@LITTLE FOX , The sound that you think is whistling is what is called overtones. The high pitch sound coming out gives a whistling sound, which pitch is decided by the shape and size of the inside of his mouth.
He is not whisteling, he takes breath inside and release the breath outside while playing the jaw'sharp, the mouth is to be empties as much as possible during playing this instrument. The echo inside the empty mouth is actually the music produced by jaw's harp. I can play this.
Beautiful, that's the real thing with apnea, not the newer style that the youngsters play, which borrows from carnatic moorsing (that's an impressive style though). But this is soulful 👍
@LittleFox13 No, he is not whistling. Morchang (jaw harp) is played differently, you just "modify" basic sound of jaw harp moving tongue to different positions just like you modify sound of vocal ligaments when speaking.
Love the hypnotizing spiraling overtone you create! i have to find me a Morchang as well to see how it plays and hear how it sounds, love to try out new harps!

Mutsuri It's hard to say what it was derived from. It's believed to be one of the oldest instruments ever created, before strings. It's a combination of some what s string instrument and wind instrument. Drums are possibly older, not sure, tamberines as well. Possibly the conception came from hunting bows, as some mouth harps use a string. It's believed many common instruments today we're inspired by this instrument. Basically, a harmonica is a chain of mouth harps. The sound produced by a harmonica depends in the same physics as this simple harp. The mouth harp produces sounds by the vibrating metal Reed. Which is the same concept as saxophone, clarinet, harmonica, even a guitar and stringed instruments are all the same concept. So chances are this instrument is very primative and original and has been the basis upon which numerous others have been made.

hes just opening and closing his mouth as he does that, if you are talking about the noise you are at the end, that was him hitting his tooth, and that shit hurts.
bigdanish78 Yea it's the same thing, the whistling come from a higher key that the instrument is tuned in. You are right that american version was less loud, more boing and not a lot of whistling.

@LittleFox13 Sound also depends on instrument. Morchangs have quite stiff tongue and high base note. Also try closed sounds...

No, inhale and exhale during play can create undertones and sound like a whistle.

Whistle = Siffle. Vous savez, quand vous pincez les lèvres et souffler pour créer un son aigu.

Try playing one, a well made one. If you get in a pattern. The vibs and the sounds are capable of producing a buzzed or high feeling.
