      something I absolutely hate about the internet is that this is still the case with any animated character. If you google the name of a character from Poppy Playtime, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Teen Titans, etc. there will always be someone's weird fetish porn fanart within the first few results. I'm not sure why google seems to prioritize these images as being the most relevant when you are just looking up the name of the character and nothing else, but obviously children are going to see that when they just want to look at pictures of their favorite cartoon. it's disgusting

    what some bronies did are actually horrifying,
    but i don’t think the weird and creepy people in the fandom can define the whole fandom. i love mlp and im part of the fandom even though im a 17 year old girl, but i love the show because i watched it as a kid and it brings back nostalgia and the show really makes my mood better when i watch it. the fan made animations and stories are also very interesting to me and i can tell how much hard work was put into them. there are some really great people that make mlp related content and i hate that we (normal bronies) are sometimes grouped with the creepy ones. especially when people judge me for liking the show just because of weird things other people that like the show have done.

    I was the target audience (8 year old girl) when I first watched the show. I was only doing it ironically and to hate on it because I was a pretty big tomboy at the time. To my surprise I liked the first episode and watched more until I eventually considered myself a big-time fan. I even dressed up as Rainbow Dash one time for Halloween. I think a part of the reason it became so popular is because despite it being aimed at children it doesn't baby or talk down to them, and the lessons they taught actually had substance to them. Many of my friends also really liked the show because of this and even my current friends who I did not know at the time also said they watched it growing up. I was a part of the fandom and liked the music, fanart, RUclips parodies, ytps, etc. and somehow I don't think I ever stumbled across anything weird. I lost interest in it at about 14 but thankfully I am able to say that it was a very fond part of my childhood.

      I'm not saying to not send reports, but i am saying that most of these pedos get maybe 8 years in jail if police actually DO something. I have rarely ever seen these bastards get sentences in the double digits.
      And a lot of the time police flat out say they can't do anything, the judge is completely inept or the pedo makes some kind of claim that gets them out of trouble.

    I just remember when my sister and I were little--I was in middle school--and we went to see the first Equestria Girls movie in theaters. My sister was wearing a Rainbow Dash hoodie, and when we walked into the theater lobby there was a man in his 30s-ish wearing the exact same hoodie. The audience was as much adult men as it was children and parents.
    There's nothing inherently wrong with liking cartoons no matter what your age, but I just remember the look on my mom's face as *soon* as she saw the man wearing the Rainbow Dash hoodie. It was the look of a mom who had IMMEDIATELY started running scenarios through her head of male strangers trying to lure her daughters into awful situations with their favorite show as the catalyst. And, after the movie, she was sure to remind us of stranger danger, and that just because someone's wearing the same rainbow dash hoodie as us doesn't mean they're safe, and to stay with her.
    The rainbow dash hoodie guy was 99.% not going to try and pull anything, he was just having fun going to the movie, he kept to his own business. There was, again, nothing wrong with him going to the movie or owning a rainbow dash hoodie. But I still think my mom was in the right to be so immediately worried--there is still that 1% chance. If you're an adult, especially a guy but any adult, you need to be careful if you're in fan spaces for media that's also enjoyed by children. Keep your content properly tagged, don't interact with kids beyond common courtesy, they don't know you. And if you're in the same space, especially in person as in a movie theater, understand the concerns of parents and just don't be a weirdo.

I got my whole family to watch it with me over the summer, parents included. Their conclusion was that it was a “kids show with more mature themes”. That is what the fourth generation of My Little Pony was too.
      As it went further along it got a lot worse and fit the mold people had for it, at least in my opinion. But the first few seasons have plots that range from ancient artifacts to rampant chaos Gods. That’s literally half the plot of Gravity Falls. You can’t excuse one while saying the other is “adult content”.
      Also, you’ve never heard of “The Last Airbender”? It’s a show made by Nickelodeon, made for kids, staring a ten-year-old. Yet it’s still used as one of the best examples of good writing by internet reviewers everywhere, to the point I’ve even seen people using it to show what Game of Thrones should have done. It was also the show I had recommended to me more times than any other, even more than Gravity Falls. I know we clearly disagree about TV in general, but do yourself a favor and at least Google it. We were shocked to learn about his past recently; he had mentioned attending conventions and even interviewing some well-known people before, but he never told us anything about him being someone (in)famous in the community. Thankfully, he hasn't been interacting with any minors inappropriately since we met him as far as we know, but other than that he has NOT improved as a person. I think the clearest indicator of that is when he found out that someone in one of his groups was, wouldn't you know it, a pedophile. He did ban the person, but it's _really_ telling that some of his first responses was "I'd lose a good roleplay partner" and "I bet I'd get shit for it if I didn't do something." I'm surprise you didn't do a topic on Lily Orchard. Before the toonkritic incident, Lily was a former friend and editor of Josh Scorcher; their friendship ended after she was fired for secretly editing his scripts without his permission and behind his back. She developed this weird hate obsession of Josh Scorcher for this and did everything she could to bring him down. Lily was in the call with the one of the victims along with Josh and his friends. The group chat consists of plans of how to handle the situation. Lily knew that Toonkritic was one of Josh's friends at the time and decides to befriend the victim and made an 'exposure' of Josh and his friends, weeks prior of them to initiate their plan. Yes, it did help get word out on toonkritic's predatory behavior, but it caused toonkritic to go into hiding before anyone can get information of his location or whereabouts. The victim who became Lily's friend was then emotional/mentally manipulated by her. Lily would convince the victim to draw nsfw arts (one of them being bestiality) and in return would receive large sums of money. At the time, the victim was near the brinks of being homeless and was desperate for any sums of money. Lily even convinces the victim to 'roleplay'/flirt with her as anon asks on her tumblr blog.

