I miss TWA. I remember flying in one of their 747s from Chicago to Denver in 1986. The plane was almost entirely empty and we just flipped up the armrests between the seats in the center row and slept all the day there :)
This theme of employees loving their airline just doesnt exist anymore....and i believe it was genuine at TWA til the end and even til this day. Its sad to watch these commercials now as you can sense the hope by the employees to the owners and passengers that they would give TWA a chance to prove they were still a world class airline...because this is all they've ever known and truly believe in and cant stand to watch it die. =/
TWA (TW) was railroaded by American Airlines (AA/AMR) into what was sold to the workforce as a "merger", that turned out to be nothing but a hostile take over on which contrary to the comment below by RUclips member "Sasan Sanehi" most of their workers were vanished and left out in the cold without a job! American Airlines never honored the seniority dates of the TWA Inflight Crews, they were placed in the bottom of the "seniority list" and after 9/11 they were furlough, (send home without pay for lack of passenger demand) the legalities of a "furlough" specify that within "five years" if you're not call back you lose your right to be recalled and your employment with it. American Airlines, through those "five years" overworked their crews, giving them overtime so they could get rid of the TWA senior employees and with them their pensions and benefits! I will never fly American Airlines, if I have to make three connection with the competition to get there, I do it gladly! Now that they merged with USAir, as long as the American Airlines name survives, I still won't patronize them at all!!!
You can thank American's unions for that. They presented the company with the new seniority lists with the TWA people stapled at the bottom. Unfortunately, AA was obligated to accept them. Years later, the head of AA's flight attendant union acknowledged that what they did was wrong, but it was "too late to unscramble that egg".
By spending millions of dollars on the naming rights, to acquire the name from American Airlines. By spending billions of dollars on new planes. And by spending a fortune on getting the costumer's trust. Don't forget the employees. Another tip: Begin small, you will big later. When you have brought back TWA.
@weeman911 Where did you get this information from? Out of 18.000 flight attendants from TWA, 15 thousand were laid off, the remaining three thousand were put on the bottom of the American Airlines flight attendants list and were eventualy all laid off in early 2003. American destroyed TWA.
From what I thought it was AW who actually purchased US but decided to use the US name because it was well know in Europe. That's why the company is based in AZ and not Philly or Charlotte.
@christoph415 yea sorry i actually didnt find that out till last month and couldnt belive itt, smart move actually because awe can make more bank having more aircraft and more routes and sorta be undercover fo those who dont know. i personally miss awe colors and schemes, they had fun with it, but its whatever
Those folks gave it everything they had to fight for TWA. They left nothing on the table. Everything they did went to the customer and it was a helluva 3 years to fly with them.
Great airline. You know here in Europe we see the same thing. Hapag Lloyd is no gone as a brand as so many others. It´s all about money. Sad but true. I loved Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, PSA, Braniff and all the one´s I forgot here. May the brands rest in peace and not be raped by assholes !
u bring back america west, dude id fly for u, AWE was the best. I live in pHX, where it started, id love to see them rather us air flying out, US AIR sucks for taking america west
Only BA and Air France were supersonic with the Concorde.. Braniff International had a lease on some Concordes, but never chose to implement the purchase of any aircraft... because of the sonic boom it was never practical... with the new supersonic research NASA has been doing.. that may change..
Delta almost vannished but thanks to Northwest its still around as the worlds largest airline for now anyway. In the end they all go.....One day Southwest Airlines and Jet Blue will go worldwide due to the fall and merger of one of the big boys (Delta,American,United or US Airways)
My dad worked for TWA from 1953 until 1991 and I still remember flying with him. Really miss TWA and would love to see it come back again!
My mom worked for TWA from 96-99 or so...she flew free and we as family flew for about $20. You don't know how much I miss those days...
I'm going to go and Apply for a job there this week, sounds like a great place to work,, I can hardly wait !
Otis was awesome. He was my favorite agent in St. Louis. I never saw that man get ruffled by anything. I got to do ticket lift for him on occasion.

@crosschecker I got my numbers from Wikipedia, I guess this site isn't always right. thanks for your correction :-)
14 months after flight 800 :(
eh ok. just saying, 1996 was the last year TWA had 747s in their commercials.
does TWA accept CHASE reward points?
Those folks gave it everything they had to fight for TWA. They left nothing on the table. Everything they did went to the customer and it was a helluva 3 years to fly with them.
If you all think about it, if TWA was still around it would have sucked just like the rest.

If you take a look 4 years into the future.... This commercial did not work^^
