I don't understand why none of these riders are ever told to get their elbows in. They all brace their hands down with their elbows popped way out and away from their bodies. This causes a lot of their issues with getting pulled out of the saddle on the landing too.
Most of them actually have their elbows in, but it is kind of hard to keep your elbows in while jumping those big jumps and maintaining a perfect frame.
Most of them are using a crest release rather than an automatic release. Unfortunately, the crest release is preferred in the hunter/equitation ring. If they did an automatic release, their elbows would not stick out as much.
+Chevron704 A crest release over a jump is when a rider brings their hands together and almost pushes on the horses crest or neck thus pushing their elbows out. An automatic release a rider holds their hands out more to the sides of the neck and follows with the horses motion
I think I may like Hunter Jumping a bit more than Show Jumping, just because it seems more controlled, not exactly relaxed... but collected and smooth. Show Jumping is just fast, crazy, a lot of the riders have terrible form, and pretty much all over the place XD!! Hunter Jumping seems like it would take a lot more patience and skill than show jumping :)!

You may say that because you see more of the European jumpers, in the US and Canada we have hunter and Eq trainers who teach both hunters and jumpers. Hence American and Canadian jumpers tend to not be so all over the place. Also the jumpers are very technical, in order to not knock any fences you have to get good distances and correct striding between jumps. Not only do you have to do that but in a fast canter or gallop.
As cool as I think this is, how do they fit the saddles? I doubt all of the riders are the same size, and it would certainly be wiser to fit to the horse.

Well actually, in jumpers nobody does half seat on course, only over jumps. In EQ, riders keep a more upward seat, but they still like collection, slow riding, and traditional attire/tack. Hunters is full on frills and half seat. (In eq they allow leather EQ boots and hind, where in hunters they don't allow neither and will be disqualified for having them on a horse and entering the ring) just an FYI :)

The WIHS has two parts, a hunter phase and a jumper phase. In the hunt seat phase, they have to wear standard nosebands and standing martingales like any medal class but in the jumper seat phase they can use jumper tack like figure 8 nosebands and running martingales. Since this work off is over the jumper phase course, the horses are all in that tack.
Pinching with your knees will swing your leg back. They DON’T want that in equitation. Your leg should be nice and still. Plus depending on how your pinching with your legs, it just sounds painful. 😬 (I’m expanding on what Dawn Dish Soap already said)
Did they make everyone switch horses with a completely random rider? That seems strange having to ride a horse you've never ridden before... correct me if I am wrong please
Hussain Makki a lot of people can at 13. Although I have a question. What do you show in? Because from my knowledge there is 12-14 Eq which is 2’6 and 15-17 Eq which is 3’3 I believe. So if you are 13 I assuming that you can’t show 3’3 which is what there doing here.
Phelhams make it easier for the rider to frame the horse, along with collect and balance it without having to make big moves with their hand, since it’s an eq class having quiet hands is very important
the Pelham gives more leverage on the bit when the reins are pulled so the horse goes into a frame easier (from what I've been told). It also could just be since a Pelham rein is considered stronger, the rider doesn't have to make a big scene on slowing the horse down because one touch with the bit changes the horses gait to something slower
Belle Devault not true. A lot of horses are very much one-person horses. They have created a bond with there rider and they prefer for only there rider to ride them. For example my friends pony. When she rides him he’s very calm and collected, and she only has to use her aids very slightly, but I hopped on him the other day and he ran of with me and wouldn’t stop. It was a matter of me not being his rider. Horses are very sensitive and some don’t like new people riding them, it’s more of a personality thing then a training thing.
Daw N Nope. It’s a training thing... The vast majority of horses see being ridden as work. It’s a matter of who rides the horse better... Sure you can get along with one horse, more than others, but at the end of the day, it’s training. You can teach a horse to be ridden by anyone, simply by putting a new rider on said horse every once in a while. He’ll get used to it.

Typically lesson horses for example have a very high tolerance levels, this is something that I normally see as a personality thing. Then my horse for example, she tolerates other people ridding her, but doesn’t like it and typically gives other people a hard time. There’s are also horses like my friends pony, he’s naturally a fairly nervous horse and sees my friend as almost a safety blanket, when other people ride him he gets nervous and runs off and is bad, therefore he doesn’t tolerate new people. I think IS a personality thing rather than a training thing, but your allowed your opinion which in fine. I just don’t agree with your opinion personally.
i could never let a stranger ride my horse. i let one of my friends (that i know is a good rider) ride him ONE time and i told her he needs a loose rein and little leg. she pulled on him one time. i made her get off and then i screamed at her. my little baby’s so good i don’t want him getting the wrong impression from a different rider.

most saddles are all bespoke and made to fit the horse and rider as a pair :)

Only running martingales are permitted in the jumping phase of these kinds of classes, I believe. I'm not too sure though.

The 3rd girls legs were really wonky and had a lot of spacing between her saddle and her legs.
The Hendersons your leg shouldn’t be touching the whole saddle, it’s not good to pinch with your knees or calf.
