Udayan Mitra, for sure most educated pakistani "kids" and that's exactly what they are.. They may sound intelligent but as far as using real objective information it is difficult for them,
they have actually become experts in selective and dogmic information. If they actually concentrate on bringing real change to Pakistan and stop being Islamic in matters of running a nation they may be able to help the country and also other people may start to take them seriously

He is misquoting on the UN plebescite article.. for Pakistan there is no mention of 'Pakistan army' or 'forces' unlike that for indian army in its respective step.. this is how it is "The Government of Pakistan will use its best endeavour to secure the withdrawal from the State of Jammu and Kashmir of tribesmen and Pakistani nationals not normally resident therein who have entered the State for the purpose of fighting." So it mentions tribesmen and non kashmiri pakistani national who are there to fight. Which was the case back then. rebels vs indian army.. Also today most of the army personal in azad kashmir and Gilgit baltistan are local not outsiders.. Also amazing how he dodged it to Pakistan taking the first step.. Pakistan will take the first step once the UN team is formulated and takes in writing from indian govt. that it's ready to hold plebescite. But it seems only Pakistan is pushing on this and india is abstaining yet blaming Pakistan at the same time for not making the move. Both steps from each side have to go consecutively it's not like first Pakistan makes it move then waits for india to do arrangements on its side. Also all this will happen under a UN designated team which is why india doesnt trust plebescite as kashmiris always wanted to be free from india and british only gave them choice between Pakistan and india.

i dint even observe what other leaders said or i dint even attempt to play any video other than this one... Omar Abdullah is a true kasmiri or one among them through which the real voice can be heard... he wasnt just pointing about good things of India but as a whole... he have many disagreements on how central govrment downplays internal subjects of Jammu n Kasmir regardless of political party... yet he is proud to say he is an Indian... he can be a minister of any part of India..he is the voice for all... i would welcome anyone who would say that he was wrong in any front..but with substantial facts... great n huge respect to this guy...

Umar Abdullah should stop riding our backs and pretend to be some bleeding heart.
JUST TELL ME how come you have so much more wealth while you have worked so less than I have. I barely manage my life and manage to help some people who are less fortunate materially than I have been. You live a life of luxury ... where from comes this gold. You will never grow a spine, I doubted my father's earnings a bit and have not touched a penny from my dad. CAN YOU SAY THAT YOU EARNED YOUR MONEY BY PUTTING IN PROPORTIONATE HARD WORK ?? Omar Abdullah attended a seminar titled ‘India & Pakistan: A Subcontinental Affair’, which was arranged by the New York University students on their campus. He spoke on the UN resolutions on Kashmir & defended India by saying that ‘“To this day I fail to understand why we in India feel so apologetic that this UN referendum never took place. The onus wasn’t on India to create the conditions for that referendum”. He referred to the text of the said resolution where Pakistan needs to move out of its part of J&K before India does the same while maintaining minimum troops for the law & order. This is a commonly asked question by the Indians who study Kashmiri politics & even their analysts use this argument passionately to defend New Delhi on Kashmir. Therefore, I covered this question in my FAQ series, published here about a couple of months ago. What baffled me this time was that it has come from the former Chief Minister of the state, who ruled it for 6 years. He also happens to be the scion of Abdullah family, grandson of Sheikh Abdullah who has been witness to the crucial phase of our history. And I think the way Omar asserted his understanding of the UN issue, I’m sure he wasn’t pretending. He really believes it to be true. It’s scary to think that if this is his level of comprehension, how we expect outsiders to empathize with us.
My refutation is not based on contentious stories which I believe to be true or historical jargon, but sheer logic, which even children can come to grips with. His quotation from the UN document asking Pakistan to move out first is unarguably accurate; what is misleading is its contextualization. As is usually argued by Indians, the resolutions on Kashmir were passed by the UN Security Council under chapter VI of UN Charter. Resolutions passed under Chapter VI of UN charter are considered non-binding and have no mandatory enforceability as opposed to the resolutions passed under Chapter VII. Therefore, for the UN to act on Kashmir, consent of both the countries- Pakistan & India, is mandatory. Omar Abdullah said & I quote ‘’ “If Pakistan is unwilling to fulfill step one, how is it India’s responsibility to fulfill step 2’’. This statement is completely irrational because before he talks about the point no. 1 & 2 of the text of the resolution, he must understand that India needs to accept the legitimacy of the whole UN question. Since the resolution is under chapter VI & not under chapter VII, India & Pakistan must first agree on the UN mediation on Kashmir, subsequently followed by the joint request to the United Nations Organization expressing their readiness. The UN will then begin the implementation of the text of the resolution, as read out by Omar Abdullah i.e. ask Pakistan to move out first. The UN knows its resolution well. It doesn’t need any lessons from us. If at that point of time, Pakistan refuses to back off, it will be culpable, not till then. For God sake, how can India deny the role of UN & call its resolutions irrelevant and at the same time accuse Pakistan of not acting upon the step-1 of the same UN resolutions? This is sheer nonsense. The steps whether 1 or 2 come later in the ‘Implementation phase’, but parties first needs to agree to the whole idea of the UN and then devise a plan with the UN. There were preparatory talks about it at the UN, in years 1948, 49 and 50. Even Omar’s grand father-Sheikh Abdullah reports firsthand account in his autobiography 'The Blazing Fire' that many times they were very close to an agreement but ‘stupid contentions’ prevailed. As per him, at one instance, Pakistan said after they withdraw 100%, India, which had to keep a minimum number of troops for law & order, should not exceed 22,000, during the Plebiscite, while India didn't budge and remained adamant on 27,000 troops. So, agreement on the UN mediation precedes the text of its resolutions.
India’s official stance on UN in Kashmir is no secret. It brought UNMOGIP office in Delhi on road, some years ago, and asked it to pay rent and hire some other building as it is irrelevant for India now. India made opposition to the UN resolutions as a part of its constitution when in 1994, it passed a bill that ‘’the entire state of J&K is its integral part including the Pakistani Kashmir, which remains to be taken’’. If one follows this childish point of view of Pakistan unilaterally vacating J&K, India has to go & occupy even that part to honor its own constitution. When Pakistan seeks implementation of the UN resolutions, it includes the step 1 as well. It doesn’t ask for UN resolutions minus Step 1. Step-1 is a part of the resolution, Mr. Abdullah, not separate from it. Now, I’m sure you won’t ‘fail to understand why we in India feel so apologetic that this UN referendum never took place’. It’s simply because the party which denies UN resolutions, as its official policy is the only bottleneck, not otherwise.

