      I ❤ watching your channel. Please do more cooking videos. I really do follow your recipes. Thank you. And you were spot on with the cop. He was actually kind of scared of you. 😂 But calling you homeless was #overthetop!!!! You were smart by going to the police station, showing your face, and making your own report. That was excellent. I’m glad you got of that situation safely. 🙏🏾

    Just FYI - I didn't hear the officer identify himself as police when he approached your vehicle. That you had to look out to see who it was tells me he didn't They are required to identify themselves as police. I too would be cautious in opening my window or answering the banging on my car. He certainly didn't handle it professionally. But, in the end I do think you were right to go to the police station and speak to someone about it. Good job!

    Even if you live in your van, you are allowed to park between a certain time and as long as you arrive and leave between that time, and you can nap in your vehicle too. You aren’t squatting and weren’t there over night. I think a less angry cop would have been willing to check your dash cam footage and made it a conversation instead of threatening you if you didn’t immediately leave.

    I am so proud of you! You were 10000% right in standing your ground.
    He had NO reason to bang on your vsn. He could have politely, but assertively knocked on your window.
    He was using his so-called power to scare you into submission & let you know he was the one with the power.
    There was NO proof that you were camping, and, even if you were, he should have handled things better.
    As a police officer sworn to 'protect & serve', he showed no care, concern, or anything for you as a human, let alone a woman, and most certainly not 'skinfolk'.
    YOU HANDLED IT WELL THE 1ST DAY AND THE 2ND DAY. Please ask yourself WHY you feel like you didn't handle it well. Was it because you've been taught to respond a certain way that appeased others versus your authentic way?

      I don't know...I think it's all the comments I received on some other videos. The "Trucker Approached Me" video and the video about the guys who basically stole my campground. I received a ton of supportive comments on those videos, but also a good number of criticism for how I handled those situations. A few people on those videos told me they were unsubscribing because I "don't make smart decisions" and I'm "just asking for trouble with the situations I put myself in". I don't care about a person unsubscribing, and I don't dwell on any of the negativity, but with the amount of criticism I receive online, it's just best for me to expect the worst, lol.
      I should've known you all would come through with the support. Thank you 😊.

(I am a 50+ single woman, never been married, no kids.) So I am the one to defend myself. I am also gentle, friendly, and loving, and I speak up for myself when needed. When we women assert ourselves, sometimes it is perceived as being aggressive or being “too much”, that we are hormonal, moody, and emotional. When, if a man did the same thing, no one would think a second thought. Did the cop identify himself? And yes, he was aggressive. Follow your spirit, hunny, and don’t allow other people’s (even the ones we love) programming to be imprinted onto you and how you run your life. You were not born to run someone else’s program. Most of my run ins with the cops have been positive with the exception of one VERY bad experience where I was falsely accused of something and the situation really deteriorated and it was scary. But we need to stand our ground and stand up for our personal rights. Great video!

    My husband and I just love your videos. I am also very tender hearted and i applaud every good day and cried when your freezer wasn’t working. That you talk about your blue days is helpful, because you seem to have a - this too will pass attitude that helps people in their sad days. I sure get them. My husband and I lived in an RV for 5 years in the SE and I was in a beautiful tent for 2 years. I would love to get back on the road, but I take care of my 91 yr old mom. Being plant based is a good idea when living in a van, keeping meat from going bad is not easy. My husband and I think you are beautiful, and a wonderful example of courage. It is harder for women to feel safe doing solo van life, then add being Muslim and black - probably comes with its own challenges in certain areas. If you ever come to southern Oregon I have land you can stay on. Water, electric and a dumping spot for black water, grey can just water something. ❤❤❤

    Woah! The cop definitely tried to intimidate you but you handle that very well. I recently started to live in my car and I go to the park and chill during down time doing gig work. There’s a few vans and homeless people that sit at the park all day. Even sleep at the park. The police occasionally come and will see but do nothing. So that cop was completely wrong.
    Someone called the police on me last night for sleeping on a public road near a gated apartment complex. I had to move because I was there for a couple of days. Remind you there was someone else parked right behind me who lives in her car but I was the only one told to leave. I didn’t know people really call the cops on people who lives in cars/vans. Like mind your business nobody is doing anything to disturb you.

