    Brown dwarf, yeah right. Movie says that but in reality that would have been more likely a neutron star remnant. Brown dwarves are actually failed stars that never achieved true fusion. They typically, as far as we know, have masses more than 12 times that of Jupiter. When this movie came out that mass was far higher. However, an object that small with such a high mass would more likely be a neutron star fragment. A brown dwarf would be mostly made of gas with a small rocky core. A neutron star fragment would be made of high dense material such as iron and nickle.

      @ssoltau9318 Год назад +1

      @@Fwangxl No. I'm more of a hobby astronomer. But, even though I'm an amateur, I still keep myself up to date with the latest discoveries. Brown dwarves, as I said, are objects that didn't quite become stars and typically have masses at least 10 times that of Jupiter, with a similar diameter to Jupiter. Neutron stars are the remains of dead stars and typically have diameters of 10 to 30 kilometers, roughly the same size as the one that hit the moon in this movie, but with a mass roughly 1 to 3 times that of the sun. It has happened that two neutron stars collide, fuse into one object, end ejecting a large amount of debris, which is why I called this a neutron star fragment. Now, it's unlikely that this object, with a mass equal to the earth, would have that irregular shape. The smallest spherical object in our solar system is Miranda with a diameter of 470 kilometers, but with a much smaller mass than Ceres since Miranda is mostly water ice.

    • @ssoltau9318
      @ssoltau9318 Год назад

      @@MrBiggles53 Yeah. With Moonfall, that White Dwarf is a major issue. White dwarf stars are the remnants of stars with a mass of 8 suns or less, and they have masses between 0.5 and 1.44 times that of the sun. So, with that white dwarf in the moon, that would cause issues. There's a thing called the Roche limit. It's the zone around an object where if another object enters it, the gravitational pull of the larger, more massive object would tear the smaller less massive object apart. That white dwarf, doesn't matter if has 0.5 or 1.44 times the mass of the sun, the earth would be inside the Roche limit of that white dwarf. We'd be torn apart and form a ring around it. And that's just with earth. That white dwarf would cause all kinds of chaos on the rest of the solar system. It would cause the orbits of the other planets to become unstable. I'm not a physicists or professional astronomer, but I can see several planets being ejected from the solar system.

      @glycerosfournaris2512 Год назад

      @Barry F There are no gravitational fields.
      Gravity being described as a force is flawed.
      Gravity is the distortion of the parallel lines in the universe ( can not see em ) by the mass of the objects such as stars, planets, etc.
      So when there is an object with large enough mass to distort those lines, they bend ( never stopping to be parallel ), and all things that "ride" on them come closer.
      Now in the case of satellites like the moon because they are affected by the earth's distortion but at the same time from other plants and the sun of the solar system it remains in a rotation around the earth but slowly drifts away.
      If gravity was a force as described in books, then the moon would come closer, not drift away.

    • @barryf7253
      @barryf7253 Год назад +2

      @@glycerosfournaris2512 A force is anything which causes an object to accelerate (F=MA). Gravity does that because it is a space-time curvature. A curvature in space is a change in direction, but in space-time it is a change in velocity, i.e. acceleration. In General Relativity it is also represented by a contraction or expansion of space which results in the same thing.
      The moon is held in orbit because it is held there by two pseudo forces: centrifugal (or inertial) and gravitational, which counterbalance one another.
      I think it is the term "force" which is misunderstood rather than the idea of gravity representing one. Anything can be called a force if it causes an exchange of energy from one form to another.
      Aside from all this pointy-headed stuff, my only point was that the earth wants to expand due to the static pressure of its mass, but also condense due to the gravity it produces. If you turn one of those "forces" off, it will either collapse into a black hole or explode outward into space.
