"It has more ports than all Apple products combined"
*Ain't that the truth?*
Well, depends on what. Sure, a Macbook + Macbook Pro + Macbook Air + iPad Mini + iPad Pro + iPad Air + Apple TV combined have less ports than this motherboard, considering there's USB headers.
That is why on Clover Configurator, Fix USB is a thing because most Apple machines don't have more than 6 USB ports. Thunderbolt doesn't count mind you.
Plus easily runs hackintosh Mojave too
If I could post the Drake meme for Phil's videos:
NO / Q9650
Yes / E5450
I would be interested in the VRM temperatures at stock & when overclocked. Depending on the board's OCing potential, you might be able to save $10-12 or so and get a Xeon E5410 and OC it to 3.0. Just some food for thought. Needless to say, LGA 775 still has some life in it a decade later. Great vid Phil
I didn't measure them, but nothing worth reporting, the finger test was fine :) This CPU is binned and runs on slightly lower voltage than the Q9650, so it's nice and cool. We have 40C days here in Australia at the moment, so with that Intel cooler it did really well. Not into overclocking, I think you know that by now :D
"Not into overclocking"
775 requires an overclock to keep up with even mid to low range discreet graphics cards. Pretty much a requirement for acceptable fps
G41 chipset boards are really not good for overclocking, at least as far as 333 MHz FSB chips like the Xeons and Q8XXX/Q9XXXs are concerned. The chipset usually maxes out at around ~350 MHz FSB, so there's virtually no headroom for overclocking those chips. If you want to overclock a quad core 775 chip, you'll need to get a P- or X-series chipset board, but those will cost at least a couple $10 extra.
Alternatively you could get a cheap Q6700, or the dirt-cheap Q6600, and overclock one of those. They have a base FSB clock of 266, so taking it up to 333 will get you to 3.33 Ghz on the Q6700 or a nice round 3.0 GHz on the Q6600.
@@philscomputerlab I was watching the whole time with my finger over the space bar to pause the video, but you never scrolled down to CPU voltage tab (I'm shocked it said 2.4v was an option for memory), I was hoping to see if the CPU core voltage was also something ridiculous like that.
I know this is probably the worst board in the world for overclocking, but I'd love to get an Intel board that has cheap older CPUs with ludicrous voltage limits so I can practice extreme overclocking (liquid nitrogen) on something cheap (unlike my Ryzen or Threadripper), because my FX board is limited to just 1.7 Vcore (I keep the core below 0c under load 24/7 on phase, I'm severely voltage limited, it hit its limits way too quick). Something cheap where I can get a handful of CPUs for $50 for a weekend of fun would be great. Doesn't' need to be fast (just for practicing and having fun), and I have everything from DDR2/DDR2 ECC/DDR3/DDR4 etc. If you know of something like that, I'd much appreciate it. Cheers Phil!
@Jake Garrett Funny, I'm more interested in underclocking, undervolting, disabling cores, lowering the multiplier :D But good point, I could mention the ranges / limits the next time :D
Please stop enticing me to buy old motherboards.

Hah....
Still running on a Q9550. Works fine for the everyday stuff.
Add a gtx 750 and play everthing
@@caziabraham6287 that's what I plan to do...
i still running with old amd phenom II and Xeon x5420
I have a different variant of the mobo shown in the video and I got a Q9550 xd
same here Q9550 gtx 770 ram 8gb works fine
I have a lot of passion left over for the Socket 775. It is cheap, you can find amazing deals on great motherboards and overclocking on it is just sooo much more fun and challenging than newer platforms.
I want to get my young nephew into building a PC and want to start with something inexpensive. Something like this might be just the ticket.
I used to run a gaming cafe back in the day and these mobos were my go to lol... Works great for games of that time (2015) and emulation
Why are Phil's videos so good?
Because Phil is based af.
such an underrated channel. pleasant camera work, interesting content and charming jokes peppered into every video. love seeing retro parts being talked about. keep it up phil!
Thank you!
Lol this video makes me feel old. I still game on a QX6800 DDR2, ATI X1950pro Dual GPU (rare dual X1950 pros in a single card) platform and my "new" rig is a Phenom II 1075T DDR3, AMD HD7870 (which still plays most newer games I throw at it).
That 3DMark Fire Strike score is pretty impressive, around what I'd expect from a stock i7 920 or 930 and the same GPU but without the added cost of X58.
