So if I wanted to start buying homes for sale on sites like Zillow do I need to have a real estate license??

No, You could just reach out to a realtor or the listing agent. If you wanted to save the buyers commission, then yes…you should get a license. But, I haven’t found that to be necessary yet.

​@@justricca2028 A good way to think about it is you don't need a real estate license to do anything real estate related concerning *your own money and personal property*. So you don't need a license to buy, sell, and flip if they are all your personal property.
You need a real estate license to do anything real estate related *for other people* and also *get paid for it*.
That's a super simplification of it. But at this stage, if you're asking those questions, I would highly, highly recommend working with an agent or an experienced investor (preferably someone who's both). Keep in mind that the intricacies differ depending on which state you're dealing with also.
