- In this video the vacuum distillation is shown and how it's done. As an expample benzaldehyde is distilled, with this method.

Instead of magnetic stir bar,use capillary tube attached to small nitrogen tank with a low bubble rate.AIR would oxidize the benzaldehyde to benzoic acid. ALSO, add 0.1% hydroquinone as inhibitor of oxidation.
Simply and clearly explained. Thank you!
love your videos!! … you forgot your gloves though
Nice to see how it's properly done in the lab. I just discovered the water vacuum pump, interesting. I need to find or make one. I just made a vacuum distillation device from 2 glass beer bottles and a copper tube to experiment with vacuum distilling salt water. The water boils in it at 45°C. Not bad for a home made thing withtout using a vacuum pump (I fill the two bottles, connect them and drain the water in the receiving bottle to make the vacuum). It can purify around 60ml of water a day only with the direct sun on the hot side (bottle painted black) and a water bath for the cold side.
Michel PASTOR yes it is possible to make a water pump cause i made one. 45C !! that must be a pretty good setup.
science Vlog Making good seals to get this low wasn't as easy as I initially thought. I should have used another type of bottles since the top is not exactly cylindrical and does not help with the seal but I used rubber o-rings and teflon tape on custom 3D printed caps with tight fit and it doesn't leak. The thing is I don't want the thing to explode in my face and it was the only strong bottles I had. What materials did you use to build your pump ? Maybe I can print one out of ABS plastic ?
Michel PASTOR Is the recieving flask the pure Bz? Or is the boiling flask??? How fast should the drip rate be? How long do you allow it to distill? What is the cutoff point? & how is one supposed to properly dilute the boiling flask with a soecific solution? And how do we know when that water solution is being aloud into the distillate????

Hey buddy this tutorial video is awesome but I have a problem because I am not a english speaker so I wonder if you could subtitle it or a description below it, please! I can manage the written english! Thanks a lot!
what is this used for ???
Hi! I need to purchase some round flasks for making vacuum distillation, but i would like to buy the flat bottom ones so i could heat them either in the heating mantle or on the hot plate. Is this something really convenient? Or are the round bottom flasks significantly more resistant to vacuum than the flat bottom ones, to the point that flat bottom ones could implode? Please help me with your advice. Thanks a lot!
Flat bottom ones might work, depending on the vacuum, but are way less resistant. I would rather have the disadvantage of being able to heat them only one way, than risking a glass apparatus to break, which has a vacuum inside.
@@RaExpIn I think you're right. Thanks for your advice!
What is the system of the vacuum ?
Please, teach me
it's an aspirator
Can all laboratory glassware withstand vacuum presure?
pressure, yes, altho you should put anything hot under vacuum like a hot erlenmeyer (it might bulge in in the bottom) anything round should be good tho
What is the boiling point of benzaldehyde, with use of vacuum ??
It depends on the quality of the pump and the sealing of the connections. Good setups lower the boiling point to around 90°C others, more like to 130°C.