Pls make cheapest 1155 socket.
agree with this!^
Agreed.
The catch is, any quads on 1155 which is i5 class, is a bit more expensive than 775's quads.
Since some of more modern games simply refuse to boot on dual cores.
@Channel07 that's not always the case. Far Cry 4 and Dragon's Age Inquisition for example. We should expect more title developed in similar manner as of now, since more and more pc build having more cores to work with.
That, and also as a means to compensate the ever more demanding compute power required.
For 1155, it might still be possible to held out on 2 cores, or an i3 class of it. But for 775, I'd reckon we'd need at least a quad to maintain enjoyable experience for modern game title. It might even be necessary to OC 775's quads to keep up with the demand, considering.
@Channel07 Ya, i3 3220/3240 can even run shadow of tomb rider.
I'm surprised by how good this PC performs! Wow!
Please don't be like that other RUclipsrs, this platform is still very usable.
I really like content you are creating, keep it in that way and eventually add something (compatible) to follow the trends like suggesting mATX cases for this type of build, test some cheap USB3 controllers, cheap wireless gamepads that can be used like remote controlers in Windows and so on...
Cheers buddy, keep the good work!
Thanks man! It's about being realistic, sure the very latest and greatest games might not work, especially if you only test FPS and Battle Royal games. But a lot of software is well optimised and runs still perfectly fine. I did work with cases in the past, but they take longer to build, the take up a lot of space as well and so I prefer my little test bench :D
Great video as usual. I love me some 775 as well as phenom II systems. They are still viable setups especially with an SSD. The dual cores are definitely getting long in the tooth, but quads are still going strong at least for a little while longer. Regardless, they’re fun to mess around with.
Yea there is a recent video, unlocking Phenom II X2, and with 2 cores the performance suffers greatly.
I still have this motherboard and pair it with e5450 and i overclock it to 3.56GHz with 8 gb of ram. And it still running great for gaming today.
775 was(is) an awesome ERA in computing, and for that price it is a very nice machine
Whoa, that is some serious idle power consumption... No joke, my Threadripper 1950x and 4x R9 Fury uses around the same 90w idle (neglecting the ~60w water pump, but if they are air cooled, it would just be 90w, the pump runs on a separate power outlet).
60W water pump ruins it LOL
Here in the US, you can get a i5 2400 and a OEM board for that price, one of much higher quality I might add.

@@swag-cc4uc Nice, good value. The board seems to be standard uATX, which is surprising.
Hmm nothing available locally in Australia and US shipping kills this for me.
Gaming on a Dell whoa. Thanks for that info. I have access to some older i5 and i7s and with a standardized mobo, I may have to go this route.
I absolutely love the Vulkan API, it clearly shows the gap between modern consumer hardware and how optimized games "can"" be.
Great vídeo. One test you can do is check if there's any performance loss with pci-ex 1.0 and 2.0.
Hmm, how would you test this?
you can use a pci-ex 2.0 board and put some tape to hide part of pci-ex lanes at graphics card, then will run at 8x, the same speed as 1.0 x16. I don't remember a motherboard where you can reduce the speed of pci-ex at bios, but you can try this.
I have this board ordered from the same source, i paired it with an overclocked q8300 with gtx 760, no regrets :)
I have that exact processor running on a EVGA 780 SLI motherboard, at post it always says "a bios update will unlock more features for this CPU" but I have the latest bios on there. It boots and seems to work fine. Do you think adding the microcode would unlock some hidden performance or maybe if it seems to work fine should I leave well enough alone? I'd be interested to know, nice video Phil!
Also it gets about 400 in Cinebench at 4.3 Ghz so it seems to perform fine, I even played Shadow of the Tomb Raider on it and it only bogged down to about 30 FPS in the big giant south american cities with lots of NPCs. So I think it's fine?
Yes that's exactly what the microcode injection is for! But AFAIK Nvidia chipsets, as well as X38 and X48 I believe might not work with this mod. But I do know that G31, G41 and P35 and P43 work just fine, I've tested those :)
Yea, if it works, I don't think the mod adds performance. Just some features won't show up in CPU-Z I think.
Required for some instruction sets TimmyJoe.
Xeon is a dual socket CPU and have instrucctions to coordinate that but in a BIOS for single socket are not active . That is what the message warns.