      YOU DID HANDLE IT WELL THE 1ST DAY AND THE 2ND DAY. Please ask yourself WHY you feel like you didn't handle it well. Was it because you've been taught to respond a certain way that appeased others versus your authentic way?
      Stay true to you, beautiful, and continue to be safe!!!

      Tahini
      Soy Sauce
      Ginger Juice or Grated Ginger
      Sesame Oil
      Chili Paste
      Vinegar (whatever kind you have)
      Honey or any sweetener you prefer

    I love your basic living to buy land, to be selfreliant and selfsufficient. Good choices in your food selections, I'm a Dietitian. Don't let anyone thrash your dreams and aspirations. Look for land that has a right of way, it's usually cheaper. I researched land for a friend with a brook and right of way 2 years ago and with negotiation the price dropped $7,000. All in all, this depends on the State you live in. Also, if you have a 401k, if its applies to you, you can do a first time home buyer's loan. You say you intend to build a structure. The best part of this, is you pay yourself back with interest.

  • @justinekingmaker493
    @justinekingmaker493 6 месяцев назад +3

    To be honest, I probably would have reacted the exact same way.
    I also would have cried after the interaction as well.
    But I would have filed a complaint against the officer because I'm not good at letting things go. If someone lies about me and makes up stories that simply aren't true, I will complain, especially if it's a police officer.
    You were a much better person than I would have been in that situation.
    BTW: The base of that dressing, was that Tahini? It looks delicious!! (And yeah, I love fish sauce too!)
    Peanut butter, honey, and yogurt is a family favorite for us and it adds a bit more protein and fat.
    I also love a little granola in my yogurt or currents with pecans, but apples and walnuts are crazy good!
    Any fresh or even frozen fruit in yogurt is always a great "go-to", sometimes I'll even add cereal flakes (like special K or a Quinona/Spelt/Millet blend flake - they are sold by different names depending on the store) I just love a little crunch!

    I was watching your video and wanted to share my information based on the restrictions of any form of urban camping. I fully understand how scary your experience was, however, the cop offered you an alternative option to park because whether or not you are in agreement with him and or his mannerism…he was addressing the called complaints and stated the true guidelines of the noticeable situation. I would hope that you stay safe, within the guidelines of where you can legally park, and definitely what’s urban camping. Take care.

    • @simmpleenough
      @simmpleenough  5 месяцев назад

      I wasn’t urban camping. The cop was wrong. Cops aren’t always correct. Many times, they don’t know the law. The sergeant let me know I was allowed to be there. I’ve been back many times with no problems 🙂.

    • @Checkitoutwithgwen
      @Checkitoutwithgwen 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the response, however, your explanation to the sergeant was completely truthful but I do understand trying to stand your ground. I do believe that you felt mistreated and possibly embarrassed but I have a family member who is an officer, so I was only sharing what I know to be truthful. Despite how some cops handle a call, we may need them and would hope that they are willing to do the right thing on our behalf. I really hope the best for you.

    You handled it 100% appropriately. A lot of people would have been much more hot than you were. The only thing I would have done differently is request a supervisor. I hope that cop on his power trip gets some retraining. The fact that he rolled up hot may mean that something happened in his day that made him mad and he took it out on you, which is hella unprofessional. You did everything correctly. Be safe out there.❤

    Monique 🖤
    Good Morning and Happy Sunday ☀️. As always, I’m glad you posted another video and I got a chance to sit back, watch, and enjoy it on my Sunday morning 😌.
    I’m sorry you had to go through that madness at a public park. It’s crazy because instead of assuming, the guy who called the cops could have easily tried asking first.
    I understand being concerned about your neighborhood, but perception isn’t necessarily reality and that’s why it’s important to ask. The police should have used his interviewing skills and asked questions in order to get to the bottom of things and de-escalate the situation.
    You shouldn’t just go off of what was reported because it might be completely wrong. There’s always three sides to most stories… his side, her side, and then the truth.
    Nonetheless, I’m glad it was handled and didn’t go too far left. Your safety is most important. Anyhow, I wish you a fantastic rest of the day, and an amazing upcoming week. I look forward to tagging along during your next adventure. Be safe, stay positive, and please keep smiling… because it looks AMAZING on you 🙏🏿 🖤
