I met Big John when I was 5 years old. My mom was a manager at McDonald’s in Columbus NC. One day while she was working Big John came in for lunch. My mom asked him if he minded waiting around for a little while because i was a huge fan of wrestling and she wanted me to meet him. My mom actually came and got me out of school early so I could meet Big John. This is one of the fondest memories I have of childhood. He was the first famous larger than life celebrities I ever met. He was the nicest man I ever met. He talked to me and took pictures and signed autographs for me. I remember he was driving a white Cadillac and going to a house show in Charlotte NC. And after the show was over believe it or not he actually stopped back by and spoke to my mom and asked how I was. Like I said he was a great guy and is definitely not appreciated as much as the others from that era. But he will always be one of my favorites. I cried when he passed away.

I did this to John as he was walking out . I got within 8 feet of him and was hit with vertigo . The man looked like he was a mile high. I simply got to scared to go any further. Infact I started to back up. He seen this & slightly broke character. He half smiled, reached down, took my pad of paper & pen. He signed it & moved on. I'm telling you. The man was huge!

Thank you for making this video! A lot of people that know me to call me ”Big John Studd” (my name is John and I'm a pretty big guy). I was a fan of Studd. There weren't a lot of people that could make King Kong Bundy look small. I also felt he was an unsung hero of the beginning of the ”big man” era of wrestling. He would have worked great promos against Taker, Big Show or even big Braun Strowman.
@@justafanofnerdculture7602 He grew more insecure in his later years as his body kept breaking down. I would imagine it pained Andre to see these big guys living relatively normal, comfortable lives while he was constantly in pain because he never got the pituitary operation needed to stop his growth.
Always remember Bobby Heenan saying he was too nice for the wrestling business. He was a bit before my time but could always tell he was a big deal without the recognition he deserves. Such a shame he retired at an early age but cancer would get the better of him. He will always be remembered fondly and have his place in the stars R.I.P. Great upload as always WB
I'm 43 now but as a kid Big John Stud had a cool name and he was larger than life! Seeing this big dude with big hair and huge burly beard was awesome! Sad to hear he passed. Rest in love Champ.
You mean "The Giant John Studd". Thanks for this video. I met him backstage at the Columbus Convention Center after I went looking for one of my friends that had been detained by security (falsely blamed for throwing an object). We were around 13 so it was a big deal to us then. He stayed in character and ran us both out and back to our seats. Great memories. Thanks again
The first time I ever saw Big John wrestling was at the 1989 Royal Rumble, where he won it. I was new to watching wrestling and was captivated by the size of the man. I guess that's a pretty cool way to get introduced to Big John, though he was at the tail end of his career. Definitely a favourite of mine.
I came into wrestling during his hiatus, but saw his return and having a blast watching him in action. He could trash talk with the best of them, made the giant act work and put up quite the power show.
The real Giant. Unlike Andre he was a great person and nice to fans. John was one of my favorite old school wrestlers. Him Jesse and Randy. I loved the heels when I was a kid. From all accounts Andre bullied John and took liberties on him in the ring. It’s a shame that John doesn’t get the recognition he truly deserves. It’s up to us the fans to force the WWE to give John the recognition he deserves.
My mum was in the airport in Australia in the late 80’s and he reached over her to get his bag off the carousel. She turned and saw someone she’d described as enormous in size but unmistakable, “it was big john stud.”
BIG JOHN STUDD & KING KONG BUNDY were effing scary, man. As a kid I thought their opponents might get seriously hurt. STUDD & BUNDY should have won the tag championship belts.
Thanks for this! Back in mid '80s WWF, I always felt that any of the fan favorites were in trouble when they were in the ring with Studd and that included both Hogan and Andre. By the way, Studd and Bundy happens to be one of my favorite tag teams. They definitely should've had a run with the tag titles. Studd (and Bundy) should definitely be mentioned more.