At that time Pakistan knew that if they agreed to plebiscite it will go against them because the kashmiris were angry because of rape ,plunder and loot caused by tribal invaders sent by Pakistan.Thats why Pakistan wanted to avoid plebiscite at that time. What omar is saying is true, If UN cannot make Pakistan remove its troops, Its not india's problem.Everyone seems to forget that india was the one who took it to UN , why wont they abide by UN resolution. Seeing that UN can do nothing, both sides agreed to shimla agreement 1972, owing to which kashmir has been removed from list of disputed territories. Now Pakistan is again taking it to UN.....

Lengthy because already some 70 years have passed. Common sense is what you lack, India's favor-Kashmir is not a commodity that the aspirations of its subjects be ignored. We are the biggest stakeholders of the cause and it needs a resolution according to our wishes.

Indira gandhi was an autocrat , she was the same person who brought emergency to India and rigged election in kashmir, arrested farooq abdullah and tried to destroy National conference and tried to remove the autonomy of kashmir and is the source of kashmiri revolting in 1987 and subsequently it got hijacked by islamists which came to dominate huriyat conference and LET .Indira wanted congress to defeat the National conference and that is source of all that happened in J&K. If it were'nt for her J&K was pretty nice place to live in before 1987 and there was very little anti-India feeling then. It is such an irony that it was kashmiri who brought chaos to kashmir(Indira Gandhi was also a kashmiri)

