I wonder if it’s the whole color correcting/color theory thing but I feel like Hope’s makeup looked “better” with the best selling because of the green lighting versus the red lighting emphasizing her skin tone more? I know green concealer/primer cancels red out so I was wondering if that’s playing a part in this whole lighting situation.
oooh I did notice it looked better with the green but I forgot that green can cancel out red, that's a good point
Same, I thought the lighting made a huge difference
The red was really bothering me because even without makeup she looked so much more red than I think she actually is.
Was gonna come here to say this! I wonder how the low rated would look with the green background lights.
I agree bro
Can I just say how much I appreciate you showing your skin without makeup! ❤ It's refreshing to see makeup content with someone who's skin isn't completely clear. Love you Hope!
i agree!! i struggle with textured skin & bad acne & everytime i see someone with makeup they always have perfect skin
Absolutely. 🙏 Naturally gorgeous 🥰💖
Yessssss!!! It makes me feel seen and also actually see how well the makeup products work on textured skin!!!
Ya same
i agree
I love that you are willing to show your natural skin, especially when you are having issues like acne. As for my makeup usage, I am not big on heavy foundation, so I like powder foundation like Bare Minerals. I really love doing the eye makeup and lips and I really like Colorpop makeup. I can't afford really expensive makeup and I am a little obsessed with eye makeup and lip makeup. Again Colorpop really is my go to.
For some reason I LOVED the worst selling eye makeup look. It just looks so unique and it's nice to see some different colours other than neutrals 💖
Fashion Fair was founded in the 70’s. It was one of the first black owned make up brands. The only brand I remember growing up for black women.
Yesss! It’s was before I was born. A solid brand. I like the huda brand also
I was just coming on to say that. It was probably the only brand for black women here in the UK in the 80's. My friend wore it all the time because it was highly pigmented and flattered her skin. I'm as white as a corpse and she used it on me once and I looked like an anemic clown 😅.
lol. It was created created in 1973 by Eunice W. Johnson who also created the Ebony’s fashion fair show. The show had women of many different shades and she decided to create a line to cater to that. She was married to Ebony magazine owner. Amazing right! 🥰 love you HopScope
Yep. My mom used it, then my sister used it then I used it. Great products.
Yeah it’s not new at all. My mom wore it in the 90s.
Okay so Hope, love you girl; the idea to do a green vs red colour scheme is adorable. However, I think it's kind of off-putting to have different lighting from one section to the other. I feel like it makes it hard for us to get a fair comparison, personally.
No kidding. When she was using the Tarte foundation, I was really disappointed! She looked orange in it because everything on and around her was warm color tones. Neutral lighting and clothing would really show a huge difference between them all. I’m a Tarte girl, so I was just a bit disappointed in that
@@robynspelts5688 Not to mention the tarte foundation was actually a tint 😅
Yep and the red on the desk reflecting onto her face 👎🏼 such a shame
This would be a much more fair competition/ comparison if the lighting, background, and clothing were all neutral.
I was just thinking that
My fav makeup
Primer - not sure
Foundation - bb garnier? Tinted moisturiser foundation thingy lol x
Concealer - NYX can’t stop won’t stop
Blush - pixi on the glow blush (I use shade fleur on my PALE skin)
Brows - benefit 24hr brow setter gel
Highlighter - (I dont use highlighter on my cheeks I use it in the corners of my eyes etc x) NYX jumbo stick in white
Mascara - NYX on the rise volume lift mascara
Lip gloss - revoloution tasty watermelon
Lip balm - rosy Vaseline
Lip stick - revoloution shade baby (I believe its discontinued)
Lip oil - Gisou or elf lip glow oil
Tysm for reading lol x
Total 998 $ ! 😮
The Guerlain Terracotta bronzer is an absolute french must have. It came out in 1984 ! Our mothers already had 1 in their purse.
3:12 Maracuja means passion fruit !
Favorites are Lancôme Fenty Chanel Clarins Huda and Sephora collection
😮
I still have the Guerlain my mom used to use! I used it as blush when I wore makeup. I just have a little crumbs now and they definitely changed the formula since then and it is not as good.
I was shocked that hope didn't know guerlain! Maybe it's a Europe thing (hi from the Netherlands ❤)
For another comparison video, I think it would better to keep the background, table and clothes more similar. I love the idea of the red vs green but I feel like it actually impacted the appearance of the makeup as the red reflected so strongly onto your skin.
*edited to add that the editing in this video is 🤩
This so much. This is when checking colour theory before using coloured lights is important too. The red definitely made the reds in her skin pop so much more and the green calms down red tones so the comparisons were skewed from the start. Even just a final comparison with a nice white light would have helped.
Great video otherwise and super fun to watch.
THIS! from the second I saw the red themed part i noticed how different she looked without makeup. couldn't ignore that for the rest of the video...
I thought I was the only one who noticed
me thinking the same as soon as i saw that colours changed
Yes esp the red tabletop
I would love to see this same concept, but with drugstore makeup! Maybe best vs worst at Walmart, Target, CVS, etc!
Ooooo love this idea!!!
Or at ulta
Yas we should do it
@@hopescope or even best-rated at Ulta vs best-rated at Sephora.
Or best vs worst from where ever, but she doesn't know which is the best product and which is the worst. For example, concealer and she gives her opinion, and then they reveal which one was the best, and which one was the worst. that way, there's no bias. Not that Hope is! I'm just curious ❤
Why is nobody talking about the fact that Hope didnt do half worst seller and half best seller she made two clips red worst seller , and green best seller she prefers putting more time and effort to entertain us and for a better watching experiance even if half and half is easier
Thats Why We Love This Hopescope ❤
ok does any one else agree that her outfits SLAYYYYED today? all her looks made her look even more like the queen she is!
No. That green shirt is terrible. It looks so cheap.
I love it❤
Love you Hope!!!! Top notch!!!😊

