For anyone interested, Jack did an analysis on his own channel deciding between the updated Spectral and the older Strive, really quite interesting to hear his insights and understand why exactly he went to the Strive again… he mentions if he was on home trails that he knew, the Spectral would be the faster bike he reckons.

Great point! Worth noting to mention that he said this due to the spectral being more progressive and less forgiving in trails where you're riding them for the first or second time, and the strive's extra travel and shorter wheelbase lets him maneuver around unexpected obstacles easier.

The spectral by all modern standards is supposed to be amazing, its a 29er, looong wheel base and slack head angle. Guess what ol jacky boy said??? He said the long and slacker geo actually made the bike preform worse because it was so much slower when I came to taking quick turns etc. which is why he went with the strive. I think people just need to understand that all these technicalities make near to no difference in your riding. For these PROS, maybe, but if you ride for fun then who cares if a bike is "outdated".

The Strive had 150mm rear travel with a rear shock with 60mm stroke - Jack´s Strive and all Strives from 2021 has a rear shock with 65mm stroke, meaning 8.3% more. Yes the relation to travel might not be proportional, but in reality the rear travel is closer to 160mm then 150mm. Why Canyon do not advertise this might have something to do with the release of the new Spectral... :P Not that this takes anything away from Jack´s awesome performance!
