You totally misunderstood the whole story. Bajie is a naughty person himself, trying to become a playboy but no one loves him until he bumped into the maiden. He oversaw the forbidden affair between those two people so he was punished to become a pig. But the maiden also gave up the celestial life and became a spider just to wait for him. When they recognized each other bajie showed his true monstrous appearance. But the maiden doesn't care, it was unconditional love for all life. And she's been waiting for him for hundreds of years when they met again. The reunion in the pond left a daughter for them both. The reason they couldn't admit each other is because the celestial hunts for anyone who is related to Wukong, if they find out the spider thing, they will be killed too. Bajie kept distance just to protect them. The spider said him foolish before she died because she doesn't care anyway as long as they can be together, but Bajie kept pushing her farther. They understand each other too well and that's why they cannot be together after all. So emotional.
Bajie wanted to be with her but he looked up the sky. He knows heaven would wreck the family, so he chose to walk away to protect them

Agree. From the song, i could tell that it was sadder than it looks (monstrous and lewdness in animation aspect). I looked up the song translation because when i hear it i wanna cry everytime plus the animation. Sweet lyrics. Sure the characters are not perfect (she went little mermaid style and he was a bit lewd n seemed superficial), but they grow (love each other despite looks now irrelevant) and cherish what they have differently (she went for that last meeting and he kept trying to keep her safe).

She gave up her position to be with him. When I was a kid I always thought Bajie was being a pervert to them but...When I grow older than I watched the Chapter 4 cutscene I really felt Bajie and Chang'e 's pain....

This is normal because many people have not watched Journey to the West.
Not a toxic relationship 😅 more like a heavenly “forbidden” love. For the girl( and spider Yaoguai) the details is on her forehead ( the make up pattern). Both of Bajie and the spider Yaoguai are formerly celestial from the heaven realm. Bajie got “punished” and sent to mortal realm, the maid that Bajie bumped into while chasing the actual moon-goddess, is love in first sight with Bajie, and so she falls for Bajie and followed him into the mortal realm, and reincarnated as a spider Yaoguai.

@@台灣仔龍龍龍 这个游戏的翻译本身已经非常好了，只是要理解这个短片讲的故事需要对西游记本身有所了解。熟悉西游记的都知道猪八戒被打下凡间后碰到的女孩是高老庄的翠兰，也知道这个凡间女子本来要与八戒结婚了，结果八戒不小心现出妖怪形态把她吓跑了。在知道这个背景的前提下才能理解八戒的三段爱恋，理解紫蛛儿与八戒这种完全了解且能接受对方一切的爱情。

To clear up some confusion for the chapter 4 cutscene; Yes that cutscene was the backstory of Zhu Baije and the Violet Spider (Chang'e)
Zhu Bajie was originally a Grand Marshall of the celestial court. He admired the white-haired lady (goddess of the moon) and chased after her. He bumps into a maid-in-waiting (Chang'e) and she falls in love with Zhu Bajie. Zhu Bajie finds out that the Jade Emperor is having an affair with the goddess of the moon and the Jade Emperor, in order to hide his affair, banishes Zhu Bajie into the mortal realm. Seeing this, Chang'e willingly gives up her godhood to be with her lover and gets sent to the mortal realm and transformed as a yaogai (spider).
After Zhu Bajie was banished to the mortal realm, he wakes up in Gao Village and sees Gao Cuilan (a different person; she is not Chang’e). He chases after her thinking that she is his lover (Chang'e) but after seeing his true form as a pig, Gao Cuilan gets freaked out and he runs away in tears. This is not Chang'e as she would recognize Zhu Bajie immediately.
Fast forward a bit, to the cave/hot spring scene (this is during the Journey to the West). He comes across some spider yaoguais taking a bath. He turns into a catfish so he can get a better look at the ladies (yes, in the novel he is kind of a pervert). He swims towards the spider lady (Chang'e) who immediately recognizes the catfish as Zhu Bajie. The two reunite as lovers, however the Jade Emperor has decreed that their love always be destined to end in heartbreak (Zhu Bajie was sentenced to 1,000 lifetimes of love tragedies).
This is confusing me, like isn't Chang'e the goddess of the moon?
@@abiel11261 "Chang'e" roughly translates to Moon Maiden, its not perfectly clear but there are varied interpretations on who is who; The Violet Spider is either a regular maid in the court or a Moon Maiden. Especially for the Jade Rabbit and Sun Crow; they can be interpreted as Taiyin goddess and the Jade Emperor having the affair.
And Bajie chose to stay away from his loved and his daughter but a big big sigh, protect them trouble from the Court .

