  • The United States, France, Germany, Japan, Italy. The list goes on. All countries that boast a powerful and effective ability to create movie masterpieces, from 'The Godfather' to 'Jaws', 'Bicycle Thieves' to 'Seven Samurai'. But what about Britain?
    With historical epics, gritty dramas, dark comedies, suave spies and boy wizards, the UK has a rich heritage in film. I set out months ago to create a short montage featuring the best of British cinema, however over time that montage transformed into a six minute film that delves into the history of cinema in the UK, featuring 80 films, spanning 80 years (1935-2015).
    A compiled list of the films featured in the video can be found on MUBI and Letterboxd:

    I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I did making it. Thank you.
    "Fuori Dal Mondo" by Ludovico Einaudi (from 'This Is England')
    "Building The Crate" by John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams (from 'Chicken Run')
    "Lost But Won" by Hans Zimmer (from 'Rush')

      +Inkshooter We're only 5 months late :) it's good to be back, hopefully we'll be getting the videos running frequently again soon. We've been working between film projects recently so unfortunately not had much time, but as of October we'll hopefully be able to dedicate more time back towards our RUclips videos. Thanks for the comment :)

    Plenty of James Bond, Danny Boyle, Edgar Wright and even some true classics. Sometimes I forget how awesome the movie industry in this country is.

    Does anyone know the actor playing a soldier at around 3:30 who is apparently told three times to "stop it"? Or the film he is in?

      +BronsonFan111 Yup it was. Originally it was from an Italian film called Fuori Dal Mondo, but Shane Meadows used it in This Is England, extremely well to add. Thanks for the comment!

    No Roeg, Russell or Schlesinger?

    • @SmashingUKProductions
      @SmashingUKProductions  9 лет назад +2

      +Matt Amato Unfortunately not, there are quite a few films we didn't include that we wish we could have. We did have a few Roeg films in the initial list however we were limiting it to 80 films over the 80 year span, so unfortunately it didn't make it. Thanks for the comment.

      +thatconkerkid Thanks a lot, do you mean our World War II one haha, unfortunately we're not allowed to place it online just yet as we're currently in the festival circuit and placing it online would risk its eligibility. Thanks for asking about it though, we do however have a new trailer for it to keep people in the loop which can be found on our Vimeo, it will be on RUclips this week.

    Harry Potter - Universal, James Bond - Columbia Pictures, Kick Ass - Plan B Entertainment. All American Production Companies

    • @SmashingUKProductions
      @SmashingUKProductions  7 лет назад +7

      Unfortunately you were woefully incorrect on a lot of information you just provided, firstly both Harry Potter and James Bond are DISTRIBUTED by US companies, not produced by them, they are British produced. Furthermore, Harry Potter is Warner Bros, not Universal, and James Bond is also United Artists and MGM, Columbia Pictures only handled the reboots since 2006, so let's try again.
      - Harry Potter - Heyday Films (British production company), distributed by US company (not produced by them).
      - James Bond - Eon Productions (British production company), distributed by US company (again... not produced by them).
      Distribution doesn't define a film's country of origin, it is solely responsible for the marketing of the film (hence both series being large in America). The production company however DOES define a film's country of origin, both of which above are crafted by British production companies.
      As for Kick Ass. yes it was produced by Plan B, but it was a joint-production with Matthew Vaughn's own Marv Films... a British production company, so it's a co-production between the UK and US.
      Thanks for the comment, but we did do our research prior to this, we are well aware of what's a British film and what's not. Thanks.