Just so you know, fashion fair was a black owned brand that started for Black models who did not have options when they went to modeling shoots so yeah it is intended for darker skin tones, thank you for trying the products!
I LOVEDDDD how she put the product on the bottom of the videos so if we like the product she has on if you click the bottom of the product it will take you right to the website, it’s such a great idea!!!
❤❤❤
Okayy and also she really did slay those outfits tho for the red and the green, hope I love you so much and you are soo pretty!!❤❤❤
OO Try best vs worst selling ulta?? I love thiss
yesss she should!
Yeah my first thought, I’m an ulta girl
YESSSS❤🎉😊
Yes I just looked at this and said the same thing
SHE HEARTED
I love watching your videos they are so fun! I wanted to let you know that Fashion Fair was founded in 1973 for women of color and was one of the only options we had for a long time. My Mom and Grandma used them and I did too. Like a lot of brands that were created for those of us with with deeper skin tones back then, retailers just didn't make the brand a priority. A Black business duo actually bought the brand at a bankruptcy sale a while back and they are helping re-brand and bring it back. It's like the OG Fenty and the products are amazing! Glad you gave them a try! 😊
Loved this little fact!!! Thank you!!
This is so interesting!! Thank you for this info! They are doing a GREAT job! I was so impressed with the products I did try :)
There is a documentary on HBOMax about its history.
Came running to the comments to write this exact thing lol. Remember playing in my mother's pink containers of makeup from them 😻
I'm fish-belly white, but my Black friends and coworkers used FF back in the day. ❤
I love how you get straight to the video without much rambling! I love love your vibe and your channel ❤
Oh my gosh can I just say that I also love how you look bare faced? I've been watching for a while and only noticed how pretty your eye color is today! Of course, go with whatever look you prefer, you are beautiful either way!
The Guerlain terracota bronzer is one of the oldest bronzers, when bronzer wasn't even a thing (compared to nowadays, of course) 😊 maybe that's why is in last, people like to try new things.
Hearing the Guerlain name reminded me that I forgot to buy my mom a Mothers day present!! I hope I can get some Shalimar real quick 😂
They went “viral” in the 90s for their Meteorites highlighter … globes? I wanted them so badly.

When you see a Hope post there is no other option than to drop what you’re doing and watch it!! I think the subscribers’ favorite makeup video is such a good idea and I would love to see it. My favorite products are the tower 28 concealer and rare beauty mascara
Love you Hope 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hey Hope! I watch you just about every Saturday once you post and binge watch you because you brighten up my weekends. As an African American woman in her (almost) 50s, Fashion Fair was created for African American women back in the 70s who had trouble finding makeup and makeup shades that ranged from lighter skinned to darker skinned women. I'm so glad that you recognized right away that the blush would be better on darker skinned tones! Great insight! Although Fashion Fair isn't sold at a lot of department stores anymore, I appreciated the fact that you chose to highlight some products (even though they were in the "worst seller" list 😢) and I hope that those women who are of color can probably bring some light to the brand again and get it back onto the "best sellers" list 😉 Keep on doing what you do and continue bringing great content to the masses! ❤
Thank you for being so kind while giving more information/educating on this! I’m so glad to hear they were able to make a come back!
I dont think she should have called it the "worst" sellers because it implies there's something wrong with these products when it simply means fewer people purchased those than the "best sellers". It has nothing to do with the quality of the products.
My 9 year old daughter shouts, ‘Hope posted’ - cue couch snuggles and bonding while we watch our joint favorite.
thats so adorable 😭❤️
That is so cute❤❤😊