I don't know why people always get this idea that the guy having affair is jade emperor while it clearly it isn't, jade emperor is an older dude and that guy in the animation look way too young. The girl with the white 2 bunny ears hairstyle is jade rabbit 月玉兔 and the guy is sun bird 日金鸟, is it also clearly stated that who those two were in the game archive if you have the time to read through everything... another important detail if you missed it, while bajie is chasing the jade rabbit, you can clearly see she is hopping instead of running
the reason why she chose to be a spider is because the pronunciation of spider is 蛛 (zhu). It also sounds like 猪 (zhu) pig. She heard he was banished to the mortal realm and turned into zhu so she wants to become a spider to be with him but he was actually a pig.
And 1 more thing. The spider represents the women (the wife) staying at home weaving and the pig with the rake he was holding represents a man (the husband) outside farming for his family.

Zhu uses a rake in the actual Journey to the west story(And the game) as both a tool and a weapon, so I don't think its meant to be making any kind of point about husband and wife, though one can make it I suppose.

He was strong, skilled in combat, and had a high-ranking position in heaven. However, Zhu Bajie's downfall came from his inability to control his earthly desires, especially his lust.
One day, after drinking too much wine at a heavenly banquet, Zhu Bajie made inappropriate advances toward the Goddess of the Moon, Chang'e. As punishment for this transgression, he was banished from heaven and reincarnated on Earth. However, a mistake occurred during his reincarnation, and instead of becoming a human, Zhu Bajie was reborn as a part-man, part-pig creature. His human form retained a pig’s face, appetite, and laziness, which are central to his character throughout the novel.
After his banishment, Zhu Bajie lived in the mortal world as a bandit and took on a grotesque and gluttonous persona. He later ended up in Gao Village. Throughout the journey, Zhu Bajie, like the other disciples, learns important lessons about patience, sacrifice, and self-control. Although he frequently fails in his attempts to better himself, his presence contributes to the overall success of the mission.

