Mr. Skinner, I’ve been reading your fishing technique books since I was a kid I’m 41 years old now. And I have my own RUclips fishing channel. I really enjoy your content 👍
Good stuff!..My best keeper day..Was on the C.Q. during a mod. Trip..Some years back... 22 keeps....That was a great day with lots of laughter..Enjoy..
Have fun in sunny Fla! Watch that line while you release those fish, one of these time a fish will tangle as it falls and pull that hook from your hand ..
I wasn't surprised you caught the better fish on the other side, my thinking is your bait is away from all the small fish that are gathered with the most amount of bait allowing the bigger fish a chance at getting your bait
im a huge believer in move your feet while blackfishing. Ive been on an 80’ boat with bottom underneath the whole thing and only five feet on one side is producing fish. One after the other
That's what I would call a SPECTACULAR Day! I won't tell anybody that I saw you putting MAGIC DUST in your crab bucket. All that experience is just a side effect on having it! LOL Feast at Skinner's house I bet! I haz a jealousy! The Vietnamese make a nice soup with the heads and collars. Sounds interesting to me! How did you cook yours? (I'm a foodie, so I want your secrets!) LOL Thanks for sharing and showing if you're out there enough, you'll get GIFT days like this every now and then! And I'm going to copy your technique to the letter next time I'm out! Probably April!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing That actually sounds good, and with peanut oil, can be fried hot enough to get CRUNCHY! Not so healthy? We made it this far, so in moderation is just fine. Enjoy and never look back!
If I keep watching these videos I'm going to have to start doing some inshore fishing. I think I would get a kick out of catching blackfish on light tackle. I got a couple small mouth outfits with 10 and 15lb on light spinning rods. I just switched over to all lithium batteries and next is spot lock. I've noticed people get really butt hurt when I try to anchor on structure anymore. I can't count how many times I get cursed out every year wreck fishing. If you want to fish the structure you should get there 1st 😂😆😂
I know you are hoping for Skinners response, but I'll offer my 2 cents. I've sold off all my casting reels for various reasons to how I like to fish. Take my opinion for what it is. 1. Spinning reels are better for more situations. 2. More control and better feel for the fight on spinning reels. Better drag control, etc. 3. More feel for the sensitivity to the bottom and for fish bites. 4. I like the action and grip on the spinning rod more so than casting. 5. A more fun fight. Again, take it for what it is, but I use spinning rod for trolling, jigging, surf casting, river fishing, and I've never felt like I was at a loss not having a casting over a spinning.
I just feel I can move fish off the structure faster with spinning, and a spinning rod/reel sits better in my hand for feeling the bites. FWIW, I have not fished with anyone who uses a casting reel for tog jigging.
Those crabs look like our European green crabs . We tend to only use them when they are shedding their shells ..ie the soft parts. We tend to only used the hard crabs for ballen wrasse . This is making me rethink this . These crabs are so easily available.
They are the same crabs. They're an invasive species for us, and very plentiful. On behalf of America, thank you Europe for giving us crabs. They make great bait.
Ooooh the seavee 👀👌🏻 does John charter? If so share the name I’d love to use him next fall looks like he’s out of orient. Awesome day of fishing! If I could ask one question it would be what water temp do the blackfish stop biting or do they just move deeper and stay active all winter? I’ve also been using the tsunami evict and loving it great reel!
Ok I realized you said his last name and I think I found him if he is justfishingcharters out of greenport, definitely will give him some business this fall!
Another great video. Question though....when you cut the legs off the crabs why do you do it over the bucket and not just let the legs fall over the side.
It's because in one of his underwater videos, you could see the frenzy of smaller fish that it created. All the cut legs attracted porgies, seabass, bergalls, and smaller tog...all fighting for the "scraps". So when your jig gets down there with ur bait, they clean you off before the bigger 'togs can move in.
Hello Mr Skinner just a question do you have any books that you're making that you're writing about Blackfish I mean I know everything you know I know about the black fish and what to use what not I just want to know if you wrote a book about the Blackfish and how do I go by getting it because the only thing I got is a debit card I don't have that power card or whatever just a debit thank you if you can help me
You were talking about a 2500 reel that you liked better than the Penn Slammers? If I were to buy a new reel, I like the Slammers value, but maybe I need to look deeper. I couldn't make out which you said. (Vicks or Vix?) Please share that again! Thanks!
I have both your jig & bounce casting rods, love them so much I want to be buried with them ! Question, why doesn’t the heavier one have a tacky fore grip like the light one ? Safe travels, watch out for the sharks and gators. Thanks.
I'm glad you like the rods! The heavier rod was the first one, and I was focused on the jigging hand slipping near the reel. The fore-grip isn't a slipping risk, but I agree I like the sticky grip up there on that lighter rod a lot.
John has been evicted from his florida home please take in this small bearded he’s been sleeping under the highway for a month and a half now every time I pass by I drop a coke from the top of the bridge and see if I can hit him it’s actually really sad he then usually slurps up what’s on the ground
Hey John, you ever do the late season party boat scene up in new hampshire? If not you should really consider it one of these winters before you head south. Jumbo cusk, big pollock, haddock, acadian reds, chance at a wolf, shark or halibut. Theyre also half of what all the other boats charge. $82 for a full day is a steal.
Are you fishing off Rhode Island (Highway something or other)? For a man of your fishing prowess I would like to see you use the pole I bought “Dark matter Psychedelic “ it’s less Hollywood 😂
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Good point. So the 10#, at 40' depth, has a lateral surface area of .0618 sq ft. The 30# has a lateral surface area of .11 so roughly 2x over the same distance. Length does matter! 🤣
Very awesome that you worked it out! That sounds about right based on the feel while fishing. The same thing applies to fluke jigging - no heavier than 15# even off Montauk and Block.

Can you legally sell your catch? I suppose you wont keep all of them to yourself: there's just way too many! UPD: ok, you got the limit and from there you release.
The feeling of pulling the fish to the surface of water is indescribable. I love that feeling

Can't wait for the underwater drone footage now that you're headed back to Florida. I'm like a kid waiting on Santa.

yes
How do you fish and not know this genuinely concerning that you claim to fish
What was that bit about the seal? Does a seal mean you have to stop fishing?
They can scare the fish. They usually move along, which this one did.
Usually if you don’t comply with the seals wishes he will curse at you while throwing a full peach cobbler at the captain

Not RI.
Why don’t you put the crab legs into the water for chum?
A whole headboat with 30 fishermen struggles to maybe catch one each, while you catch 30 by yourself.. just amazing..
So the difference btw 10# and 30# braid is roughly .1mm diameter. You reall feel like that matters in current scope?

No - I was referring to jig fishing for tog, which I've noticed most beginners struggle with at first.
