The key to beating the running man is to start a race with him and then just forget about the race. He'll just wait in Kokiri woods forever and maybe go insane thinking you already beat him there since you take so long showing up.
You can't win the race because it's not actually a race. The running man will just automatically spawn in each location once you hit certain locational triggers
+leftyfourguns This was debunked years ago. There is no way to beat the running man. Nintendo even came out and said it themselves. People even hacked the game to switch the clock down to 0.1 seconds combined with a bunch of speed hacks to get link back to the Forest before that one second even passed and it still didn't work. You're not supposed to beat him.
It's actually possible to get a time of 0:00 without any cheating devices. If you play a song on the ocarina, it will then be possible to move a little bit before the timer will start ticking. By repeating this several hundred times, can't remember the amount, you are able to get a time of 0:00 legit. The same method can also be used to get a time of 0 against Dampé.
Because people are nostalgic to the old days when most people did not know anything about checking a games code so games could be filled with fun mysterys.

For anyone reluctant to waste 10 minutes of their lives, let me sum up this video for you. Question: Is it possible to beat the Running Man? Answer: No.
I FUCKING KNOW. I have the 3ds version of OoT but I never managed to beat the running man. Ive managed to beat my records like 2-3 times but no matter how fast and how hard I try I cant fucking beat his ass.
Whenever I present at conventions on the topic of Nintendo 64 mysteries, this is a topic that most certainly comes up. The Temple of Light and Sky Temple always fascinated me as a kid too, so it's cool to see other content creators carrying on their legacy. Great video and analysis!
If you enjoyed this, you should look up "Pop Fiction" on RUclips. This show is kind of a spiritual successor to Pop Fiction and there are a lot of episodes with a similar style to this one.
By far the best video series I have seen on youtube, and a personal favorite of mine. Thank you for continuing these and I look forward to seeing many many more in the future!
....I swear I beat him when I was a kid. But I also swear there was a cutscene with the grandmother in Majora's mask racing around Termina Field. Also another darker cutscene of Anju and her family basically waiting for death after the final day. Yet after replaying it countless times as an adult and searching around the internet, I can't find a damn thing. My only conclusion; 'twas all a dream. Or alternate reality. *shrug*
Last Breath if you get to the second day of the anju/kafei quest she tells her mom shes going to wait for him and her family leaves her behind. You can listen through the wall and it cuts to a cut scene. If you show up on the third day at romani ranch without interfering in the anju/kafei quest anju and her family are basically waiting for death there
I remember beating him when I was a kid too. I even received the mythic Light Boots that supposedly let you walk/run faster. Albeit, only slightly faster. I haven't tried this race since, but maybe I should. Maybe I was dreaming too.
I also remember a scene in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark with the fire going by Indy and Marion's side while the camera pans away from the ark to the couple. I have rewatched the movie several times and I never saw it again.
Weird I have memories of beating him as a kid too.. I remember him saying something like he couldn't believe it.. don't remember what he gave you though... but it seems that never happens... weird. I have the same memories as you do, Last Breath.. so strange...

OH MY GOODNESS Sorry, I thought you guys dissapeared. This is basically a new pop fic- ooh nevermind. I'll share this to my friends who used to watch this show.
This was one of several parts of this game that a player's guide I got referred to as "Secrets you thought were hot, but they were not". Others included the coin arrow in Gerudo Valley (pointing to the wall, which was not bombable - in other words, nothing) and the long fire pit in Goron City (with merely business scrubs on the other side).
Why was your police uniform different Leon hey? and why were you wearing it already? there's a mystery for you, were you a stripper cop? On your way to a hen party in Racoon City hey? lied to clairee because she's hot? I mean she's no Jill but I don't blame ya!
maaaan i just discovered this channel and it gave me chills because i watched Pop Fiction on GameScrew when i was much younger ALL. THE. TIME. every single episode (I think) and loving it because it was Mythbusters, but with gaming!
Befor watching the video, me and my cousins used to love playing oot and one of our favorite things to do, was look up secrets online, (the early online with lots of unvarified stuff) and we read that if you could beat this guy in the race, he would give you the extra long shot, an upgraded hookshot. We tried for a whole day trying to beat him and finally had an idea. There was a glitch where you could force epona into the timt, and when you left the tent you would instantly be on epona. We tried for another whole day trying to beat him by cutting time down with the epona glitch until we finally threw in the towel.
I remember beating him, but can't remember how exacly... on the original game for the n64... it was something simple though I'm sure.... or maybe Mandela effect? XD
zelldot you must have remembered wrong maybe you read a line of text wrong because there is no code for him to lose I am not calling you a liar you just may have misinterpreted it
Maksym Urbański pretty much a mind fuck. Your memory is tricked into thinking something you thought to be so obviously is one way rather than another. Like how so many people truly believe Nelson Mandela died in prison, when actually he was released and was president of South Africa for years. That’s wear the ME theory kind of started and outlined debates like the children’s book and show.. The BerenstEin Bears, or is it actually the BerenstAin Bears.. or with the show Sex And The City.. or is it Sex IN the City? Ir is widely said that Forrest Gump said “Life is like a box of Chocolates,” but then I’m pretty sure it was said “Life WAS like a box of chocolates”... or one of my favorites is does the Monopoly Man really wear a monocle or not!? Those are some examples of the Mandela Effect.
Hey, so I know its a long shot and I have no clue how much you guys want to put into this...but I live in Japan and know a place that keeps a record of old Famitsu magazines. If there is any interest in getting an original copy of the interview with Miyamoto I could look for it this weekend.
I managed to pick up an old Famitsu magazine that came out about a month after OoC came out in Japan. On the cover it advertised an interview with Miyamoto but I didn't see anything about the running man. The search continues! The problem is the issues are sealed so I can't see inside until I buy it. :(
Ocarina of Time is easy without guides, unless you're trying to get 100% of the items. Majora's Mask on the other hand, I got stuck in the showhead Temple
Ive only played oot, tp, and botw. And twilight princess was the only one i didn't use a guide on. But i also didn't beat the game either. But for me botw has got to be the hardest one ive played out of the three. And oot coming 2nd
*Pop Fiction is back!* :'D I've been a fan of you guys since the 1st episode and have been hoping to see its return. Didn't have Internet back then, but South Africa's NAG magazine came with a DVD that included Pop Fiction episodes. ´ ‿`
Glad to see that Pop-Fiction's mission to prove myths fact or fiction continues on. I passed many an afternoon viewing the findings and even using a number of their methods myself.
Back in the days of AoL, I used to tell people that they needed to come from behind him by using a warp to the Lost Woods from either Zora's River or Goron City. The river warp was easier because of the bean. You also had to get there in less time than any previous attempt, meaning that if you got there quickly on that save file the normal way already, you could lock yourself out of it. Of course, I was lying... I have no idea if anyone ever attempted it.
Another piece of evidence that RustySporks is full of shit which is not mentioned in this video. He says in order to beat the running man, you have to go back to being a child, go to the bridge in the Lost Woods, and wait for seven in-game years until Link gradually becomes and adult, which is one week in real time. However there is one small problem: Time stands still when you are on the bridge in the Lost Woods. lol.
I absolutely adore this series and it's predecesor. But I do have one piece of 'safety' critisism. Your scene transisions (the random flash of green and red) may trigger epilepsy in sufferers. I don't suffer from that myself, but I did find the transitions uncomfortable to look at. The content in the vid is 100% awesome; consise and solid as always. Just may want to change or adjust those scene transitions. Keep it up, guys.
The key to beating the running man is to start a race with him and then just forget about the race. He'll just wait in Kokiri woods forever and maybe go insane thinking you already beat him there since you take so long showing up.

