the biggest issue is that they're trying to pander to children who never grew up with this movie, rather than the people who actually watched Megamind and like it

They are literally trying to pander to the kids whose only exposure to this movie is the meme culture. The problem is, there are no young people running these companies, they're 50-60+ year old men and women who whose only world view is THEIR world view, the "these darn kids!" world view. They don't know what makes these movies so special to people because THEY didn't watch them, their kids did.
The ironic part is my own 7 year old child saw me watching the trailer and said "Is that Megamind? That looks real stupid. Rather watch the original movie"
I don't see how you figure when the movie opens with Megamind speaking to both audiences.
I haven't seen the movie but I figure the issue is no Will Ferrell, none of the OG ppl and maybe a few continuity errors. It really is quite simple.

The problem is that this "sequel" has absolutely nothing to do with the original movie. The characters have all been completely changed, and they're trying to completely rewrite the story and backround of Megamind.
@@blobbertmcblob4888 Well, my point was that if they had gotten the original people, probably none of this would've happened. I'm not sure why anyone expected a Megamind without Will Ferrell to be good. They didn't have any of the original actors, writers, directors.
As for it being a sequel, people keep calling it a sequel, but it's a series now as far as I could see, and I said it probably had a fair few of inconsistencies.

Frrr, and not even season 1 miraculous ladybug (when the budget was higher and at least looked somewhat decent). The models are just so... stiff and rubbery? And the lighting is horrible. It just looks cheap.

@@GreydaCloud you did miss something. there's no copywrite on the word "minion", that was just a lame joke they made in the movie with a separate "minion" entity that was fake, in order to cover for the real life changing of Minion because of Despicable Me... I remember I called my exes kids each "Minion" because of Megamind, but everyone thought it was because of Despicable Me... I hated that
Minion's name change makes no sense at all. He's a character, that is his literally name he was given in universe. It's not like he's a company or brand, so his name being copyrighted and all that doesn't work at all. That's like saying someone can't be named Wendy because that's the name of a fast food chain
Tbf at the start of the first movie when megaminds mother gave him minion, she said “here is your minion” so to me I didn’t mind the change because minion didn’t have a name? But at the same time I’d probably rather they didn’t change it at all cause minion suits him more
@@sodapetsI think the point is more that it’s an absolute horrendous reason for the change. Like, they could have just said “Oh, I don’t want him to feel like my Minion anymore, so his name will be Chum now, cuz he’s my friend!” And that would have been fine, all’s good, and it’s very sweet.
No matter what people’s opinion on the name change is, this food chain copyright thing is total BS, and even for Cartoon logic is makes absolutely no sense. Nintendo doesn’t own the word Mario, Sega doesn’t own Sonic, Sonic doesn’t own Sonic, etc etc.

Megamind is like a completely different character in this one, he's DUMB, insultingly dumb. In the first one he builds and launches into orbit a DEATH RAY! Here he doesn't know that a toaster needs to be plugged in to work. Also, how tf did they rebuild the skyscraper in the middle of the city in 2 days?

The “villains” should’ve been his regular classmates that were his bullies in school teaming up against him because they think he’s too irredeemable to be a hero. This could’ve just been a show there’s no need for a whole movie.

I just rewatched Megamind and got into a heated conversation with my siblings about how it was so good and worked well as a standalone movie that didn't need a sequel. So disappointed to hear they butchered one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces like this.

I know they could have done better with a spinoff series because Dreamworks did do MANY spinoff series that range from good to iconic (at least in my eyes). Heck, Dreamworks did the series and movie combo for The Penguins of Madagascar and both the series and movie were great! This is just a cash grab to ride off of Megamind's internet fame and it just fails.
I used to have a terrible skin condition when i was young, and we had to use a topical medicine that burned really badly- but i remember laying sprawled out on the bed bearing the pain of the medicine with the comfort of megamind on my tv EVERY NIGHT! And i never got tired of it lol
Megamind 2 could have done something like having whatever killed megaminds kind finding out he’s still alive and coming to earth to finish the job and destroying earth in the process and megamind and maybe even metroman have to stop it. ( there could be a redemption arc for Hal by helping and learning from his actions, but I feel like this would ruin the arc from the first movie.) That would be awesome as all hell.
The only true sequel of Megamind is The Button of Doom.

