- Let's leave aside the scientific bloopers, of which there are many in the picture. Much more important is the idea expressed in the finale: for people to understand that they are all children of the same Earth, must life itself be threatened?

The only thing about this movie that makes me happy is that Einstein didn't live long enough to suffer through it...
Top scientists offer best solution, but nah let’s ignore them and make things worse because blowing up the moon sounded cooler 😂
The jocks(military) say the nerds(scientist) are incompetent
Have you seen dragon ball?
This is why we still have wars to this day. The fear of not being first outweighs the possibility of total world annihilation apparently.
The movie doesn't happen.
@@josephmclendon6705 The movie was made, and it is being discussed. You can argue it's not a real event and that would be true but irrelevant here.
I must admit, that TV show's scientific inaccuracies are so profound, they possess the remarkable ability to induce an inverse learning process, effectively unburdening me of scientific knowledge while simultaneously amplifying my bewilderment.
Anyone told you you read too many books?

gravity disappears on earth, don't try anything, because you won't have the strength, because the air disappears faster than you can feel, so you won't have the strength to try any struggle even if you want to try, so save your strength and hold the breath, and enjoy the last journey to sky,

I really appreciate your final statement of the video, and it's something we should all ponder and consider deeply... " Must there really be a catastrophic threat to humanity before we all realise we are one gigantic family - Humans".... All this wars and killing each other is senseless and just sad!!!😭😭
It's been pondered far more deeply than a tacky movie like this could initiate.
Existential crises have a tendency to bring out the worst and best in humanity.
They don't stop people from indulging in the biased, superstitious, poor instinctual control and anthropocentric nonsense common to our species. That may sound cynical, but it's very much the truth. Some look for solutions, while the vast majority dive into varying degrees of fantasy, denial and ignorance.
@@skateboardingjesus4006 I totally agree with you boss! There's just some part of people who don't give a fuck about anyone else but themselves and some are just evil to their core!!.... It's very sad and disturbing!!
But we're not. And thinking that, that's what is likely to destroy us all. Not everything that looks human actually is human. Psychopaths live among us.
Wars are good, if it wasn't for wars, humanity would be in a far worst condition than it is now. I would like you & your family & friends to forgo all these inventions, Super Glue, Duct Tape, WD-40, Chemotherapy, Tissue's, Jet Engines, Jerry Cans, Canned Food, Sanitary Towels, Sun Lamp, Vegetarian Sausage, Wrist Watch, Zips/Zipper, Stainless Steel, Tea Bags, Pilot Communications, Plastic Surgery, Radar, This one you can do without, Microwave Ovens, Tanks, Higgins Craft, Jet Engine, Rocket Propulsion and bc of this last one, NASA invented TEFLON for the rocket windows, now used on a lot of kitchen utensils
So, lets see you go for a month not using any of the above
Without the Moon, the Earth will start to Tilt and loose its Seasons and chaos will begin with the Earths rotation and weather
Brown dwarf, yeah right. Movie says that but in reality that would have been more likely a neutron star remnant. Brown dwarves are actually failed stars that never achieved true fusion. They typically, as far as we know, have masses more than 12 times that of Jupiter. When this movie came out that mass was far higher. However, an object that small with such a high mass would more likely be a neutron star fragment. A brown dwarf would be mostly made of gas with a small rocky core. A neutron star fragment would be made of high dense material such as iron and nickle.
Are u studying to become a scientist?
Oh my. A sci fi TV series writer is clueless about astrophysics, definition of terms, and laws of physics.
Color me shocked.
@@Fwangxl No. I'm more of a hobby astronomer. But, even though I'm an amateur, I still keep myself up to date with the latest discoveries. Brown dwarves, as I said, are objects that didn't quite become stars and typically have masses at least 10 times that of Jupiter, with a similar diameter to Jupiter. Neutron stars are the remains of dead stars and typically have diameters of 10 to 30 kilometers, roughly the same size as the one that hit the moon in this movie, but with a mass roughly 1 to 3 times that of the sun. It has happened that two neutron stars collide, fuse into one object, end ejecting a large amount of debris, which is why I called this a neutron star fragment. Now, it's unlikely that this object, with a mass equal to the earth, would have that irregular shape. The smallest spherical object in our solar system is Miranda with a diameter of 470 kilometers, but with a much smaller mass than Ceres since Miranda is mostly water ice.
Plus the super dense mass would have accumulated a lot more of the meteor stream in stead of stealthing among the tinh rocks. Wholly-weird can’t science. It’s about ax dumb as Moonfall.
@@MrBiggles53 Yeah. With Moonfall, that White Dwarf is a major issue. White dwarf stars are the remnants of stars with a mass of 8 suns or less, and they have masses between 0.5 and 1.44 times that of the sun. So, with that white dwarf in the moon, that would cause issues. There's a thing called the Roche limit. It's the zone around an object where if another object enters it, the gravitational pull of the larger, more massive object would tear the smaller less massive object apart. That white dwarf, doesn't matter if has 0.5 or 1.44 times the mass of the sun, the earth would be inside the Roche limit of that white dwarf. We'd be torn apart and form a ring around it. And that's just with earth. That white dwarf would cause all kinds of chaos on the rest of the solar system. It would cause the orbits of the other planets to become unstable. I'm not a physicists or professional astronomer, but I can see several planets being ejected from the solar system.