For that price is really good, but I think that for a similar price you could buy a cheap H61 motherboard which would give you access to sandy/ivy bridge processors and as that mobo you shown, most of them are xeon capable through a BIOS update, so you maybe could have a better plafform for a very similar price.
This looks like an awesome low cost build. I appreciate your recommendations for the use of Xeon processors and how we can go about obtaining and building these as you have. Any chance you might take this and make a follow up video to show how well it would run emulation such as CEMU + Zelda Breath of the Wild?
The only emulation that I'm a little bit interested in is DOSBox. But not other emulators. I did a video with an Orange Pi, but that was about it.
I build exactly the same pc but with a gtx 750 1gb from aliespres. Great content men I love your videos
Ah yes, the 750. I think we should a video with that one, think for 720p Medium Details it should still be good.
I recomend you a video comparing the best and the worst video card with 1gb of vram in aliespress
In this case will be the gt 610 and the gtx 750
LOL I have both, but the 610 is pretty useless :D
Thats why will be a interesting video
A fantastic video as always! I'm a sucker for socket 775 dispite 1155 being superior and probably a smarter buy even now.
I was impressed as always how a well optimised game engine uses resources. Strange brigade has such a smooth fps graph!
What resource monitor/overlay/fps counter are you using? Is it AMD ReLive or whatever it is called? I'm looking forward to next friday already :)
The standard MSI Afterburner :D
@@philscomputerlab fantastic, thank you!
Hi Phil, nice breakdown of parts and the put together.
Good to see "outdated" components still working fine, my daily driver is a Core2Duo desktop and it runs everything fine, but my most powerful machines are laptops I5 & I7
After watching this i was thinking, of say making a standard machine eg HP8200 I5 2400 base or with GT1030 and use that as a template eg , whatever that performs is say 100, then the test machines are bench marked similarly and then a summary table used against the HP as a index eg if it is overall slower rate is 80/90 if faster 100/125 etc
The only drawback is that you have to use the same GPU as a constant, as say a core2duo will perform better with a GTX 550 / 750 / 1050 etc each of these example will see 25% improvements if FPS
Regards
George
Neat idea, but too time consuming / too much work :D
You should check out the X58 Platform, The CPUs are also Cheap and you get 6 Cores for 20€, The More Premium Motherboards are fairly Expensive, but something like the MSI x58 PRO Which i have can be had for 60€ here in germany.
i got The Motherboard, 12gb of ddr3, and a xeon x5660 for 110€ on ebay, you can also use cheaper 2gb modules because you have 6 slots for triple channel memory. if you want to Overclock it, which is totally possible on this MSI board (3.9Ghz and turbo to 4.4Ghz in my case) you should get the Xeon E5640 or the slightly more expensive E5649, which also have a TDP of only 80w. the MSI Board has a So called "Uncore bug" which makes overclocking of the X Series Xeons more difficult. i had my Core2Quad System with a 4Ghz Q9550 before and the Performance Gain you get with those Xeons make a Huge difference in the most games, but it costs just a small bit more to put Everything together. im currently playing games like CS go, Just cause 4, Forza Horizon 4, The crew 2 and Battlefield 5 on it, im Constantly Limited by my R9 290X, so there is even Room for a much more powerful card.
and also, +1 Respect points for the Combined Destruction of apple and consoles in the same sentence ^^
I bought a HP Compaq 6000 pro for 25 Euro's. Lga 775, DDR3 and it comes with a nice case. It's has a weird layout because it's BTX, but a nice machine.
Great videos. One suggestion, for context please put the socket type in the videos name. E.g. LGA775 or socker 775
Yep good enough for me, it runs not only Tomb Raider but the latest one.
Pretty surprising what a Harpertown Xeon and a decent GPU can still do. (Edit I said it was a Yorkfield, my mistake.)
There are 4GB modules of DDR2, yet they're rare and expensive.
Not if you run AMD, around $10-12 for 800MHz 5,5,5 4GB stick on Ebay (high density memory), there's plenty of them
tinyurl.com/y899tpnq
16GB for $40 Samsung memory.
I've had a 1045t (6 core) running 4x4GB for 16GB @ 667 (will only run 800MHz with two sticks) on an AM2+ board. Also ran the same with a Quad core phenom 2 955BE oc'd to 3.6GHz on a Gigabyte MA78GPM-DS2H mATX board (4 phase Vcore VRM).
