Have this for 18 years. we both use the same oil as you seem aware it is the best. I have now bought a new 24kw and am bring this one to lake house because it in such great shape. I live ground zero for hurricanes and have had to run it for weeks at a time.. Run the motor couple minutes to help slow oil. I do clean, wax outside like a car and sprayed Corrosion X on internal parts. nice content.
Dude oil last 6 months. Even if it looks "clean brand new" it lost his properties, luckly you got a filter... But even with it, and running yearly... Good chances to something going wrong. Stand by gen, needs to be checked every 6 months, and started at least 2 times a month. When things go crazy, and you need the maximum output power from it... he can, you know, blow up. Keep it clean, use gas ethanol free, and crank it up once in a while up to operating temperature to eliminate moisture, and put some load in it, to excitates the circuit, wiring, voltage regulator etc... Times crazy these days, and you are lucky to have such unit in case of emergency. Take care. God bless you.
Thanks for this! I recently bought a house with one of these. No prior experience with generators. This will come in handy when I go to check things later today!
omg thank you I have the 12kw 040229-2 Briggs and Stratton 627cc Vanguard motor and couldn't find where or the avr might be and now this tells me everything i needed to know because i just got another replacement battery thinking the battery went bad and in 2 weeks it was dead and had interstate batteries recharge it thinking it was bad and then within another 2 weeks dead again.. i held down the set exercise for 3 secs and saw the light come on and finally had it do its weekly set cycle again.
To replace the air filter just reach up on top of the engine and there is a large wing nut that just spins off by hand. There is not much room up there, but it will come off. Here is the filter on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Briggs-Stratton-841359-Cartridge-Filter/dp/B005F6RE12 It has a foam pre-filter, you should be able to just wash that if it is not too bad.
There is a switch that is Off or Auto, I just switch that to off. But, that circuit on mine is messed up, it no longer cranks by itself; so I don't have to worry about that.
@@Project2Potential There is a "Set Exercise" button you press and it runs for 20 minutes on the day and time you press that button once a week. Although that does not work on mine and I just manually start it about once a month.
Thanks for the vid! Tough to find good/easy info on this generator.

LOL, I thought I was the only one that waxes a generator.

Glad the video helped you!
Typically we (company) use a transfer pump of some sort, there’s a few out there. But it’s 12v just hook to the battery and boom the oils out.
I am looking to replace the air filter…do you have any videos or recommended videos?

How did you know it wouldn’t come on while you were changing the oil? Did you turn it off?
There is a switch that is Off or Auto, I just switch that to off. But, that circuit on mine is messed up, it no longer cranks by itself; so I don't have to worry about that.
If you run it before hand it will drain a lot faster.
How do you set the maintenance schedule?
Do you mean when it cranks itself once a week? Or how often do I change the oil?
@@chandlersgarage ya when it cranks once a week

Ok! That makes sense. Thanks eh!
