    Keep it up bro ✌️

You deserve more subs, my man! I’m only like 5 minutes into this video but subbed. I found my love for rogues during quarantine, and there’s no going back now! Currently LOVING Gordian Quest, though it’s much much lighter on the rogue aspects than the ones I typically play.

SkipMcLazy You’re welcome. It’s more heavily an RPG deck builder with permadeath (or you can turn permadeath off) where runs are.... I’m not even sure how long. I’m 5 hours in and might be getting towards the end of the run I think. So different than Monster Train or StS, but still a gem. On sale for $15 on steam currently.

I've been playing and enjoying "Enter the Gungeon" since it was a freebie during Sony's Play-At-Home thing during the COVID-19 pandemic, getting in a run here and there to pass the time. And I've heard the terms "Roguelike" and "Roguelite" for years, but until the past two months or so, I didn't give them any serious consideration, being very comfortable and set in my ways, playing mainly RPGs, Shooters, and Turn-Based/Real-Time Strategy games, occasionally dipping my toe into other genres. Then I watched a couple of videos about Roguelikes/lites and picked up "Dead Cells," "The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth," and "Risk of Rain 2" - they were the ones mentioned that seemed interesting enough to be fun little diversions every once in a while. Man, oh man, I didn't realize how much they'd affect me and really grab hold. So now, another dozen or so games later, I'm pretty well hooked on this stuff, devouring as much information as I can and playing as many of these wonderful little bastards as I can afford. Fortunately, most are fairly cheap at full price and there are always a ton of them dirt-cheap in every PlayStation sale. I'm almost 41 years old and never would have guessed I'd find something about video games that feels so fresh and brand-new. I have yet to really get deep into the card-based type, and I've found a couple that were real stinkers, but by-and-large they've been damn consistent in their ability to engage me. I'm quite fond of "Dead Cells" and "The Binding of Isaac" has quickly become one of my all-time most memorable games. This journey has reminded me so much of my earliest experiences with video games, way back in the late 80s, when every new game I played was a wonder, even the total shit-bombs. I'll get stuff like "Elden Ring," "XCOM 2," and "Death Standing" back in my gaming rotation eventually, but from now on, some of these will be there, too, and it's all thanks to stumbling across content like this. Thank you!

I enjoy the tension that permadeath brings. In most games, if you fail/die you just load up and try again until you succeed.

Personally I love the loop and as a older gamer I think starting from the beginning takes me back to when every game was that way

West of dead, dead cells, curse of the dead gods, fury unleashed.
I've been playing these because I'm tired of huge open worlds spending more time on horseback or climbing a cliff to get to where I'm going.
Rogue likes puts you in action and keeps you there

i feel like hades did a great job with its implementation of upgrades because they do help a lot to beat the game but can be done with out them plus it helps a lot that the game has the pact of punishments

well the only rogulite/rogulike i finished is dead cells xD
and it is the first one i played a lot
and i finished the game on 5BC and still see myself as a noob xD
well at least i know i got better because after finishing 1BC (or before it idk) i made a fresh file to try and finish 0BC no death fresh file and it worked xD
but still my wining 0BC run was the second run i started investing in 1 scroll type so yeah the first one i think i reached the high peak castle xD
(also it was the first one that i don't really focus only on timed doors esspicially when i knew that the 30 door in the first area and the 60 in the others are no hit doors not timed xD i knew that after finishing the first area in less than 30 seconds)
+ i got one no hit on the conciirge (idk how to type his name) and it was after my first 5BC win (i think it was like a couple of days ago idk the actual first one i did a save cheat but yeah let's not talk about that xD (and that helped me learn more about the boss and the secret area so let's also not talk about that xD))

100% agreed. I'm a dad with very little free time and while I do enjoy a good challenging game and the elation experienced from conquering a tough puzzle or battle, there are many times when I want to just play games as a form of entertainment. Do you know what's not entertaining to me? The hair pulling frustration that comes with every roguelike. It wasn't a big deal a few years ago but as of 2022, it seems like every cool new game release is a roguelike/roguelite. So basically, I have to miss out on cool @$$ sh¡t unless I want to do some hardcore gaming. And that blows.

I hate games where you can grind to make it easier. I'm not sure I like the terms internal and external progression. Skill sounds like internal progression to me because it's internal to you. It's not some external, arbitrary thing that keeps making the game easier. This is semantics I suppose.

Is your game really short? Not creative enough to make a game be interesting for a long time? Well here at roguelike we're here to help. Using our cheap method of design we ramp up the difficultly and randomly kill you for no reason. Doing so we trick gamers into thinking they are being challenged and shame them into not admitting how annoyed they are. So you can now claim you have a long lasting addictive game instead of a cheap gimmick.