I'm 9 years old and I also like hope
That is so cute! I can't stand it ❤
I just love you so much, your confidence shines through and makes you gorgeous regardless of whatever is happening with your skin. Thank you for being so real.
my fav makeup products of all time are the summer fridays lip butter balm in the shade brown sugar, benefit cosmetics’s benetint, and the urban decay 24/7 inks liquid eyeliner in the shade zero! love ur vids hope!!
I remember my mom wearing Fashion Fair in the late 70’s. I think it catered to ethnic skin tones, that’s why it didn’t really match yours. Loved the reviews ❤
Guerlain Bronzer has been my go-to for 8 years. It looks so nice and natural for my fair skin. Not too red and not too ashy.
8:38 Fashion Fair was super popular in the 70s and 80s as a black owned brand that specialized in shades for black women. (The chocolate raspberry and mahogany lipsticks were favorites). It was founded by the Johnson family who published Ebony and Jet Magazines. Fashion Fair has since been rebirthed.
I love you so much hope and you inspire me so much especially with admitting you have acne and not using a filter
Loved that Patrick Ta blush on you! As for our favorite makeup products, I have been using Essence Super Precise Eyeliner for YEARS. The best liquid liner I've found.
The Patrick Ta blush is stunning ❤ Do you know which colour she used?? 🙏
I love how real you are, especially in being open about your experiences with your skin and (going way back, to when you moved away from workout wear reviews) body changes. You may have already looked into it, but your skin looks an awful lot like mine used to. I thought I was having acne issues, tried different face washes, etc, until I saw a dermatologist about it and it wasn’t acne at all. Turns out it was rosacea and what I needed was a prescription cream. Now I just need a tiny amount of the prescription rubbed in each morning, my skin is completely clear, & I can use any other products I want without my skin flaring up. I know mine was also pretty uncomfortable (products burned, the pimples were sore, it was often dry & itchy), so wanted to just mention it so others might benefit.
I noticed the same thing on her cheeks and my conclusions were that it looks like she has rosacea also.
I think it’s important to remember bestselling isn’t highest rated, so if something has a lot of hype it’ll be bestselling. Brands wouldn’t need to pay Sephora to be on the list, they pay influencers to hype the product and get there organically.
Also, keep in mind Sephora collection items are comparably cheap and often gave higher discounts so it’s not surprising they would have multiple bestsellers.
Yes this! I don’t see anyone mentioned this, the video was fun but kinda pointless as it was “misleading” not by hope but the way “best selling” and “worst selling” is regarded as some sort of prove that something is good or bad.. the review will actually tell you if it’s good or not which should be the main focus..
@@burppp. Agreed. Like it’s a cute video but doesn’t exactly represent what what most people think it does
Seconded
I Love this! It helps me figure out what is trendy!!!!
i have been watching your videos for quiet a while now and i think they are so engaging and unique!!!! it is hard to find genuine creators nowadays! love you hope!
Like others, I'm wondering how much the lighting, colors, etc. influenced how the makeup looked. Thank you for showing your face with no makeup, and especially how you layer it! I'm a complete dunce when it comes to foundation and all that entails, so this was a great lesson! Also false eyelashes! I've been wanting to take the plunge and you've convinced me! Great video!
One of my favorite brands is actually Artdeco, but they are a german brand so a lot of people outside of Germany probably don't know about it. My favorite is one of their foundations as it's made for oily skin and it's oil-free. Their eyeshadows are also really beautiful! They sell empty palettes so you can just go and buy the shades you like and put them inside those empty palettes. Their blushes and bronzers are amazing too. They also sell a lot of refillable products for less waste, most notable is probably their refillable mascara and lipsticks!
I love their eyeshadows!
Hmm, going to check online. Curious now. Essence and Catrice are major sellers here. I'm in The Netherlands, but also order my perfume often w/ you guys as Germany is way cheaper in so many things.
Great content, Hope! Your video comes across as very genuine and fun. You really brighten our days.
the best selling side defo came out prettier than the worst selling side imo! although its probably because i wasnt a fan of the colourful eyeshadow💞
youre so gorgeous hope, your acne is not even REMOTELY bad under your makeup, your skin is beautiful!
Thank you for this. Not only is it funny to watch, but good to know what product is worth the hype!

Loved this video! I liked the best selling look best but I think it’s because the red in the worst selling played a part in how the make up looked. Needed a neutral background and neutral color outfit for both. The red was reflecting onto your face.
I would also love to see you try different mlm makeup brands!

I’m not sure how I JUST found you but wow! I definitely had to subscribe to you and your channel. You are so beautiful, just so flawless! You truly have the BEST energy I have ever seen from any RUclipsr. I can’t wait to watch more from you!
Loved this video! I've been hoping either you, Mia Maples or Safia could do a deep dive into the whole online shopping culture/marketing tactics and how that stuff works.
Also, after reading other people's comments, I was super curious if the "color theory" concept is a thing between your red and green lighting? It possibly altered how not only you saw yourself, but also how the camera shows you on a screen. That could have made some of those products "look" better or worse.
Bringing back vintage brands, especially brands like Fashion Fair which has so much history behind it, is something I think a lot of people would love to see. I hate to be that person, but vintage/older things seem to be the most reliable and highest quality!
Thank you for putting so much time and effort into your videos!

You should do a skincare bestselling vs worst selling routine!!!! Plizzzzzzz
agreed
The attention to detail with the different colored outfits, table, and background lights!!!!! I’m obsessed
The green top 🥰
Yeah true but kind sway the opinion a little bit as the colour of the background kinda ruin it, as red background does not look good on her skin even before she applied anything on her skin.. as you can see green looks better on her as it cancel her red undertones.. hopefully in the next one she should have everything the same so it not “biased” and take away from the actual product..
Yeah that’s actually a great point I hadn’t even thought of that!
I love the tarte foundation is so nice and it’s more of a glowy project so it does a good job at being a glowy skin tint