These memory stick will not work on intel boards though.
Pricey for sodimms though.
4gb sticks are only for amd systems ...
@@tristan6509 Nope. I've got a few Hynix sticks that work with Intel. Got a Core 2 Duo with 16GB (4gb each) of DDR2-800
@@magottyk Yep, the only new 4GB ones you can find are specifically for AMD memory controllers.
Considering the cost of a case and power supply, you might just go for a HP 6300 or 8300 with an i5-3470 on eBay. They also have USB3.
Yup I've covered the HP Elite in multiple videos already :D
Lga775 platforms are still very useful. Other then efficiency and clock speeds it's still a good platform today. I've updated the bios in a Dell Optiplex 745 recently so it supports low end quad cores and full 800mhz 8gb DDR2. Already have the memory installed just waiting on a cpu and gpu. The only thing that stinks is the low end north bridge but being a Dell I expect decent performance out of it anyways.
Nice video. I like how you're including modern games. Can we look forward to that generation of Soundblasters, Sound Core right?
g41 chipset is decent. i use gigabyte g41 with a q9550 and a gtx 750ti. not bad at all bro. nice video.
How frustrating when you have the board already beside you, but it's bloody shorted by a stand off pin.
ohh man This is History 775 good work i like this:)
it is so difficult to switch from 775 quad core to i5 the difference is huge, i just bought an H81 1150 motherboard with DDR3 so i upgrade my pc with the same ram sticks and finally have USB 3.0 but the prices for a descent i5 are forbidden 110+140 Euros they are very expensive
The 1155 is the correct upgrade. Ddr3, usb3 are on-board and even pciex 3 is available with i5 3000 series.
How does the performance differ?
For those that say get a Dell or Lenovo or HP oem with something like a I5-2500....i have one im using with a 750 ti. Good little setup that was cheap. BUT to those wanting to go that route...something to consider....these come with a PROPRIETARY small power supply usually less than 300watts. And the mobo has a CUSTOM connector wiring that comes from that supply. It looks like a normal connector but the wiring is different. So you cant swap out the power supply alot of times to be able to support a beefier GPU. Just something to consider.
Yea the 1050 Ti is pretty much the fastest card for such machines.
Nice work. I'm thinking of picking up a LGA1155 mobo from AliEx.
Phil great video!! Please check about the overclocking. Can you please lower the multiplier and check if the motherboard can handle 400 fsb? Also please can you check the maximum vcore you can choose in the bios? Many thanks!
Not into overclocking and I do not recommend it on such budget boards.
@@philscomputerlab I know, i only wanted kindly for you to check. FSB overclocking has nothing to do with the VRM limitations of the cpu..if the board can handles it;you are OK. Moreover it would be nice to check if 7.5X400 is better than 9X333 and by how much, extracting all the value from the system.
Awesome video thanks!
I love your videos!!
Nice Motherboard for the price. good for a budget gaming PC
Can you test the latest cs go on this? You missed a few games and I’d like to see its performance, Love the concept and the comparison :)
Usb 3.0 or perhaps pci-e expansion card with sata III support. I bought one recently and did a quick test, seems to give some boost compared to sata II on the MB. Since you buy from AliExpress, you can also have a look at some cheap Goldenfir SSD. Maybe there is a reason why it's cheap, but who knows, you might find it good for testing purpose and save some of your budget.
Branded SSDs are so cheap, it's not worth it to get non-branded ones. USB 3.0 controller can be useful. Not sure about SATA III, the main benefit of SSD is zero access time.
You are right. I admit i haven't looked at the prices of the branded ones recently. Now i can buy branded 120G for around 25 to 35euros. My first 120G Kingston SSD i bought mid 2014 for 65euros. Man, how prices change... well, for the better :) .
So, regardless of the sata revision, it is zero access time. I see your point. Thanks for the reply.
I had a look at some other, newer, platforms. For example Haswell boards are cheap, come with USB 3.0, SATA III, but the CPUs are very expensive.
Will keep that in mind, although I'm not looking to build anything right now. It's just that on rare occasions i have done minor upgrades to or built older systems. So it is good to keep myself informed. And i am also curious how older hardware performs nowadays.
