"Twenty-two years after the loss of their homeland, the Dutch, Belgians and Luxembourgers in exile continue to build their future far from home, clinging on to the isles of the Caribbean and the shores of Suriname. Against all expectations, however, the new nation has arisen like a Phoenix. The Dutch Navy proudly sails the Caribbean’s waters; ships depart Mauritsstad with cargo bound for export to the markets of South America and the OFN, Philips Electronics continues to push technological development in Nieuw-Eindhoven, and entirely new cities, sparkling jewels of the Kingdom, have been constructed from the ground up. But the political system itself is broken and warped as interest groups and oligarchs hold more and more power over time. In 1962 the Nederlandse Volksbeweging has had a firm grip on Dutch politics since 1947, but the nation is looking forward to the elections of 1963 where for the first time the political giant may stumble…or not.. With her death the new decade has truly begun, as new ideas struggle for power against the status quo. Will the Dutch rise to their lofty promises or will they walk down a much darker path?"