If gravity suddenly stopped the whole earth would explode because of the internal pressure. It's like a spring that's balanced against the downward force of gravity.
Gravity cannot suddenly stop since it is not as we learn it at school.
Simple as that.
@@glycerosfournaris2512 Of course. Gravitational fields contain potential energy which cannot just disappear. That would violate the conservation of energy law.
@Barry F There are no gravitational fields.
Gravity being described as a force is flawed.
Gravity is the distortion of the parallel lines in the universe ( can not see em ) by the mass of the objects such as stars, planets, etc.
So when there is an object with large enough mass to distort those lines, they bend ( never stopping to be parallel ), and all things that "ride" on them come closer.
Now in the case of satellites like the moon because they are affected by the earth's distortion but at the same time from other plants and the sun of the solar system it remains in a rotation around the earth but slowly drifts away.
If gravity was a force as described in books, then the moon would come closer, not drift away.
@@glycerosfournaris2512 A force is anything which causes an object to accelerate (F=MA). Gravity does that because it is a space-time curvature. A curvature in space is a change in direction, but in space-time it is a change in velocity, i.e. acceleration. In General Relativity it is also represented by a contraction or expansion of space which results in the same thing.
The moon is held in orbit because it is held there by two pseudo forces: centrifugal (or inertial) and gravitational, which counterbalance one another.
I think it is the term "force" which is misunderstood rather than the idea of gravity representing one. Anything can be called a force if it causes an exchange of energy from one form to another.
Aside from all this pointy-headed stuff, my only point was that the earth wants to expand due to the static pressure of its mass, but also condense due to the gravity it produces. If you turn one of those "forces" off, it will either collapse into a black hole or explode outward into space.
@Barry F Whatever you wrote is flawed, that is because time as we calculate and learn about is also flawed.
Actually, there are certain theories that say time doesn't even exist !!
They form a special team of scientists to figure out what's happening and any possible solutions. They determined they have 48hrs before all electronics are disabled globally and then they go out to dinner?
The moon is going to destroy the earth and an asteroid is heading our way so lets dress up and go to a restaurant for dinner.
They have time to have dinner under this circumstances?
Lol
Having a brown dwarf (which is still hundreds of times more massive than Jupiter) collide with the moon wouldn't turn it into a magnet because suns aren't magnetic, a sun's magnetism comes from it's mass+rotation
Even the end of the movie it's a fantasy because we know the rich and greedy would find a way to profit off this 🤷🏻♀️
In real life; humans would not work together ever
Movie or not. The FIRST thing that would happen is ALL THE AIR WOULD FLOAT AWAY. then we die no air.
Absolutely true
Dibs on Electric Discharge for a band name!
This movie should have been called, “Benjamin Sadler is soooo handsome.”
I had this on DVD the actress who did the species movies is in this. Haven't seen this in a longtime thanks for the recap
Thanks, I kept wondering where did I see the blonde woman.
Glad I could help
Just for the record a brown dwarf is a gas giant that doesn’t have enough mass to achieve fusion. It would be a little bit larger than Jupiter and several times the mass. Definitely not a small super magnet lol.
God sent those fiery kill rocks to show his love!
Okay....I just have one question? As scientists, didn't they understand that loosing the moon out of our orbit wouldn't be beneficial to the planet and life as we all know it? Sigh, sci-fi disaster movies.....
This was terrible the movie I mean
The moon & the tides go hand in hand
Bogus science aside, this was the first movie I thought of when I heard about "Moonfall".
What a study of unique specimen of work.
Of course every cosmic threat has only one solution ( Just Nuke The Damn Thing ).😂
I have seen this trend in almost all the movies.
Anything massive enough to change would be noticed right away from the impact and moon's reaction. Gravitational effects would not be localized. If cars were lifting, the atmosphere would vent and surface would crack and it would all be too late. No explosion within our capacity would be capable of anything close to what is depicted here, even if any of the orbital mechanics were feasible.
Brown dwarf stars are not dead stars- they are stars that didn't have enough mass to start stellar ignition( to become a main sequence star).
That's even more absurd than flat Earth theory.
Couldn't she discuss her wedding some other time? Why wait till you and your husband are looking at the sky? Especially since he's doing a study or trying to collect data.
3:30 and the recap could no longer hide the nonsense science.
I'm not a top scientist... but if gravity stopped .... the ship came up, the ocean would too... & the moon is out of whack also effecting the ocean thats E.L.E.
Gravity is based on mass. The charge of the atmosphere is based on the spin and molten nature of earths core
I get that movies/TV don't have to be super accurate in their science but wowzers is this rife with scientific inaccuracies! The moon ever having a circular orbit? Big objects only attract stuff and are not also attracted to stuff? Solid matter from a brown dwarf? Oof
You can tell that none of the writers have ever read any actual science fiction, when the "brown dwarf" behaves like a neutron star and the space helmets are wired to light up the astronaut's face and nothing else.
I thought they said "almost circular". In relation to the stretched orbit it would be
Meteorites have magnetic properties* (Some do)