With some respect I can answer one question which Mr. Omar Abdullah asked saying, "I would like to know why Kashmiri pandits left their homes?"
Answer : If a single incident became the immediate cause to made Kashmiri pandits just pack their minimals, grab their daughters, kids and dear ones(in rare cases they just left very elderly behind, not out of selfishness : many instances were such that the elderly refused to leave because they thought they were too old to be molested) and go 300 kms away to Jammu (from Srinagar). These pandits left from rural Kashmir as well.
So what was the ultimate event that convinced them beyond doubt? (I suggest please ask statistically huge and robost sample of Kashmiri Pandits).
I am a researcher in various fields and I spent my own money (got help from many Kashmiri pandit and Muslim and Sikh friends) to determine the answer.
Answer is clear : statistical reply is too technical to write here : I am making it available in plain words, with a sense of responsibility of using the garb of a scientist (self-styled) :
When Mr. Jagmohan got appointed as Governor in ending days of 1989 after the kidnapping and negotiated release of of Ms. Rubiya Sayrd (daughter of the then Home Minister of India) , Mr. Farooq Abdullah the Chief Minister at that time was terribly upset because he didn't want Mr. Jagmohan as the Governor. So CM Mr. Farooq Abdullah sulked, resigned, left for UK BUT not before he used the DEEP National Conference Organisation on ground in Kashmir to shout from EVERY MOSQUE slogans favouring jihad : yes jihad, till that night the militancy was of an organisation called JKLF (Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front) and JKLF no doubt were bigoted but externally they never used religious Islamic colours So Mr. Farooq Abdullah had told high officials about Mr. Jagmohan that "whole Kashmir will burn if you insist on keeping Mr. Jagmohan as the Governor to Jammu and Kashmir. Well Mr. Farooq Abdullah got his organisation to INCITE MUSLIMS TO shout from mosques and in a mosque my muslim brothers became a mob and shouted slogans that declared Islamic jihad. I was 19 yrs old and I knew Islam has nothing to do with this so when a group of my muslim friends came to accompany me to the mosque, I summoned up the courage to tell them, "go ahead, I won't disrespect the mosque : have fun, I'll sleep : better still guys don't do it, we have other fun things to do". But my muslim friends told me that it would be fun to scare Kashmiri Hindus. I told them that we all have them as our friends too. They said, come on we won't hurt them : we will tell them tomorrow that this is just for kicks.
There you are : how Kashmir was set on fire on the level of high ups and on the level of teenagers.
Next morning I went to see my Kashmiri Hindu (Pandit) friends AND THEY HADN'T SLEPT AT ALL !!!
I felt humiliated that they almost begged me for information about the "plans" of a riot. I did not know much. I did runs to purchase groceries for a few houses as their elders were scared to go out.
I wish Mr. Omar Abdullah was as sincere as he appears. He started off as a good human. Most of human kids never develop the heart to ask questions to their parents. Especially when parents have been powerful enough to "burn" a long tradition of religious tolerance.
I have nothing against Mr. Omar Abdullah, but I won't lie. I have questioned myself and I seek grace to rectify myself. I don't want to have anger against Mr. Omar Abdullah : I want him to introspect and rectify and the rectification might mean giving up a lot of power that he wields. He also has inherited a lot of wealth existence of which cannot be proven easily (so this is totally unconfirmed so let me add in case he has as per unconfirmed reports by researchers : I hope he does not force me to reveal what reports because by God I will), he can just abandon that back to the people of all parts of Jammu, Kashmir and all other regions.

Dear Badger you are misunderstanding my whole narrative.
I did not say it was 'just a prank'. I said and meant (may be I should have been careful in writing ) that there was a callousness in the youngsters displayed at that time when kashmiri pandit families (which to my mind, based on facts, is ethnic cleansing and nothing less) were scared out of Srinagar (at least, I know about the posh portions of Srinagar city) and Kashmir valley.
I would not be surprised if far more ugly and outright criminal acts were done upon Kashmiri pandits/hindus than the ones I have mentioned.
I am a kashmiri muslim and believe I would be embarrassing the fundamentals of my faith if I don't report that purely based on their hindu beliefs and their love for India were kashmiri pandits forced to leave Srinagar city (and I believe the rural areas of Kashmir valley) in the middle of a cold winter. I think were I a good enough muslim I should have left Srinagar and sided with people who were forced out of their homes based on their faith and love for the nation.
I am not writing this comment to please anyone or annoy anyone. I am just reporting the facts as well as I know and could research a bit (by spending out of my own pocket ).
Kindly understand by stating truth I have created more trouble for myself so I hope I am not asked to respond any further: I am just a private middle class person with meagre resources.
I don't expect to gain anything but I also cannot be the one who ends up footing the bill all along.

I don't think you realise how much it has already cost me in soo many ways to write this.
Come on try and empathise a bit.
I accept that ethnic cleansing is an extreme crime. Thank God I was not a part of the problem, there are living humans who can bear witness on my behalf.

well nice interaction and great replies by Omar Abdullah sir...he also answered without sidelining the questionnaire bcaz he doesn't want him to feel that he is being ignored..thats awesomeness n nature of an Indian. But i see the crowd is not ready or doesnt wants to agree with either omar or dr.subramanian swami i feel thats a mindset problem. Now this is what happens at national level when one person interferes in others business in the name of anything its still a problem to the victims n they bleed not the others who just sit n question here. i wud like to ask.why will someone from other country will occupy JnK..you have your own country n ppl that you need to be part of it..in other words if i am being given a land the same way my brother was given and if i step in to my brothers land or occupy it as something is there that iam interested with, it doesnt matter whatever it can be called it is still unfair or illegal and it never becomes mine even if i live for 1000years(tho many dont live even for 80years nowadays n cant take these lands as well) on it as legally it belongs only to that person it cant be changed. i think that ppl of JnK has gone thru alot and i pray to the almighty who can be with or without form that this valley needs PEACE..please...i also dont understand why a democratic country like Pakistan fail to understand...google maps of india few hundred years back you wont find pakistan or even afghanistan it was Gandhara n kambojia so dont trouble yourself too much n get distracted..you dont like our brothers to be in peace but need the land? will you accept the same if your neighborhood countries grab your land n rights in the name of anything? you just heard mr.Omar saying the problem now exists for 25years which is almost 1third of human life now those pandits wud have turned grand pa's n still the issue not fixed wat abt their rights that is being violated? they wud have grown their, think abt their memories, a human cant forget his birthplace n nothing becomes equal to it. you arent worried of any of these but question about pellets used(dr swami interview).. well why do you use stone or use any weapon in the first place if you get back n it hirts u you will play politics over it, if you are really worried and dont want pellets or bullets just move away from Indian soil n dont create any issues why will there be questions on war pellets human rights etc.Sorry if this hurts anyone or their sentiment. All that iam saying is JK is another state of India no one has rights to question or occupy in it. we arent interested with your questions at all. Please we want peace in the valley.