Some years back I had a dream about a Megamind sequel. Megamind got bored as a hero when he didn't have an ongoing antagonist to fight with, so Roxanne adopted a villain identity to challenge him. He felt betrayed when he found out it was her (ironic). Meanwhile Roxanne lamented that it always rained on her birthday, and Megamind being extra developed a weather machine (which went wrong and put the entire city in danger). Woke up before either storyline could properly resolve. But that was still better than the actual sequel, and I literally made it up in my sleep.
The most interesting part about the Netflix comparison is that the animation looks similar to the spin-off shows they would release on Netflix when it comes to the animation… except the shows on there felt like they belonged under the DreamWorks brand and the writing on all of them was at least decent.
I will treat this atrocity like I treated the Star Wars sequels. It's a spin-off, not canon. 😁
I know this isn't saying much but I usually thought Rogue One and The Bad Batch were way more enjoyable to watch than those Star Wars sequels lol.

honestly this was a missed opportunity to explore a bit more how Megamind would fit into his new role as an antihero. They could’ve done something with the villain, like giving them a backstory similar to Megamind’s. I know the trope where a character’s parents end up not actually being dead in the sequel is a bit overused, but maybe they could’ve used that too.

There were so many ways they could have played off some of the plot holes/things that make ZERO sense.
For example, the Doom Syndicate. Why not explain it as a teenage phase/club he made when he was finally out on his own? Realistically, he would be at a vulnerable point in his life and desperate for any approval he could get. Maybe he found a group during that time that was also villainous.
Hell, I'm not a writer, and i dont know how to make a script, but that makes so much more sense than "villain school."
Can’t say I agree about looking forward to better Megind movies. Megamind was built from the ground up with the express purpose of being a superhero PARODY that loops around into being an engaging story in its own right. He was NEVER meant to play all the tropes completely straight, that’s just not in his dna. It makes him the very thing he was designed to riff off of. Unless they can somehow come up with an entirely new fun way for him to subvert the genre, I’m perfectly satisfied with the standalone movie we’ve got

I’m all about having a doom syndicate, they already had one from the spin-off games and in early drafts of the first movie. But my god these aren’t even fun trope parodies like the first movie they’re just generic uninspired tropey villains. I bet that 50 randomly selected megamind fans could write a better sequel than whoever was in charge of this because if the original writers really wrote this I need to know what happened for them to produce such garbage.

I have severe ptsd with s*xual stuff, so I'm stuck watching stuff like this. I don't see it as weird being old and still watching kids movies because that's the majority of what I have to watch. There's a lot that I want to enjoy that I just can't.
I was so relieved when I heard Dreamworks considers TV shows non-canon for all their shows, like how in the Penguins of Madagascar show King Julien and the other 2 lemurs are in the zoo while in the movies they never were there. The Megamind "sequel" it's just an introduction for the show so yeah, non-canon.

Peacock is NBC, which has the office and Brooklyn 99. NBC realized Netflix makes a lot of money with the office so they made their own streaming service. The streaming service honestly sucks in my opinion which has me bummed when peacock was the one releasing the megamind movie.

This Doom Syndicate disaster really reminded me how goated the og movie is, I was also excited to see a human alien hybrid child (hell I’m writing a fanfic about MM and Roxie’s daughter) all in all, we should forget this ever happened. Also to any aspiring writers and artists, if you ever have a moment of self doubt; you can just remember that this dumpster fire exists and you’ll feel better about your work and yourself (honestly you can do this with any kind of bad media as well), instead of a “movie” we should treat this as a good lesson of “what not to do” when writing

I watched Cats Don't Dance 5 times in a row, back to back, the first time I saw it I enjoyed it so much. Definitely understand the hyperfixation rewatch compulsion. I've always had hyperfixation phases with things I love.
My headcannon now for the Megamind universe is that "Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate" and the tv show never existed/never happened.😁 Either that or they were things made IN the universe that Megamind probably watched and was super confused about.

Megamind was one of the movies I missed growing up. I watched it as an adult very recently with my wife, hands down one of my favourite movies.

Keiko is literally the only decent thing about this film now that you mention it. Yeah she's a lil annoying and looks like a generic netflix character, but the ideas of her looking up to Megamind as an influence and even having a past that parallels his aren't actually too bad on paper. It's just that everything else around this sequel and even the series kinda squandered that potential writing-wise.
Had Keiko been refined and they ditched the internet-obsessed attitude (or better yet, introduce her in an actual Megamind 2 with a better-written story), she could've been a pretty solid character that fits in nicely with the main cast.
The fact that they changed Minion's name to Chum is just sad.

I think this is the first time I've seen anyone say anything positive about streamer girl. So I never knew she had that backstory. That actually sounds like a sweet and wholesome way to actually connect her to Megamind's story...

I totally related to you when you said you watched Megamind everyday, I did it with Shrek 1&2 but sort of as a background noise. I now know almost all of the dailouge by heart.
I loved Megamind when it first came out (was the same age as you) and my love has only grown. I was really happy to see memes reviving the original movie but the new movie is something that never should've happened. After watching Wish I thought Dreamworks would only produce good movies and here we are 😭
oh man i tried to watch it but i only got 7 minutes in because megamind and minion were already out of character and then they show roxanne and shes _also_ out of character and i. i couldnt do it. megamind the movie is like a gold bar and megamind doom syndicate is like if someone took a jagged rock off the ground and painted it a gross yellow-green color... and then the rock crumbles apart in your hand.
