All of your analysis videos are fresh and go right to the core. They aren’t the same stuff over and over. With Mick Taylor leaving the Stones in Dec of 1974 you have to think Keith, who loves playing with Ronnie, that he remembered this event. Hard to believe that Ronnie has been a Rolling Stone since 1975 and I saw the Stones in 1975 at a World Series of Rock in Cleveland Stadium! He sounded like he had always been a Rolling Stone. Thanks Fil...great memories!

Just a fun entertaining band.

See "Lady Day" or "Scarred and Scared", Killing of Georgie. He was a bit of a bimbo for sure. But when it came time to be serious, he could be.
Great choice Fil. Speaking of Faces, maybe you could analyze Small Faces one of these days, a highly underrated band with the great Steve Marriott from the British Invasion era. Or Humble Pie...

Love your analysis Fil. I am fortunate enough to have seen most of the greats like Rod at least once in concert and know the talent it took to produce the music so loved today still. I admit I had to pass on your miley cyrus deal as I don't consider that music or talent, especially with auto tune, but I love when you review the true talents that made, what I consider, the best in the business! I was sitting on the floor only 6 rows back from the stage and Rod strutted out . . . so disappointed for no Stevie Marriott!!! But that strut, the stacked shoes and the haircut!!! Then the show started . . . his voice and the clean, solid music. Unforgettable, incredible, irreplaceable band! Thanks Fil 😎💚🌍🙏💚

I'll never forget the amazed inflection of her tone when saying, "Who is that!?!" We ended up seeing him 3 times. What fun we had, thanks Fil.
Faces was one of the 1st concerts I ever attended. It was around this time. They played at the Hec Edmondson Pavillion in Seattle. I didn't get to really enjoy it, however, because I was surrounded by older people doing drugs. I was an innocent young girl, and scared to death! This ilk of song is one that clique of guys could jam on. Pre-pirate Kieth. I can't tell you the times I've discussed Stewart's chords with others. There is a beautiful instrumental version of the 1st Cut is the Deepest that was played solo by Martin Simpson on slide guitar, presumably a Dobro. Definitely a resophonic type guitar, probably flat on his lap from the sound of it, and its beautiful.
Rod Stewart is one of my most favorite Singer/Performers. His vocals are so bluesy and huge. He could project so dynamically. See how he can be so far from his microphone and still be heard easily. There is an excellent 4-part PBS documentary titled American Epic, about the early history of "field recording": record agents and talent scouts criss-crossing the country in the 1920s and 30s with heavy recording equipment, looking for musicians to record. This series from 2017 dovetails nicely with Ken Burns' country-music documentary and covers some musical styles and subjects that weren't in the Burns documentary, such as Hawaiian music and the origins of slide guitar, Cajun zydeco, and the rediscovery of Mississippi John Hurt. The final episode features a lovingly restored, late 1920s "portable" Western Electric direct to disc record-cutting system with a single microphone, a huge rack of tube (valve) amplification and a massive, gleaming brass and gold record cutting lathe with a built-in microscope, and driven/powered not by a motor but by a falling 105 pound lead weight! Famous musicians including Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard show up, writing a song together in the studio and cutting a record direct to disc (78 rpm) from a single shared microphone. Elton John and Jack White work out a song arrangement together from brand-new, hand-delivered Bernie Taupin lyrics. This documentary series is a must-see! ( We watched it on the Amazon Prime channel).
Thank You so much. That sounds like the very beginning of the industry , to bad what the all mighty dollor has done to it. . And "Autotune" of course.. thanks ✌️
I enjoyed this performance, I have only one gripe with this video and that’s how depressed I became after watching this video because the older I have become the more and more I miss my days of youth and the seventies. One of Rods more obscure song came out in 1970 and it was on Python Lee Jackson’s, In A Broken Dream, Rod sang on three of the albums songs and my favorite song he did vocals on was “In A Broken Dream”
I saw them five times back in the day. One of my favorite bands. As a drummer I always liked Kenny Jones' playing. As a young man I learned how to play for the song and not myself. As Keith once said: "It's not what you play, but what you don't play."
In the first band, while we were packing up the equipment, when ever the guitarist or keyboard player would mention any mistakes they made, the drummer would say the rhythm section was perfect. It would always make me smile. Great analysis Fil, and a great performance.
Another great choice to analyze Fil ! I saw Rod solo in 1976 in Chicago and 1984 in Indianapolis with Jeff Beck as a no show :-( and imho no one has more soul in their singing , one of a kind ! Great job as always Fil !
First band I ever saw, Aug 73 Doncaster, Top Rank., I queued all day for a ticket. I was buzzin' the next day at school. Loved his music from the moment I first heard Maggie May on the chart rundown on a Sunday teatime in 1971!
So many of these amazing rock singers and musicians have been in the "easy listening, adult contemporary" genre for so long, it's easy to forget that they ruled the freaking world 40 years ago. Rod Stewart is definitely one of those guys who I'd LOVE to see make a comeback pure rock record again, like the old days.
Saw Rod, when I was home in 1977. Paid $15 for the "cheap seats". Good concert. Later when I was working in the Philippines, they showed a recorded Rod Stewart concert on TV in 1981 or 1982. It was from the same tour I saw. Loved Rods early solo work, some great tunes, classics. I knew when Ronnie joined the Stones, it was the end of the Faces. Still great to see this line up.
And not counting all the possibilities of a mix of mind altering substances .... they be jamming good yeah! You have to be in that groove. It is so uplifting to the soul. Sure miss those days.....
Glad you talked about and nailed the description of the guitar interplay with Ronnie and Keith at the end. Two masters at what they do when they were young and flying highest. Rod absolutely owned this deliverance and his soul interpretation was perfect for this song. RIP Ronnie Lane who was so instrumental at the beginning until his rural living and health changed things for him.
Love Mr. Rod Stewart, Wow.... What an unexpected surprise! Good evening Fil, I saw most of your live show last night Oct. 22 2019 Tuesday, wonderful song and performance as always it left me feeling good , energized and ready to hit the books some more. Then tonight, Oct 23rd Wednesday this amazing treat, thank you, thank you. My mother especially loved Mr. Stewart, she was open to all music and respected the artist as well . Anyway, I did not forget you, been sick and busy ,however, Fil , of course spot on with your intelligence analysis, that I always learn from and appreciate. Thanks, again for Mr. Stewart upload, and have a good evening.
The depth of your knowledge continues to amaze. And you always get your facts right. Just wanted to point out that the Faces were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame with the Small Faces. Which completely pissed off both Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan as they saw the bands entirely separate entities.
Saw him several times beginning with the Gasoline alley album tour and yes...we all had Rod Stewart haircuts. The name or term "Faces" was slang for hipster.
Wow they're so young here, its nice to see 1974 again. Yes Fil that was really laid back. The keys were perfect and did alot to pull that off while the drums blended in so well. Rod Stewart's voice is a great contributor to the music industry, and Keith is a rock mainstay. 1974 was quite a good time for music. TYVM Fil !! ✌