Phil throwing some spicy lines at the fruit brand; on a side note I would like to see how older core 2 quads compare to the newer dual-cores for this socket (something like a Q6600 vs the E5800ish line) I think older games benefit more from high clock speeds more than core count but that's just my guess
Well the way I tackle this is, I like using fast dual cores for XP Retro Gaming, but for modern stuff they aren't worth it and choke. 4 Cores are really important for modern stuff.
@@philscomputerlab with this you just confirmed my theory... I guess it's time to oc-tape my c2q to compensate for its low clock speed
When you talk about pricing, please reference the country of the pricing either saying it or note it in the graphic. The only inference that that was US was in the Aliexpress page. That's very confusing for viewers in AU, NZ etc. Other then that good video. Cheers.
I had exactly the same mobo, paired with a Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz and 4GB of RAM (2x2GB 1333MHz) :D
Haswell prices are starting to go down as well.
Nice, just a matter of time.
for around the same money you can get a sandy plattform. wouldn't recommend a 775 anymore.
why no oc at all? at least 10 or 15%.
If I need something faster, just get faster parts :D
@@philscomputerlab, you are leaving free performance on the table, especially when you have a cpu bottleneck.
@@TheSilviu8x I'm not into overclocking, ok?
I got 2 core2duos and 2 core2quads at the office I gotta do something with... or get rid of. I put them up on CraigsList for $20 and nobody even contacted me.
I have the Asus p5g41m-le which is a ddr2 based board, but overall is pretty similar.
Yeah Phils keep up love from Pancevo i also coleck the lot fot pc and motherboards and componets.
Odd to see such statement that 30$ is cheap for 10 years old motherboard that didn't cost that much more when it was new in 2011(found a price of 45$ from price monitoring in 2012)
I'm also having hard time to sell such items even for 10$ with C2D and 4GB ram as more modern computer are so cheap now.
But none the less I'm surprised how long C2D/C2Q has been holding up as there wasn't any chance to game with original Athlon XP back in 2008 with new titles at good speed.
FYI rambling.
Short history of my desktop computers
Started with 286 in 93(3 years old and learned to use DOS for gaming back then) and inherited 486 in 95 from my grandpa(Still have the SB16 from it but rest is history)
In 97 I got Cyrix P166+ with S3 Trio that was replaced with Celeron 600 in 2000 that had Intel I740(that I got for free as it was garbage back then) and it was upgraded to Radeon VE in 2001 that was replaced with 9200 as the VE broke down in 2003.
I build XP 2200+ oc'd to 2800+ in 2003 with 256MB/1.5GB and Radeon 9200 that was replaced with Geforce 6600 DDR2 in 2006 as 9200 died. This was my first computer I build with my own hands and most of my own money and I still have most of it left in storage.
In 2008 upgraded to e2180 @ 3.4GHz, 2/4GB, 8800GT 512MB (500$ is the price in my email from Feb 2008 for these parts) that blew my mind back then and used it till 2011 when I sold it for 200$.
That's when I got my current rig 2500k@4.3GHz with 8/24GB and GTX460 1GB/ 2016 SLI/ 2018 GTX670 that is still going strong.
I forget to highlight the free shipping. Here in Australia, you buy something from eBay and it's usually 10 to 20 just for the postage! So that appeals to me. Sure if you live in a big city and can collect, but then you also got to factor in patrol and time spent.
Well the shipping kills pricing also in Finland and we don't have "big cities" here, place where I live is 12k people and nearest post office is 15km away. At least we don't have same post taxation as Sweden does with incoming Chinese parcels(+20usd) but 24% tax is added at border when total cost is over 25€( 30usd/40aud)
Thanks Phil, still looking for those MINESWEEPER benchmarks however :p
EDIT: To add to my point, I wonder if the Cyrix 6x86 CPU has a hard time with this app versus say CRYSIS.
Mad value there! Just how much are the RX570 running for these days?
Just under $100 used. (in the US)
I got las month an x58 motherboard + x5650 (6core) + 8gb RAM (ECC) for 87€... That combo would outperform by a lot any 771 or 775 CPU
Yea you can always make a bargain, but I use parts that are readily available at set prices.
Hi Phil. Just for info...Have you tried the CPU in the board before the microcode modded BIOS update ?
Those I have used, has posted with the XEON, and could be flashed with this chip in it.
I have only experienced problems with Windows boot and installation(did not start) before the BIOS flash.
Nope, I follow my set process with a supported CPU, then flash the modded BIOS, then swap CPU.