Loved the whole Studd, Bundy, Hogan, Andre run it had some of the best matches weather it was the one on ones or the tag team stuff. As a kid I could not wait for Saturday Night's Main Event to see if one or all of them were going to wrestle each other. Studd will always be one of my favorite wrestlers.
Thank you so much for doing this video. Big John was always one of my absolute favorites and I have always said how under rated he truly was. I won't lie, when he won the rumble I marked out so freaking hard lol! You forgot to mention his Hollywood run though. He was in a couple of movies. Also he was not just in the Army, he was in fact decorated with honors from service. Rest in peace Big John Studd. You had a life well lived.
Chad Kerwin well let's face it even though Andre was known as a gentle giant he could still be quite a prick to his fellow wrestlers. He'll just look up Nad News Brown and Andre or even crazier is when Kamala started carrying a handgun everywhere even during matches because of how Andre treated him.
If andre didnt like you you were screwed unless you could beat Andres ass. 2 guys that could legit kicl his ass were harley race and haku. Studd probably could have too if he really wanted to. Studd was a gentle giant though
Excellent video. I am glad that somebody took the time to honor this unsung hero (heel). Big John Studd was one of my favorite wrestlers. I remember seeing him for the first time on AWA with my dad. And then he eventually landed in WWF. I was like no way. I always wanted to see him come to the town to wrestle that was near me, but unfortunately, he was never booked there. He was such an entertainer and never truly seemed to get his deserved credit. When LJN put out the wrestling figures, I remember getting Studd, Hogan, and the Shiek for Christmas. Hogan never won a bout in my matches against Studd. Would of loved to see him against some of the other big guys, but unfortunately he became ill and could not continue anymore along with the other issues within the company. Would of like to see him in WCW just to enjoy a little bit more time watching his matches. Thank you for the memories Studd. You are a true legend in my eyes by preforming your roles so well and captivating my attention while you wrestled.

Every mornin' at the ring you could see him arrive He stood six-foot-six and weighed two-forty-five Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to big John… Big John Studd
I am a big fan! Can I recommend a few for the future. Tito Santana, Adrian Adonis, Greg The Hammer Valentine, Honkey Tonk Man, Koco Beware, Billy Jack Haynes, Demolition, King Harley Race, Haku, Don Maroco. I was a huge fan in the upper 70's to the upper 80's. Things changed in the mid 90's. I do like to watch the matches back in the older days. Reminds me of my childhood. Thank you!
Big John Studd should have been WWF worls champion. He could've broke Hogan in half if he wanted to. Big John was always one of my favorites; as a lad I had three LJN action figures of him, one painted in mint condition for the shelf. I finally got some title belts from other sets & always had a belt on his shoulder. I always used Lynard Skynard's "Give me back my Bullets" as his intro song and made him in Create-a-wrestler in to be included in every game. Thanks for making this video on the great Big John Studd. May he rest in Valhalla with the Vikings.

I really feel my persistance might have paid off to get this vid made. Awesome that you listen to the fans... WRESTLING BIOS RULES...number 1 content maker on RUclips.... PERIOD
Some of literally my first memories in life in the early 80s, I remember having these rubber doll action figures of hulk Hogan, Andre the giant and big John studd.don't ask me why but when I hear the name big John studd that is the first thing that comes to mind for me.
I had those too. Men I wore those figures out. I lived in a farm and did extra chores to get money to buy those. I had the Ring and a ton of figures. I always had Hogan get beat when I played. I had both Andre figures, long and short hair. John, Bundy, Jesse and Savage were my guys back then. That was a great time to be a kid!
I explicitly remember having one of those rubber dolls of George The Animal Steel with the green tongue. And when the color rubs off the clothing and boots you can see the skin tone 😂
I appreciate this look at John. The Hulkamania era was during my childhood so I remember it well. To be honest John always seemed quite dull. He was big but there really wasn't any "wow" or "it" factor with him. I was never in to him as a wrestler. But now that I'm older I am open to appreciating guys like him for who they are. Thanks for the opportunity to do so with him!
