I’m one of these people that just got back into the hobby. I inherited my collection from my grandpa when he died back in the 90s and never bought anything since then. Fast forward to earlier this year and imagine my surprise when we now have pieces of memorabilia integrated into the cards, refractors, card grading, etc. blew my mind.
When I got back in the hobby in 2020, after being a collector in the 80s and 90s, I was shocked because there wasn’t any upper deck or topps baseball or basketball and other brands like fleer, metal, ultra, etc were gone.
That is awesome. Leave something for your offspring to investigate when you go. I think it's kinda poetic and should be a tradition almost. Makes you delve into a hobby and brings family around to talk about your life and what and why you would like this or that ect. Hobbies are fun. I got into coin collecting because of one of my grandfather's left me some awesome coins. Sorry for the rant it's just a lot of fun. I grew up collecting mtg and Pokemon hahaha so...

For ten years I built every Bowman set. In 2020 I was priced out of doing that. Anyway, I thought I was a Bowman super collector. This guy humbled me, lol. Really cool episode.
Yep bought tons of boxes back in the 90s looking for Patrick roys not very lucky so just started buying singles on ebay cost more but at least i was getting what i wanted.
Adam made a good point i get why guys who have card shops or breakers get stuff graded but a lot of us do it cause we just love sports and the players not to make a lot of money and some of us dont have the money to send a lot of cards in or care too. I love how he explains that breaking cases is a loss leader. Expect to lose 98.6% of the time. Sounds just like me explaining to my wife and in-laws when they go to the casino…you are never, ever going to end up a winner. The casino does not build hotels, restaurants, golf courses, theaters, and the like, on winners. Save your money, and buy the players that you like, and you will end up with a collection you love, and not dozens upon dozens of boxes full of crap.
Great advice for people who prospect. You lose 98.6% of the time. Really cool artwork in the Loupe shop. If I’m in Miami, I will check that place out. Great video footage as always. I like when you guys highlight a local card shop and a collection. I think it’s okay not to purchase a collection every time you make a video. I think you should maybe do episodes on super collectors that have amazing card rooms as well. Good show, nothing but positive vibes for you (Matt and Ty)

Wow! Well, it makes me feel good knowing we were chasing the same people, but I didn't even come close to opening/hitting what he has in his collection! Truly an awesome episode. As for you, I have also been looking to add to my Bobby collection. I loaded up on Wander and I have a few nice Bobby's, but still missing a really nice gem piece for the collection! Thanks for another great episode!
I would definitely support a card shop that sells only hobby boxes. When I see a shop that has everything from Walmart & Target for double, I will not buy anything from them.
Where I live nobody can sell ANY Dwyane Wade stuff. Craziest example I saw was a seller at a show selling a 2003-04 Topps Collection Wade RC. The factory set one, gold foil for $10. Ten dollars and nobody would even look at it. Me included.
I'm here in Portland, Oregon and I have a pretty massive collection of baseball with some basketball. If you're ever in the area and you want to buy a collection let me know✌️❤️
Prospectors looking to make profit don't rip packs they buy singles it's so much cheaper. This dude is a collector not a prospector who just collects Bowman. I guarantee he's spent ten times more than he will admit.
The 1980 Topps Bird/Magic rookie at Loupe didn't look right. The borders were way too thick for an authentic card. I searched the PSA cert number to see that the cert has now been deactivated. Weird that Loupe wouldn't realize the card was mis-slabbed by PSA.

Prospects are so frustrating to collect, especially when they may not even get their call up for 4 or more years from when their 1st bowman comes out. I'll grab a bunch of cheap autos and chase a few of the top guys. Then throughout the season I'll check my boxes of prospects to see how they're doing. Baseball Prospect ratings and draft positions really don't mean much. It's def more so with the prospect rank then draft position tho.