775 was great, but I'm not too sure I'd want a system with no AVX support and an 8GB memory ceiling, even for budget gaming. There are already a handful of games that require AVX.
would be cool if you try to build the cheapest hackintosh with aliexpress parts
The same mobo as me and I too am thinking about getting a quad core
I'm no fan of Intel, but I have to say for a budget system the performance is not bad, but having to get a 2nd CPU to upgrade the BIOS is deal breaker for me.
Great chan with good info. Just subscribed to it. I get a kick out of budget builds and while I am not a gamer i like to play a bit from time to time. I am just wondering how this sort of build would compare to my current budget build. I am running the Pentium G4560 cpu with a 1050ti card. It seems good over the past year I have had it and went with this cpu after all the good reports about the G4560. Would it be worthwhile changing to a modded Xeon and motherboard setup like in your videos? Thanks :)
Good question, I'm not sure as I haven't used a G4560. But we will be looking at some faster stuff in the future, price on the "next model up" are constantly creeping down :)
we love those videos
Sound card? In PCI-E x1?
Seems a strange thing to be adding - haven't used one since onboard sound came in, though my favourite onboard was actually an onboard SBPCI implementation
I need the optical output!
5:04 Everything runs so much better on VULKAN , it is really time for all game developers to leave DX !
Agreed.
@@philscomputerlab if only rockstar would update gta4 to work with vulkan, running the game is a pain in the ass, especially on a crappy system.
Lack of avx will kill it soon unfortunately, and the fact it can't keep 60 fps in close to 100% of titles, I recommend 1366 for the lowest end myself, and even then the price difference between that and Sandy/ivybridge is usually only 20-30$ USD, I've done a 775, 1366, 1155, am3, am4, and 1151 in the last 2 years, and I find that 1366 and 1155 are neck in neck for value with 1155 supporting a few more games since it has avx support, and there are a select few titles that need it, and it's starting to get integrated into drm as well. Anyhow just my take on it.
Yea I'm sure we will check out 1155 again :)
I think 775 is great ( with C2Q). Have 5-6 rigs wirh 775 mobos.
Xeons on 775 are still very relevant for budget gaming
l5408 overclocks to 3.9 and has a base tdp of 40w and it is a quad core cpu
I love to know move the sound blaster card that your use for video ok.
Great video #phils .. waiting for next one
Thanks!
I wouldn't recommend getting a Core 2 Quad pc for gaming in 2018/2019. I think $90 is still a lot of money you spend for a 10 year old system. You don't get USB 3.0, PCI-E 3.0, SATA 3.0, or support for future upgrades. I think you should only build such a system if you already have a Socket 775 based PC and want to upgrade it.
The problem with LGA775 is that compatible CPUs dont even run some modern games. Back when Mafia 3 was just a dismissed flop noone cared, but then BF5, Just Cause 4 and many other titles came, and they just won't run at all on these machines because LGA775 CPUs lack required instruction sets. These unsupported games are not that common, but their number grows and this socket finally reached its end. Had fun with my rigs so far, but now is the time to move.
That was not Shadow of TombRaider that was Rise of The TombRaider
Yea I mixed up the capture files, I did record both!
I would like to know what the overclock limit was for that motherboard and CPU currently I have the plus version of that motherboard with an x5450 and I can't get it past 3.57 GHz RX570 is definitely the best GPU for that tested with a GTX 1050 and the 570 performs much better but the 1050 plays 8K RUclips videos flawlessly
I love this Xeon 😁
please try a non branded ddr3 lga 775, they are not cheap, so they might be promising
No I'm done testing those, the ones I tested are absolute rubbish and not worth the time!
Considering the Core 2 Q6600 was nice free gift given as an upgrade for a socket 775 system not long ago I won't be upgrading the cpu and so I ask what is a video card to pair with this? Do I get an RX 570 (other recommendations please too)? What is the max video card to use with the Core 2 Q6600?
That depends entirely on what you want to do with that system.
This is what i was looking for
I have a question.. if i use an 32bit system and i put 8gb of ram just 4 will work?
Yes I've done this a few times :D
Actually 3 to just under 4.
in my case it always was 3,25GB
@@mstcrow5429 It will give a little more of the reserve to the iGPU for a small boost.
JFYI you can use the full 8 GB on Linux systems with the limit that a process can use a max of 4 GB.
Witcher 3 and Doom could do High settings with this, couldn't it though?
