Cutting up a Mint 1961 Cadillac Coupe DeVille: Finnegan's Garage Ep.120

- In episode 119 I introduced you to my Caddy, which I bought to turn into a drag race and landspeed car. The goal is to run 8s in the 1/4 mile and 200 mph in a standing mile event while still cruising this luxurious behemoth on the street. In today's video, we completely strip the '61 down to a bare shell and then anger Kar Kulture Karens everywhere by cutting out the rust-free floors and trunk to make room for a new mandrel bent chassis. It's gonna be an awesome project car thanks to the dudes at MRC Fabrication in Kendersville, North Carolina. This shop specializes in off-the-deep-end builds and can custom build a chassis for nearly anything. Visit the shop's instagram profile ( MRCFABBULLARD ) for more photos of the build and all the other stuff they have created.

Sorry for your loss finnegan hope you’re pulling through. The caddy build is going to be so wild and unique!
Sorry to hear about your dad man. He seemed like a cool guy from the episodes of roadkill he was in. Hope you and your family is doing well.
Yea I remember the episode where Finnigan dropped in to his dad's store and he seemed like such a great guy. Sorry to hear he's gone.
@@rickdaystar477 That was such a cool episode too, they were sooo happy to see each other. He will surely be missed
I think everyone who seen that episode I said the same thing time I already did. But what you said is true
My condolences brother. Hard to loose our parents.
Lost my Dad earlier this year so my deepest heartfelt condolences and prayers to Finnegan and his family!🙏🏾
Have that front bumper molded and remade in carbon fiber then wrap it in chrome wrap so it looks like original but weighs nothing.
Sounds like a terrible idea, Just throw it away
Hey, that's a decent idea. I would want it to be one peice though.
It wouldn't be overly complicated to have that bumper maid in fiberglass in pieces then glass it together once its done and smoothed out u can have it spray chromed the shits legit and its a 3rd of the cost of dipping but u can't really dip fiberglass lol
@@kevinjohnson9372 He could get his maid to make it
Yeah its not to hard but tbh with 2000ish hp i think makeing it hook and go strate is gonna be more important then lightning it up haha
Thanks for being you Finnegan! Giving us fans what we crave even through this pandemic. We appreciate you man!💪💚🤙 Stay safe. Love and light!
Light it up???
Thanks for watching!
Condolences. Thank you for all that you do to make content for us to enjoy. Keep up the good work. He is proud of you.
Somewhere a Cadillac restorer yelled out as you cut that heater hose.
Me 😂 i bought a pos 64 limo Just because i couldn't handle the guilt of killing a mint one
@@toxictophat711 You da man!
Me.... I asked for them.. WOuld have paid dearly.. No reply.
My 2 year old son pointed to the screen when you split the body and yelled “uh oh!” Lol
LMAO
Best wishes, Finn. Terribly sorry for your loss, your family is in our prayers.
I was so impressed with the first shot up the caddy’s skirt, the engineering, fit and finish that GM did in 59’-60’ is pretty impressive and nice to look at... I’m not hurt that your modifying the old girl just because in doing so your bringing new life to her and doing it right. Keep up the work guys
Sorry to hear about your father. The story he told in RK about you taking apart your car in a million pieces in a garage and putting it back together again is something I am thinking about, The look on his face when he said he knew you found your calling when he saw the car running again is something I wish I had a opportunity to see in my folks. Keep on doing what you do.
Sorry to hear about your dad's passing Mike. His store was a regular stop for my ex wife and me, whenever we went to visit with her family. A lot of great memories, a lot of laughs, some to the point of tears, with him, over the 7 years we'd drive down there to visit. He was a good man, who could always make you laugh and smile, no matter how bad your day was.
Rest easy Mr. Finnegan. Miss you already my friend.
On the Caddy, from Roadkill to the 200 MPH club. If I wasn't subbed al deass already, I'd be subbing now. Can't wait to see the end result. That thing is.gonna be wicked!
To build a really good car...start with good car is the best scenario!
To build a really good car starf with vision talent and ability. Obviously these guys don't have any of that or they could of started with a car that needed rebuilding.
You would be surprised how many times I’ve been watching an automotive RUclips channel and I’m screaming use a plumb bob. It’s like people forget the basics sometimes.
Good to see these guys still remember how to properly use a pointy weight on a string.
Much easier to start with a solid car. Parts left from caddy, surely will save another one. And sure it will be much cooler and faster when finished.
All he really needs is a clean body. By the time he’s done cutting this car up there’s not going to be much left that is Cadilac
So sorry for your loss Finn. Thinking about you and all your family.
Now get that Caddy to 200.. Your Dad will be super proud 🏁
Im not usually a car culture nut and love seeing resto-mods when done well, but I have to admit...after seeing all the rust buckets here in PA that were too far gone to do anything with....seeing this car get cut up kinda brought a tear to my eye, but one thing I learned watching all these episodes of Finnegans Garage is this car will be freaking COOL when its done
Mike every boy can only lose his hero once. Remember all the good times and cherish all the memories y’all had together.
Sorry to hear that you’ve lost your dad, it’s a tough road, my garage wasn’t the same without my dad when I lost him. Great video can’t wait to see her hit 2 Hundy.
Awesome stuff! That nomad is so sweet. Sorry for your loss Finn.
I honestly haven't been this excited since the Blasphemi, you got good taste.
I love it. I did the same thing to a award-winning 1970 Superbee with a 440, 6 pack with a pistol grip four speed. I now have over 3000 hours of work into the car and am looking for another thousand hours to finish. The body is finished and needs interior and paint. I had it put my garage because of COVID and hopefully sooner than later, when the stuff blows over and the vaccine is used. I will be back at it. Hot rods by Dean has been the builder of the car. Being that I have a spinal cord injury, I can't take the risk of getting it. I have highly diminished lung capacity. Because of being paralyzed from the neck down, my muscles around my drinking age don't work. So my diaphragm has taken over. Anyway, again, I absolutely love what you are doing and can't wait to see it going down the track.
It says a lot about your content that I am willing to listen to that music just to watch it.
Thank you!! Testarossa is proud to call you a fan!! Rock on!!🤘🤘
@@buddyradford9904 I'm not saying you don't have talent. I certainly can't scream musically like you. Hell, I'm a child of the 80s and you embody a lot of what I listened to back then. I can appreciate what you do, I just don't like it. Like most of my opinions, I'm likely in the minority.
So sorry for your loss Mike. Hang in there man.