Andre was a terrible alcoholic for years. That probably played into his behavior. Andre lived a few miles from where I grew up and he was a very private person when he was off the road. I can’t say that I blame him.
I remember seeing Big John and Andre at a live event in the early 80's. I was really young so there more than giants. He scared the hell out of me lol, though I'm sure if I met him in person I'd have different thoughts.
WM1 & 2 happened when I was 10 & 11. I bought ALL IN to the angles and heat leading up to them. What a great time for wrestling. Great video. I just subscribed. Studd was a legit badass. I learned a lot and remembered a lot. Thank You!
This channel is so amazing with so much love and respect for these Legends. I went from not caring at all about BJS to now having a great understanding and respect for his legacy thanks to this video.
One of my favorite heels as a kid. Hogan said Andre did not like Stud. He said Stud went over all three ropes on his ring entrance which was Andreas thing first.
This is true as far as I have heard on multiple wresting shoots...Andre didnt feel that John was a true giant so he took it as a sign of disrespect that John would step over the third rope...I believe I remember it from the Bobby Heenan shoot I watched as well as the Hogan one
I was working out at a gym in the early 80's and a taxi pulled up and out cam Big John making the taxi look like a clown car. He came in and did bench starting with 225 as a warm up. He sipped on a half gallon of orange juice like it was a cup. He had cuts on his forehead and told us stories about his battles in the ring. We got his autograph he was very nice man big man, Big John Stud.
Thank you for doing this. I was a big fan of John. John deserves much more recognition from the WWE for his contributions to the business. He was a great big man and a true legend. RIP John.
Big John would have made a pretty good undertaker at his height and size. That would have been very imposing on the early days when the undertaker actually played the role with the makeup on
Love your videos! Keep 'em coming. One word at 5:55 caught my ear. Just a quirk of pronunciation, I had never heard epe-tome before. e·pit·o·me /əˈpidəmē/ But if there was ever a man who would have been an Epe-Tome it was Big John Stud
Hill Billy Jim in another under appreciated wrestler from that era that deserves a The Career of video, he put a lot of great wrestlers over and was an all around good guy who just wasn't utilized to his full potential and is mostly forgotten today.
Typical of the heels in the old days, the heels were the good guys in real life,I came to like John once I knew his true character outside the ring,R.I.P. big man.
He was a lot of fun, and while I understand the narrator's comments about not being as good as Bobby Heenan on the mic, he still did a good job of holding his own when it came to doing promos. Him and King Kong Bundy were an awesome tag-team; it would have been interesting to see them hold the tag-team championship.

RIP Big John. Thank you for giving the stud the credit he deserves.
Studd* get it right
Thank you for making this video!
I know he was kinda bullied out of the business from Andre but im sure there was more involved. always wanted to see more of Studd.
Indeed, something about him was cool. I was excited for his comeback as a face. It didnt last long, unfortunately.
But Andre just did'nt like him and almost feel threathend by his spot
I'm a Andre fan but, damn he seemed to be really insecure and petty.
@@justafanofnerdculture7602 He grew more insecure in his later years as his body kept breaking down. I would imagine it pained Andre to see these big guys living relatively normal, comfortable lives while he was constantly in pain because he never got the pituitary operation needed to stop his growth.
@@IAmNeomic but Andre is smart
Always remember Bobby Heenan saying he was too nice for the wrestling business. He was a bit before my time but could always tell he was a big deal without the recognition he deserves. Such a shame he retired at an early age but cancer would get the better of him. He will always be remembered fondly and have his place in the stars R.I.P.
Great upload as always WB
THESE ARE THE VIDEOS THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS CHANNEL
Me too
This is why I love this Wrestling channel so much. Because you talk about and give respect to legends like John Studd, that no one else ever does.
as a kid in the 80s he was my favorite ..still remember having his action figure and making him the world champ ...rip john milton
Who the fuc is Milton..try Minton
John Studd was around before I began watching wrestling . Thank you for profiling these forgotten gems.
