybrute is the answer. I think it's the most important analog synth to come along since the Xpander.
Another absolutely killer set of patches. I also just read your write up and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the hard work you put into all of this. The write up is spot on and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the patches!
I’ll say this again, Jexus is the GOAT synth RUclipsr. Excellent patches and sounds in this video. Thanks for uploading. Also, Healing Crystals at 1:33 kinda has a legowelt vibe to it
Very interesting to read your write up! In my head this thing was a mod-matrix-monster, the polar opposite of the Prologue. It seems they are actually somewhat of cousins? The Polybrute trading some front panel controls for more depth and the very cool expression controls (ribbon, touche, aftertouch). Sounds great in your hands as always!
I was afraid of liking the Polybrute so much that I couldn't resist and purchase it right away because of Jexus' demos of it. Thankfully this video dropped just after there have been some leaks/rumors about a 12-voice version, and I'm kind of happy that I have at least a few months before thinking about it again, :))) Nevertheless, this video proves that a 12-voice, bi-timbral version of this synth is going to be out of this world!!
@@Jexus I hope they address the keyboard issue - hopefully better action, poly AT would be nice. In my opinion, it’s the biggest downside to the synth. Polyphony I don’t mind. 6 is great for most uses especially with a great sounding onboard reverb. I wouldn’t complain about more voices though. If/when the PB MKII is announced, if it’s too much money then I may pick up a used one at a good price of someone trying to unload it for the new one. I have a feeling it’ll be +$4K USD
I wouldn’t hold my breath for the PB12. What we saw in the leak video might have been an early Polybrute prototype that had to be downsized to reach the current $2500 price point. Remember that Arturia doesn’t quite have the pedigree of Sequential or Moog and it’s likely that a 12 voices Polybrute priced between $3000 and $4000 might not have been as successful as a $2500 6 voices Polybrute.
@@HenritheHorse I think you missed my point altogether, given he has the latest firmware, it means he is taking advantage of being able to make the best patches which encompasses newer features in that fw. Stereo Layer mode This new mode allows you to allocate one voice to the left channel and one to the right giving you increased natural width to your patches.
Jexus is a master, and the PolyBrute is an incredible achievement. I think it's the most important analog synth since the Xpander; something I don't say lightly. I hope people don't sleep on this modern and innovative masterpiece.
@@JexusI didn't vibe with the Prologue but I had the Minilogue XD which was cool. I didn't end up needing another 4 voice polysynth though so I eventually sold it, but it was nice. I may get module down the road. For me the best mini synths are the Hydrasynth Explorer and the Minifreak.
Really brings up to the surface lot of what I seem to like about the sound of this synth hidden in other people's demos. A kind of dusty, fragile, decripit sort of character that's actually very pretty. I'd almost describe it as the sound of a really great analogue synth doing it's best impression of a great digital synth trying and failing to copy an analogue synth. Then finding success in failure by sounding ... just a bit special. I feel that the your suggestion of a Polybrute x Minifreak hybrid could become a real thing. They could make beautiful synthetic Polyfreak & Brutefreak children.
Every synth that you have created patches for sounds fantastic! I've got 6 synths that you have made dark patches for. How do I go about purchasing some of your work?
@333_Tarot VCO 2 -> VCF 1 modulates the steiner-parker filter. VCO 2 is the only oscillator with a sub. The sub used in crossfade mode, you can dial in a crackling effect for the filter since noise is limited in terms of a modulating a *source. The steiner-parker filter has a unique flavor so it stands out when mixing both filters in Series/Parallel. The sub's crossfade when adding a little bit of the normal waveform (saw, etc) to make the big sine wave have a fuzziness to it. Most of the knobs are variable so the matrix comes in handy to fine tuning or moving all of this around. Plus modulating Noise Color with envelopes, done right you can make a breathe emulation like on a flute or a bow rubbing on strings. Arturia just about made a physical modeling analog synth (wave folding on OSC 1 can get some great cylinder/resonance tones). Everyone is focusing on traditional analog sounds and overlooking some really great features. /end rant. :)
@@JexusActually, it's both. A six-voice bitimbral synth that sounds like an accordion on steroids and costs 2500 euros is not something I would consider a great synth. Nevertheless, in your hands it can transform and pose as something valuable. So, what we have here that really counts is the artist and not the instrument itself.
@@CaptainWampumIf it slaps, that means you too are a great artist when editing sounds with it. Imagine what you could do if you had a really great synth, like a Virus or something..

Beautiful sounds. The PolyBrute is the best analog poly of the last 10 - 15 years, imo.