You go Ronnie !!! Bless you brother !!!
Everything sounded really good. The guitars were really emotive. I really enjoyed this.
Really enjoy your videos. You do such a great job, thanks
Yes he does Liz 💕
Rod's voice so powerful
First band I ever saw, Aug 73 Doncaster, Top Rank., I queued all day for a ticket. I was buzzin' the next day at school. Loved his music from the moment I first heard Maggie May on the chart rundown on a Sunday teatime in 1971!
Great track!! Stay with me is such an awesome jam. One of my personal favorites.
Great singer and band. Rod just has such an distinct voice and stage presence.
Thanks Fil for a another informative analysis. You rock. 🤘🏻
Fil you legend so glad youve done an analysis on the faces, keep up the good work i love what you do!x
And Rod is still singing. And the band members are still playing, even though maybe not together. Wonderful music no matter the configuration.
Damn! Saw these guys at the Boston Garden in '75. Peter Frampton was the opener. Tickets were $7.50.
swoon~ Rod ... my future hubby (he has no idea) Been diggin him for about 40 years !! Timeless*
Saw them in 1971 in S.F. ♥️. What a great clip this is.
Etta and Rod both own this song ❤️ but... Rod is taking us to church on this performance 🙌
TYVM Fil !! ✌
I see that SRV Tshirt!! Thanks for this one..had long escaped my mind.
One of my all time favorites..saw the Faces live twice..ronnie wood isn't a rolling stone...hes rod Stewart's guitar player not jaggers.
Nice! Didn’t realize Rod Stewart was as good w/a mic stand as Steven Tyler! 😂 Rod’s bluesy rasp here is so good!
Where do you think Tyler got it from.
Tony Mcgeachin No clue. 😂
Faces band made one of my favorite albums Ooh la la, Rod S. vocals are are great and favorite. This was a nice slow song, good point about the drummer and bass, the backbone of any band, holding the tempo solid, good video
I'd love to hear your take on
"Joe Brown"
"In The Jailhouse Now"
from Liverpool.