I'm 43 now but as a kid Big John Stud had a cool name and he was larger than life! Seeing this big dude with big hair and huge burly beard was awesome! Sad to hear he passed. Rest in love Champ.
Yeah back then we had Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy and Psycho Sid for monster heels.
I feel like Strowman is a modern Studd.
I loved his feud with Andre.
Big John Studd was a great underrated talented big man
This was wonderful! Thanks for such a loving tribute to Big John.
Agreed. Andre was a miserable racist drunk.
Real American
@@KQwest98 Your kind of America
I still remember watching Big John Studd & Ken Patera ambush Andre and cut his hair on live TV as a kid! He was Fantastic as a Monster Heel! RIP, BJS.
I remember it was a tag match. Andre had a surprise tag partner. That surprise partner was S.D Jones lol.
How could any wrestling fan not love this channel. The love put into these videos just pours through. Love your work... keep doing them forever.
My mum was in the airport in Australia in the late 80’s and he reached over her to get his bag off the carousel. She turned and saw someone she’d described as enormous in size but unmistakable, “it was big john stud.”
No it probably wasn’t.
@@jakelikeschicken ha!
This and OSW Review are my favorite wrestling channels. Thanks for making quality videos about subjects I care about.
Storied Worlds there’s not many channels to go back in time. So it’s different in a good way.
BIG JOHN STUDD & KING KONG BUNDY were effing scary, man. As a kid I thought their opponents might get seriously hurt. STUDD & BUNDY should have won the tag championship belts.
A larger than life character. An all around fun big man in that ring. So sad that he's gone. Big John Studd will always be remembered by me.
The bumps Ted took from him in that ‘89 Rumble are still insane to me. Amazing performances by both guys at the end there.
And Virgil too...
Always heard Studd was one of the nicest people in the business and a family man. Andre just didn't like him.
@@Go4Bro it depends on Andre
alex kanyima from what I've heard what he was sober a great guy but when he was drunk he was just a complete asshole.
If andre didnt like you you were screwed unless you could beat Andres ass. 2 guys that could legit kicl his ass were harley race and haku. Studd probably could have too if he really wanted to. Studd was a gentle giant though
@Frank Burjan but He is believable
Method man makes a big john stud rap reference:)
I remember that, i also love method man underrated emcee #wutang
What's the reference

I loved Big John Studd as a kid. First Royal Rumble winner. Thanks for making the vid
@Efren Flores you just Mandela affected me.
Always liked Big John ! Imposing ! One of the first videos I had was the British Bulldogs one where the Brits fight Studd and King Kong Bundy . The size difference between Dynamite and Big John is ridiculous!
Every mornin' at the ring you could see him arrive
He stood six-foot-six and weighed two-forty-five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn't give no lip to big John… Big John Studd
More like 6 10
He was taller than 6 foot 6
That’s an old country song, what tf song is it though?
seen him in person in the mid atlantic days he was 6-8 legit same height as bj mulligan
@@danlivni2097it's a song though and in the song he says 6ft 6
I am a big fan! Can I recommend a few for the future. Tito Santana, Adrian Adonis, Greg The Hammer Valentine, Honkey Tonk Man, Koco Beware, Billy Jack Haynes, Demolition, King Harley Race, Haku, Don Maroco. I was a huge fan in the upper 70's to the upper 80's. Things changed in the mid 90's. I do like to watch the matches back in the older days. Reminds me of my childhood.
Thank you!
Underrated! He and King Kong Bundy were the best tag team of all time especially because of the Bobby the brain Heenan element.
ONE OF THE LARGEST LEGENDS IN THIS SPORT.
LONG LIVE BIG JOHN STUDD!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do more videos on Stud! He is criminally underrated for his achievements in the 80’s
Great preformer!!Deserves more mention then he gets,A true legend!!Taken to soon!
Big John Studd did some of the best promos...I wish some had been included here.
As the guy who has been hounding on about you making this video in literally every comments section for months.......THANK YOU man. I really feel my persistance might have paid off to get this vid made. Awesome that you listen to the fans...