The tests are more about the CPU / System, so I use medium details to avoid being GPU limited.
Will it run mixed reality?
Actually i am running a 775 (Maximus Formula) with a Q6600 since 12 years (70,000 hours now and counting). I would keep it but it doesn't run Mixed Reality / SteamVR, and i bought a VR device to replace my 55" 3D monitor for Elite Dangerous VR.
Requirements :
CPU: Intel Mobile Core i5 (e.g. 7200U) Dual-Core with Hyperthreading equivalent
GPU: Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 620 (GT2) equivalent or greater DX12 API Capable GPU
RAM: 8GB+ Dual Channel required for integrated Graphics
HDMI: HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 for 60Hz head-mounted displays
HDMI: HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 for 90Hz head-mounted displays
HDD: 100GB+ SSD (Preferred) / HDD
USB: USB 3.0 Type-A or USB 3.1 Type-C Port with DisplayPort Alternate Mode
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 for accessories
USB3 is already installed. I've setup Win10 and SteamVR, connected a Lenovo Explorer to my USB3-Board and one of my Radeon 7990's (DX12) HDMI-ports. Mixed Reality didn't even start. It said, my CPU (Q6600) isn't supported because of missing commands. Question is, doesn't that apply to all 775 CPUs then?
Good video Phil. And I got a question, I bought an HP Elite 8200 and I want to update the bios. It boots up as windows 10 and I checked the HP website and it only supports up to Windows 8. Should I download the bios from windows 7? (which comes with the key) and how to update bios by using OEM system.
(This is my first time doing this and I'm scared of getting bricked)
Edit: Your HP elite video few months back inspired me to buy these OEM computers. Hope to get your reply or other users who have HP Elite series can help me as well.
The OS doesn't matter for BIOS flashing! I used 10 :)
PhilsComputerLab awesome! Cheers for your reply!
☺️
Watercool the hp elite 8300 get a 5 and a quarter inch resovoir and 92mm radiator
How powerful is this rig compared to a standard ps4?
phil, this may seem unrelated, but which av/security suite do you recommend for older, lower specced pcs with 8 gb ram or less?Is kaspersky a/v suitable for use on such systems?
Hmm I just use Windows 10 with whatever security is built in.
Yes, just use the Microsoft AV and maybe a hosts file blacklist. The other AV open too many holes.
would you recommend a new tbit motherboard or a refurbished z77 motherboard for my 3770.
I got 4.9 ghz starble on my old z77 board.
i do love old hardwares. but the power draw is high. is it possible to make a pc with these criteria:
- [cheap (lga 775 / 1156 / 1155)]
- [low powered (
Hello there, I have almost the same pc spec as yours, just gpu is different - r7 360. And im satisfied with it. Looking on your temps, mine are way higher than yours... I've used stock intel cooler for dual core and since it couldnt handle heats i switched with some scythe (older) cooler, but still have problems with temps... Also im using some Cooler Master V1 thermal paste, which im guessing its rubbish since it was the cheapest one i could find locally... Also i didnt add microcode to mine, just slapped cpu in...
What software do you use to read temps?
@@philscomputerlab CPUID HWMonitor. Also downloaded SpeedFan, wanted to tinker around with my fans and readings but dont have pwm fans atm. Eitherway there is difference between that two softwares. Or its just me and i dont understand that well. SPeedfan says 30 C on CPU HWMonitor says around 50 C on cores on idle.
@@frksman Try HWInfo
@@philscomputerlabHwInfo says ~44C on cores. Im guessing its bad paste. Will try new better one soon. And is it worth delid this kind of cpus? And is it possible
Tnx for share this with us
Is old rams are still manufactured?
Btw, i have biostar g41d3+, bought as NOS
the Graphic card itself is more expensive than everything else combined!
Do you know if the thermal compound on theese motherborads's chipsets are being changed? With 775 stuff it's really important as the original thermal paste is getting really hard and uneffective over the years.
Good point! I don't think so, and it's not something I've looked into. Might be something to check in future projects!
@@philscomputerlab Yeah, you shoud really replace this thermal compound under NB and SB heatsinks. Do you watch Tech YES City? I think i saw you in a comments section there, I recommend you going and check the parts restoration video. Also, for really hard and rocky thermal paste, you can use brake cleaner to take it off.
I need an help, ive overclocked my radeon hd 2400 pro (or the 2600)