The man lying on the ground blowing flower petals at the beginning of the animation represents Zhu Bajie’s original form. In the celestial realm, Zhu Bajie held the prestigious position of Grand Marshal of the Galactic Navy, with the title "Marshal Tianpeng." He was known for his great strength and exceptional combat abilities, holding a very high status.
In fact, the characters in Journey to the West are symbolic representations of different aspects of human nature. Zhu Bajie is a metaphor for eight human vices, which later became reflected in his name "Bajie," given by his master, Tang Sanzang, during their pilgrimage. The name "Bajie" means “Eight Precepts,” referring to the eight Buddhist rules he must follow. One of these precepts is to abstain from lust.
As Marshal Tianpeng, Zhu Bajie had a natural tendency toward lust and could not resist the beauty of women in the celestial realm. He once pursued a white-haired woman, who in Chinese mythology is the Moon Goddess, Taiyin Xingjun. However, she was not interested in him. Due to his position, Marshal Tianpeng was forbidden from harboring improper desires for others, but his lustful nature eventually led to his punishment. He was banished to the mortal world, where he became an ordinary person.
(One version of Chinese mythology suggests that many gods were originally humans who ascended to divinity through their deeds or spiritual enlightenment. However, despite being a high-ranking marshal, Tianpeng forgot his divine duties because of his emotions.)
Ultimately, Marshal Tianpeng’s negligence and romantic interest in Taiyin Xingjun (or in another version of Journey to the West, his harassment of Chang’e) led to his downfall. In the game, while chasing Taiyin Xingjun, Tianpeng accidentally collided with Violet Spider, who originally had the name Zizhu'er (Purple Pearl) in the celestial realm. There are many theories regarding Zizhu'er’s role in the celestial realm. Some say she was an attendant of Taiyin Xingjun, who some believe to be Chang’e, while others suggest that Chang’e is a title rather than a specific individual. Upon being bumped into by Tianpeng, Zizhu'er fell in love with him.
In the game, Tianpeng caught Taiyin Xingjun with another male god, and as a result of neglecting his duties, Tianpeng was punished, banished to the mortal world, and turned into a pig (the word “pig” is pronounced “zhū” in Chinese, which ties into another minor story involving Chang’e later).
Zizhu'er, upon learning that Tianpeng was punished and turned into a "pig" (zhū), misheard it as "spider" (zhīzhū in Chinese, which sounds similar). This misunderstanding led her to voluntarily give up her immortality and descend to the mortal world, where she chose to become a spider in hopes of reuniting with Tianpeng.
While in the mortal world, Tianpeng, now known as Bajie, encountered Gao Cuilan in Gao Village. He mistakenly thought Gao Cuilan was Zizhu'er, the celestial being he had bumped into in the heavenly realm. This is reflected in the game when Violet Spider, before her death, says, "You haven't changed a bit... you fool," illustrating how Bajie foolishly mistook Gao Cuilan for her.
Later in the game, while Violet Spider was bathing, Bajie (now transformed into a pig) discovered her but didn’t recognize her at first. He even turned into a fish to sneak closer. When Violet Spider saw him, she immediately recognized him as the former Marshal Tianpeng. When they finally reunited, Violet Spider became pregnant, and the little girl in the game is revealed to be their daughter.
On her deathbed, Violet Spider called Bajie foolish because she had been willing to give up everything and waited so long, just to be with him. However, Bajie still refused to acknowledge her or their daughter. Bajie’s refusal came from the belief that those connected to the celestial world always meet tragic fates, with families often destroyed (as illustrated by the fate of the Bull Demon King’s family). Thus, Bajie held back from recognizing them. When he looked up at the sky, it could have been to hold back his tears or to curse the heavens.
The game’s background song, "Listen Not," ends with the following lyrics:
Male voice: "Paths then don’t look back."
Female voice: "Paths then please look back."
These lines represent the final emotions of Bajie and Violet Spider, respectively.
She was immortal. But she want to meet Bajie again, so she fall into human world ... as a spider (yaoguai). That's something out of control.
She love him no matter what form she is, but she will eat him as a spider. "Life sucks."
Her destiny was made to suffer like this.
Some love fade after months. But some love last for hundred years like her love. Some day, she will overcome this motion, then she will be back to immortal form. That's logic of this world.
For those confused Chang’e into moon goddess, here is what you need to know on Taoism. Moon goddess named TaiYin, the great Yin, is a real high rank deity among the celestial court. Sometimes she was to be pointed as the same deity of XiWangMu, the mother of gods.
Chang’e on the other hand was initially HouYi’s wife, a hero shot down 8 out 9 suns to save mankind. She stole the potion of immorality took too much of it got flow to the moon. And guess who gave the potion to her husband at the first place? The moon goddess!! So the moon good and Chang’e are NOT the same person. Also Chang’e later was refer the maids of the moon goddess.
Most people missed the context of Violet spider proposing she'd eat Baijie after they mate. In some species of Spiders the female Spider really does eat the male after they mate. For this love affair we won't know that for sure but they love each other, Baijie is just being stubborn and refuses to accept his family in fear of their safety.
Don't take it as comedy, the little girl is belong to their daughter, bajie cannot officially recognize her as his daughter since the girl might receive punishment frpm the celestial court. He had no choice but to abondom her.

if you haven't watched Pilgrimage to the West, so it's difficult to understand this part of the plot, especially the theme of unrequited love and the hatred that arises from love. It feels hard to relate to.
You don't need to have read Journey to the West. The detailed introduction of each character is clearly written in the "journal".

Nah she would never eat or harm Bajie. Spider lady as a monster has been consuming men to extend her life so she can meet Bajie again. All she want is reunion so there's zero reason to harm her lover. If she reincarnates and keeps her memory she will probably do the same to meet Bajie again.

Bajie is chasing women... in heaven he is smitten by a goddess and disregards the girl/spirit/entity at his level... he gets punished and sent to Earth, either for witnessing what the goddess was doing or for his hubris. On Earth he still chases women so he gets turned into a pig... later on he runs into the same girl from heaven... they fall in love... but because of who he's friends with he has to leave.
(also the game itself explains he killed the other spiders and spared her because he played with her in the water... so no need to read Journey to the West to piece it together, the game just added the bit where they're star crossed lovers hence BLACK MYTH)
Heh, she never figured out that Bajie and the Spider were lovers! They met, they fell in-love, they were broken up, and they found each other again in the pond and reveal the true self to each other. A simple and an elegant story.