What in the name of physics is this nonsense?
For the moon to have higher G forces then the earth (aka you get pulled to it), its mass should be much bigger then earth. and water molecules are lighter then a boat, so its odd one goes up and the other does not.
We are not children of one earth...but children of one God
Haha destroying moon would make gravity here on earth even stronger
I was about to say that 😂
It doesn't change much - what happens when the straight line path from you to the moon is directly beneath your feet?
Do not worry people, the moon is to big for anyone to destroy. But this makes for a good movie.
I'm pretty sure we ALL work with gravity. tavi.
also, worst dad ever. dad decides to go on a (very possible) 1 way mission, has young kids, and then grandpa dies like wtf lol
Except for we need the fkn moon😂
13:51 These people had a prophet who can split the moon and cause dooms day😂
How you going to have a light aircraft on the moon when you're going through magnetic interference and it also look like one of them little build-it-yourself😊😂 helicopters.
life is too short,,,, even for hollywood
What how? I'm watching this movie today
Good luck living without the moon
Interesting concept, which would work better if something ALIEN would be the reason for shit happening like that, or maybe magic, whatever, but demonstrated like that, it's gobbledygook, though still kinda nice
Americans believe that the whole world will be clueless while waiting for them to save world. 😆😆😆😆. Anyway, it's hollyweird .
Honestly, if any SF shit ever goes down irl, I'd like to be anywhere BUT the United States lol. At least 200 Million people will die in supermarket looter shootings on the first day. 100 Million will die in pharmacy looter shootings. 50 million will die "defending their homes" and the entire government will vanish into bunkers.
The whole world?? At the same time? What bout the difference in day n night time of different countries??
Wait did the moon blow up like blow up like it had gasoline
so if the moon explodes it takes debris an hour to go... 200,000 miles? ok... lmao i would think it would travel at a tenth of that speed around 20,000 mph
so back in 2009 out of all the countries around the world only USA has the technology to send "man" mission to the moon to safe the whole world yes right lol
Why the moon is acting strange'😢,It was hit by a rock omg
always with the nuclear explosions sort any problem out elon musk mars terraforming answer nuclear explosions it goes on
Yes and always in these type of movies they don't work; an alternative is used

10:09 have to stop. TOO MUCH EXCREMENT.
not goverment but Dark Dwarf Fragment destroy moon lol honestly watch carefully movie first
The scientific errors in this film are so egregious that I couldn't even make it past the four-minute mark in the recap. This is just... staggeringly bad.
Save us from the Star Trek crap at the end. 🤨
did i read correctly Earth lost gravity because the moon is gone?.....that's Kellogg's box science....ahahahaha, if any the moon pulls against Earth's gravity, that's why we have tides, and zero gravity doesn't make things fly, unless if force is applied on the opposite direction things used to be attracted by earth gravity...
It "lost gravity" due to the 2x Earth mass and the magnetic field etc. It's dubious reasoning the way it works, but the moon didn't disappear
@@RennieAsh even so...earth magnetic field does have nothing to do with gravity, earth mag field reversed polarity several times in the past and there werent any Dinos flying without wings.... Lol
Where did the script writer get their science education from, the Flat Earth society?
And wait, this movie is from 2009, why are people still using old fashioned analog CRT televisions?
They still made CRT TVs until 2010.
Many people wouldn't have bought a new TV
Many places still use old equipment

Hii
Literally to the 1% who's reading this, God bless you, and may your dreams come true, stay safe and have a wonderful day.
I wish russia wouldn't launch a nuke at moon. There would be high chance it would fall back on earth.
All electricity and electrical items will be destroyed in 48 hours, so these 2 advising the president decided to go sit down and have a nice dinner in a restaurant? Actually sounds like a lot of bidens cabinet secretaries and advisors😂
hahahahahaha in 48 hours everything with electricity will be disabled.. main character -"lets go to a fancy restaurant and talk about the event".. there would be 100's of millions of people died if gravity changed even for a few minutes. this is why so many movies are just incredibly STUPID.. very very bad writing
And yet would you watch it if everyone just died? lol
@@RennieAsh yes i would. there are MANY movies that do not have HAPPY CRAPPY DISNEY ENDINGS.. deal with it