    i remember getting bullied relentlessly by older men that it got so bad i had to deactivate my DA acc. I was 11, and the thing that set the bullying off was me creating an Alicorn oc. Since older bronies were obsessed with lore at the time if it wasnt the nsfw. I was an 11 year old with autism trying to develop my creativity in different ways, but was stopped thanks to the bronies. recently ive been trying to come back and watch some of the old episodes and relive my childhood as a 21 year old, now i make silly fanart, my own versions of the ponies, and share my stuff with the world. It is possible to enjoy this franchise without being a nasty fuck.

      yyyyeah there used to be alotta hate on alicorn ocs. tho i wouldnt imagine it was cause of canon least thats never been a reason ive ever heard given for why one would hate on a alicorn. it was usually do to a stereotype of them being poorly or lazily designed marry sues and it eventually just turned into a stigma that if u saw an alicorn oc it was an abomination. unfortunate times those were, fandom def had alotta immature idiots back then, least more than it does now. things are so much more chill now after we died alittle after the 4th season and fell from relevancy. helped us get rid of some of that toxicity and made it easier to avoid, least in my experience.

    it's extremely sad seeing just how many weird and degenerate people, mostly grown men, managed to ruin not only the mlp fandom's reputation but ruin safe spaces for kids online. i genuinely believe that if you asked most people who were fans of mlp when they were kids, they would tell you they had a traumatic experience with mlp online. whether that be weird fans, gorey stuff, nsfw stuff---it just seems so prevalent in the fandom's early years, to an extent i haven't really seen with other animated shows.
    i just recently got back into mlp after years of disinterest, and i can only hope the fandom is a lot better now. it seems the case, with only a loud minority of creeps, but idk. it's always interesting to talk about this stuff.

      Men generally can't keep their dicks and perverted thoughts out of anything. There was a hole in the pavement in my town. A literal hole in some concrete. At least TWO men were arrested in the same month for having 'sex' with the hole in public. A hole in concrete. Obviously not all men are revolting perverts but damn, so many are that it makes them all look bad as a whole. Especially when the others don't call the perverts out.

    You could make this video about any community, because no matter what, horrible people will be in every community. With this, you don't help anyone, just making that one specific community look bad... What you forget here is that sometimes these communities are the only hope for people who just simply can't fit into mainstream society for various, often not malicious reasons.

    they're not all bad people, far from that, but the minority of creeps and actual criminals get much more attention than the normal people.

    • @CJMGalaxy
      @CJMGalaxy Год назад +45

      I think that comparison is apt, especially given that the majority of decent people have a vested interest in defending their communities from the perception from the outside that they're all creeps, so turn a blind eye to the actual creeps among them, therefore making it easier for creeps to operate within the community.

      @@CJMGalaxy You know, I hate to admit it, but I really think you're right. I never understood why these communities didn't crack down harder on their own bad apples, but what you've said makes sense. Depraved creeps do some bad shit, and then outsiders just rail on the entire community, meaning the decent members of the group become more interested in defending themselves than actually admitting that these people are creeps and dealing with the issue.

    • @CJMGalaxy
      @CJMGalaxy Год назад +9

      @@gokuxsephiroth4505 yeah, just my observation as a long time outside obsever of both fandoms. Within the last five or so years the furries have gotten a ton better at dealing with their nazi problem, and attempts have been made to ostracize animal rapists, but it seems to me they still struggle with keeping creeps and zoophiles out - partially because of the somewhat more anonymous nature of fursuits and fursonas. The brony community has dwindled significantly in the past few years, so I think the creeps' access to kids has decreased, but they never really did deal with their creep problem while the fandom was thriving.

    Jenny Nicholson did an autopsy of the Brony fandom that was really insightful and that video had a lot of interesting comments from bronies/former bronies. Most interesting were the guys who were like "we're taught growing up the only way that's appropriate to relate to girly things is if there's a girl/woman we're trying to f***. So if we like something 'girly,' the only way we know how to relate to it in an acceptable way is being treating it sexually." I thought that was pretty spot on. It's ok to like something "girly" if you just think it's cool/cute/fun. But boys who like ponies are mocked and bullied. Creating a "manly" subculture makes it acceptable, but it shouldn't be necessary. It's ok to like things because they're just cute/fun.

      That's just cope apologia. The fact is that young men have enormous sex drive, so anything we take large interest in and construct communities around will soon attain a sexual component. Just as it will also attain a violent component, as young men also possess enourmous death drive. Eros and Thanatos drive men.
