The word Dukkha doesn't have an exact translation in English. Dukkha is a combination of two words: Du meaning Hard and Kha meaning Face so the first noble truth would mean "Life is Hard to Face" which can be anything universally profound from Suffering, Unsatisfactoriness, Frustrations, Mental Pain, Failing to get what we want, etc. There are nuances to the word Dukkha to simply say it only means suffering is insufficient.