It's awesome Playlist, all very similar sounding in chord progressions and dynamic range. A little "loud, quiet, loud" would really help. Keep on rocking guys! If you ever need a drummer from the northwest, lmk.

Amusing how he has no reaction what so ever to that little doggo going crazy with the pant leg.
My grandpa had a little mutt poodle, and she was in the shop with him all the time. He took a sock, and put a newspaper in it and then hung it from the ceiling of the shop. Whenever he was looking at what ever he was working on and thinking, he would swing it and the dog would go nuts
Sorry for your loss brother...I'm sure he's proud of the accomplishments you've made in the time he was with you.
Is that a nomad i see in primer?Ive Loved that car since Tim Allen dropped a beam on his wifes in home improvement
yep, that's a 1956 Nomad...2nd best Nomad in my opinion,,,1955 model had a lot more Nomad only styling features and in 56 and 57 Chevy kept trimming the features to make the Nomad more mainstream
Yes, my question exactly, more info needed on that blue nomad, looks awesome!!
yeah it's a '56 Nomad. And just to ease the pain a little, watch that episode *closely* next time and you'll see that they didn't actually drop that beam on a Nomad ;-)

That wet towel throw onto the fire on the floor was pretty clutch
The only parts I cringed at were the nice interior panels and parts exposed to the sparks and flames when cutting.