Holy shit I just came across this
Pop fiction is back, my childhood is back
Thank you RUclips for giving me this recommendation
I remember beating him, but can't remember how exacly... on the original game for the n64... it was something simple though I'm sure.... or maybe Mandela effect? XD
zelldot you must have remembered wrong maybe you read a line of text wrong because there is no code for him to lose I am not calling you a liar you just may have misinterpreted it
zelldot I swear the same.. I think it is Mandela effect XD
What it was before the ME if you beat him he just said you have some kind of killer instinct and never gave you a reward. It was still pretty lame.
You're not the only when! I figured out how to beat him when I was like 10 with a little practice!
Its good to have found one of my favorite shows again. I missed you.
Hey, so I know its a long shot and I have no clue how much you guys want to put into this...but I live in Japan and know a place that keeps a record of old Famitsu magazines. If there is any interest in getting an original copy of the interview with Miyamoto I could look for it this weekend.
Omggggg do it
Do it!
Any luck yet?
I managed to pick up an old Famitsu magazine that came out about a month after OoC came out in Japan. On the cover it advertised an interview with Miyamoto but I didn't see anything about the running man. The search continues! The problem is the issues are sealed so I can't see inside until I buy it. :(
Yes! I'm so glad you guys are doing Pop Fi...this brand new show for the first time ever. I love it! Keep it up, Allies!
Ocarina of time still impossible to beat without a guide! You'd think that when you grew up that you could solve the puzzles but fuck no
Ocarina of Time is easy without guides, unless you're trying to get 100% of the items. Majora's Mask on the other hand, I got stuck in the showhead Temple
it's hard to 100% i would agree but just beating it no.
Ive only played oot, tp, and botw. And twilight princess was the only one i didn't use a guide on. But i also didn't beat the game either. But for me botw has got to be the hardest one ive played out of the three. And oot coming 2nd
I love this guy's work
*Pop Fiction is back!* :'D
I've been a fan of you guys since the 1st episode and have been hoping to see its return.
Didn't have Internet back then, but South Africa's NAG magazine came with a DVD that included Pop Fiction episodes. ´ ‿`
+Easy Allies Welcome back, guys! =D
Man, have I missed this series.
The NAG DVDs that came with 4 episodes were a treat. =:)
YES! tbh I almost did a reboot of pop fiction myself, but didn't have the resources so I am glad someone did, it was one of my favorite shows
Is it weird that missed your voice?
Glad to see that Pop Fiction lives.
Glad to see that Pop-Fiction's mission to prove myths fact or fiction continues on. I passed many an afternoon viewing the findings and even using a number of their methods myself.
This is from the same Damiani that was talking about how no Zelda had been as great as zelda 2 a couple days ago?
It's Daminai bro
He was just trolling like always :D
Clearly he was joking about Zelda 2. But I think he was being honest in saying that Zelda 2 is an amazing game, and I totally agree.
He said combat wise was the most challenging.
He's always prefered the 2d zeldas over the 3d ones. But he still knows his $hit.
As someone who absolutely loved Pop-Fiction, I'm very happy to have just discovered this series! Great job, guys!
Fuck yeah, I remembered when GT went down, Pop fiction went down with it. I was so disappointment.
Can you maybe add a number to the title? Game Sleuth #1 etc, makes it easier to track and see if I ever miss something. :)
I'm glad you guys are back
Another piece of evidence that RustySporks is full of shit which is not mentioned in this video. He says in order to beat the running man, you have to go back to being a child, go to the bridge in the Lost Woods, and wait for seven in-game years until Link gradually becomes and adult, which is one week in real time. However there is one small problem: Time stands still when you are on the bridge in the Lost Woods. lol.
Seeing this coming back makes me SO HAPPY!
My favorite show is back!! Thanks EZA!!!
What if you... you know.... beat him. Like, with your fists xD