and jihadis and isi wallas entered NYU also. A pakistan citizen doesnot put down his country even if he knew it is hell, but indian students there in extending a hand of friendship puts down his country everytime. pakistan argues that punjabis are majority of our population so their dominance in society is justified, so the same doesnot apply to hindus in india. i think pakistani students watch india left media for their knowledge.

Opening statement itself is wrong. Kashmir is not a political problem but a religious problem. If it were a political one, it would have be long solved when J&K got a special status under article 370 of Indian constitution. The real problem started in late 1980's when jihadis were moved to Kashmir from Afghanistan, after the Soviets vacated. If it is a political one, Kashmiri Hindus would have not been driven out. By saying lies, Omar makes clear that he do not have anything constructive in solving the kashmir problem.

Vabzinator You stupid SOB. You are contradicting yourself. Pakistan itself is a result of religious problem, how can Kashmir be not a religious problem? When at the source itself you get only sewage water, can you expect to get pure water down the stream?

Vabzinator, mostly indians are poltically biased because they are being fed lies and bias through media and books. Kashmir is 100% political chased by all groups left right and centre. If it is also backed by some right wing religious groups like Jamat Islami that will not change nature of problem. India is headed by most fantastic right wing hindu nationlist party but there are liberals also. We need to see basic problem.

at the outset (this was in response to #rabatha 273), I am ignorant about what was Kashmir not just this but the previous couple of centuries and would like to know more. Further I have several co-professionals from across the border (courtesy: facebook) and met about half a dozen of them and they experience many problems and challenges (from society and politicians !!) similar to us this side of the border. Borders are on maps and not on land.
Frankly seeing your post set me once again wondering what was the K in the term Pakistan doing - and how so - and how is it tenable legally in its sovereignty. So I set forth questioning my 'Beliefs' !
With about 100 min of googling and reading I was able to assemble the following:
I hope one will have the courtesy to start with something to accept about that the term and territory of PAKistan (wikipedia: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etymology_of_Pakistan: its name was coined on 28 January 1933 as PAKStan - and not PAKIStan by Choudhary Rahmat Ali, a Pakistan Movement activist, who published it in his paper Now or Never by using the suffix istan from Baluchistan preceded by the initial letters of Punjab, Afghania, Kashmir and Sindh and by another poetic definition: 'persian' and 'urdu' source of word meant as "pure" land) was a creation of poorly and hastily delineated boundary by imagination - and not with due application of mind by a British Judge - consequences of such poor application are happening even today before the British left the subcontinent placing Jinnah (pre independence both of India and Pakistan - as he was an elected representative by their people - his voice was for a separate Islamic state - mainly due to the fear of Nehru and his pitch for political leadership post independence - which was more authoritarian - he was unfortunately attributed accolades way beyond he actually deserved by indians - esp Congress - which Gandhi wanted to dissolve post independence - which 'unluckily' did not happen) who spearheaded the demand for separate state for muslim where they were majority as leader of its Constituent Assembly.
    If the definition of pure land is to be adhered, the K in Pakistan will be rendered meaningless;
Or if the P,A,K,-istan definition has to be accounted, it is a new definition (1933) or a territory defined (poorly and hastily defined borders by a British Judge) by British act of independence passed circa 1940.
Please do some research on topics before hasty comments with blood rushing to wrong places inside us.
    None of above are my personal opinions on this sensitive matters - and data was collected from various sources (online).en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constituent_Assembly_of_Pakistan;
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jammu_and_Kashmir_(princely_state)
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_of_Accession
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_India_Act_1935
Equally I wish to urge you to patiently go through the entire talk and discussion by Dr Swami which followed this talk - link ruclips.net/video/eKMKYuLwsmI/видео.html.
If you can point out some (time) relevant articles pls feel free - and thanks (to #rabatha 273) for making me think on my own feet.