Hey finn sorry to hear about your loss. Missed you at 2.4 hours of le mullets. Caddy build is going to be awesome
When it's your car, you can do whatever you want with it... so cut it up! lol
Sorry to here about your dad. I help my dad replace the noise on a 63 Cadillac and when I went to get my driver's license at 16, he threw me his Cadillac keys and said take it for your test.
I was more nervous about driving his Cadillac and afraid of damaging my dad's baby than thinking about passing my test. After passing the test with the inspector, all the inspector said at the end of my driver's test was, wow what a nice riding car.
BTW love that 56 Nomad next to the lift. I'm building a 55 Monad with a slightly tweaked 283, a turbo 400 and 2" dropped air suspension car to match my other 55 Nomad. Yes I'm calling mine, a Monad since all the chrome and SS will be flat black or carbon fiber. Because I have had my other Nomad since I was 18 and it was built the month I was born. I'm tired of polishing chrome for show but will never get rid of her. I have had it too long now.
That's a dandy of a shop dog!

When I built my 46 GMC, I got so many comments of "What a shame, you should have restored it."
Meanwhile when I found it, it was a neglected shell that had been used for parts and nobody wanted. People will always say you should have done something different. This is an exciting project that I'm excited to see you complete!
Anyone can restore a classic car but it takes a true gear head to cut one up,I think this will be one badass build, long and low!
Ill never give anyone shit for cutting up a perfect car to build whatever there heart desires, I think this project is gonna be badass when its done🤘🤘

That wagon is so frikkin cool
It's your car, you should be able to do what you want with it. Cut it up and make it awesome. I hate it when people tell me what i should or shouldn't do because they think something different than what i do. Your Ideas are your own and every custom car is unique and awesome. I wouldn't care if it was worth $5 or $5,000,000.
Sorry to hear about your Father passing, my condolences to the family.
So excited for this car. Love the fact that the tyres don't look that big behind it as it's so wide
Wish you could have used a different car. That was a peice of history that's destroyed now.
How is it destroyed? Hes building it into something better
What do you mean a piece of history there’s plenty of stock caddies to go around. If anything the drag caddy is writing it’s own history!
Guess you should have bought it first
Hey fin, so sorry for your loss. We all are thinking about you and your family.
Cut it, nobody gives a damn about the purity of an old Caddy that's modified to do 200mph
So glad your going 4 link, much better then ladder bar's!!
LOL the Dog's face at 3:01!!! 'What the hell are you doing?" I wouldn't have wanted to cut up such a clean caddy. But.. If you're going to do it you've at least got a well defined goal, a roadmap, and are doing the work right. That plan may not stand without many ad-libs, changes, oh-shit moments, etc. but You're going in the right direction so far :)
Also. Condolences on losing your dad. I lost mine back in early 2018 and it is still the toughest thing that I've ever gone through, and at this point i'm not sure I'll ever totally heal from it. In a world of not-great dads I was really lucky to end up with mine.
As far as I'm concerned, that car is yours to do what you want with. I've destroyed vintage things just for the sake of making something new and it was fun! Wasn't exactly a Cadillac but was a bit of Americana that holds sentimental value for people. if you're on shelf collecting dust or I can make something out of it. So I did. People got over it LOL
Thank you for putting out this video especially with your devastating loss. Can not thank you enough for doing what you do
Great content, the Caddy's sacrifice is not in vain!

Hello Mike that reminded me of when you cut the floor out for the Nascarlo but without the wo wo Take Care Guys
The little doggie is the best worker...
The secret is your weight. We didn't narrow we were in but we could fit 10 inch slicks hidden inside the skirts. That was all we needed was 600 horsepower and 530 gears and we were fine. No matter what size tires you got all that weight is going to be an advantage. I love you it is a bigger advantage than the weight is a problem no doubt it will be a winner!