WRESTLING BIOS RULES...number 1 content maker on RUclips....
PERIOD
THANK YOU! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!
big john stud and king kong bundy was my favorite tag team for a long time
Some of literally my first memories in life in the early 80s, I remember having these rubber doll action figures of hulk Hogan, Andre the giant and big John studd.don't ask me why but when I hear the name big John studd that is the first thing that comes to mind for me.
I still got the old thick rubber LJN action figure of Big John.
Thanks for the quality content my man. Definitely worth highlighting the little bell!
Oh wow i didn't know John was from Butler Pa I'm about a hour from there so cool rip Big John Studd
I was stoked to learn that...I'm a Butler transplant.
I always feel sorry for the way André the Giant treated him😬
Andre was a terrible alcoholic for years. That probably played into his behavior. Andre lived a few miles from where I grew up and he was a very private person when he was off the road. I can’t say that I blame him.
Great channel to binge watch during the quarantine
One of my all time favorite. I always wanted him to beat Hogan
He got plenty of recognition during his heyday and he was one of the first and BEST monster heels I ever saw as a youngster.
Thank You!
I was about 8 when the first WrestleMania happened and I loved wrestling back then, I bought into all the angles and heat too.
I would love to hear Jim Cornette talk about Big john studd
This channel is so amazing with so much love and respect for these Legends. I went from not caring at all about BJS to now having a great understanding and respect for his legacy thanks to this video.
One of my favorite heels as a kid.
Hogan said Andre did not like Stud. He said Stud went over all three ropes on his ring entrance which was Andreas thing first.
He didn’t? I heard from King Kong Bundy that Andre was indifferent to Studd, he also said Studd kissed Andre’s ass a lot
Big Roasts Tyrone I don’t really believe a lot of what Bundy says though, honestly. He was a huge Hogan kiss ass.
This is true as far as I have heard on multiple wresting shoots...Andre didnt feel that John was a true giant so he took it as a sign of disrespect that John would step over the third rope...I believe I remember it from the Bobby Heenan shoot I watched as well as the Hogan one
Another home run. Between you and vice...youtube has no shortage of great documentaries for classic wrestling fans.
RIP John.
i always thought he looked like kenny rogers
The whole Heenan family run was just gold!
Imagine if he feuded with big guys like Vader sid the undertaker and others my god would that be a sight
Awesome video and Big John Studd was and still is always talked about in my house when we talk about wrestling boom in the 80's
Big John would have made a pretty good undertaker at his height and size. That would have been very imposing on the early days when the undertaker actually played the role with the makeup on
I grew up in the mid 70's and Big John Studd and The Mask Superstar were my favorites
Love your videos! Keep 'em coming. One word at 5:55 caught my ear. Just a quirk of pronunciation, I had never heard epe-tome before.
e·pit·o·me /əˈpidəmē/
But if there was ever a man who would have been an Epe-Tome it was Big John Stud
Eppy tome!
JSH 79 well if that isn’t hyper bowl I don’t know what is.
Just got the big LJN figure of John in the mail today for my son. Nostalgia!
Andre should've thank Big John Studd every day for that haircut!
Andre looked cool with an afro.
Hill Billy Jim in another under appreciated wrestler from that era that deserves a The Career of video, he put a lot of great wrestlers over and was an all around good guy who just wasn't utilized to his full potential and is mostly forgotten today.
He's from my state of Kentucky glad he got an hall of fame induction a few year's ago
John Studd thank you for the wonderful memories 🙏👍
One of the best big men of his era ,much respect ,RIP Big John
Typical of the heels in the old days, the heels were the good guys in real life,I came to like John once I knew his true character outside the ring,R.I.P. big man.
Big John is one of my all time favorites. I always make him in Wrestling Games that he’s not in. He is without a doubt one of the best big men ever.
He seemed like a cool dude and character. It's sad, I don't remember him.
So happy you did something on big John stud…. Love him when he was in mid Atlantic wrestling and later in the WWF
