The T-90 is basically a T-72 and was in fact designated the T-72BM in it's development phase. It uses the same chassis, diesel engine and gun as the T72, the fire control and targeting system from the T-80 and had reactive armor added to the tank. So it has some more bells and whistles than the T-72 but at it's heart it is still a T-72.
