Dude. Advice. Transfer to DTE out of Southeast Michigan. A lineman told me a story about how in Nebraska he pulled a 1912 insulator and was very proud and he then transferred to DTE and that was everyday for him in the city. So much so that he used to collect in the beginning and stopped because it was no longer suprising to see crazier old stuff. Lots of early American power hardware here. Not sure where you are at but where it's cold, there is porcelain gold. So try contracting for DTE.
Nice insulators. And very nice backyard setup. Last week i got 10 high voltage insulators. And saturday i got a substation insulator ( and a very old vacuum pump). Proper tools are used to losen insulators from poles.
@@VariacManiac yes. a wrench, channel locks and a wire cutter will be nice to have when you find a big stack of poles. maybe you should get a pothead for your backyard setup.
This video remenbers me when i was 12 years old and i took down a pole, i was taking off some glass insulators, the pole was of wood and the wood was very broke, then the pole fell and fell in other pole making like a domino effect, but none of the insulators broke
Everything I find here is always the same like those clear sediver suspension insulators i have like 20 sets. And radio tops I probably have 50 big and small.
He and I met after I drove down to Florida. He and I exchanged info and we got together on an insulator hunt or three. Lots of poles were coming down, so we had a good score. Keep an eye out for any signs they might take down some around you.
Yes it is!! Lots of rebuilds are happening, might end up getting more. Also might start a substation construction job or linework. Not sure when yet, but hopefully after I get my CDL.
@@VariacManiac I would get into the line side through the IBEW union. Look them up they are a great organization that will help you get work once you obtain your cdl. Also do not lose that blue insulator its very rare and special. Can't wait to see more vids.
Nice hunt! That cobalt blue insulator looks awesome!
The finds are excellent, I convey greetings from Russia!
Thank you! Hello from America.
I’m so jealous I love those things
Lol
I am also a insulator hunter.I have a collection of 52 insulators.I also have 6 20kv insulators and 1 glass insulator
Nice finds! Get ‘em while the getting is good!
Those were some fun times man, hope to do it again someday!
It's possible that we'll do it as lineman from a pole lol.

Öö
A regular wrench, klines, and channel locks do the job very well. 😉

Today I was also engaged in this, I took metal from the telegraph line.
Nice!

You guys got me so jealous 🤣
Keep watching any old poles, they might just tear it down and allow you to get insulators.

wait i recognize that dude for some reason.. i think i might know him on favebook

How did you guys get together

1:41 all 3 are jewels.
Man this in inposible
It's fun!
3:08 surge arrester.
Metal Oxide Varistors distribution class.
Wouldnt some of those poles have oil containing pcbs?
Unlikely. Some poles have nasty preservatives such as creosote.
Awesome finds! I have a couple pin insulators that have that Japan logo on them. Btw is that a blue pin insulator in the thumbnail?

@@polarslightssignals2742 Recently graduated Lineman college, so hopefully have a leg up in the eyes of employers.
i'd love to do a Collab with hagen.
Do it! He's a good kid!
You won't be saving all that when you make it as a lineman. Right in the dumpster! We're not allowed to leave trash like that in the r/w. That's crazy
I suppose different companies do different things.
@@VariacManiac Although I saved a funky 3 skirted 1931 Lapp I took down on an arm change-out
@@wng8993 yeah, i can understand that most common stuff I'd eventually start tossing. The oddball I'd most likely keep.
@@VariacManiac are you planning on going to a line school somewhere?
@@wng8993 Just graduated Alpena Community College's lineman program. All I'm missing at the moment is a class A cdl.
YAY YOURE ALIVE!!!!! lol
sub to you and the other guy :D
