Hi Fred! Thanks for this Main Ave drive. I lived in Passaic from 1974 to 1990. Went to Pope Pius, then Passaic High and NJIT. I used to walk from Pope Pius which was on First Street to home on Lafayette Ave. It took me an hour to get home. It was a great and fun city to live in. Thanks for nostalgic drive.
Yeah! You went past my street. That big brick building on the left was once Inwood Knitting Mills. The guys used to open the windows and shout at the passing ladies. There was a Carvel across the street. When I was about 13 I went to Capri, which was a hair salon and school. I had really long hair, and they used me as a model for the students. I probably had 5 different hair cuts that day. Across the street from Capri was a Good Deal grocery store. I remember seeing posters for upcoming Cassius Clay fights. Then past the water commission, there was a bakery surplus place called the Budget Bakery. They sold mainly Entenmann's and Dolly Madison products. The Montauk Theater on Main in Passaic showed adult films. There was a cute boutique a couple of doors down from there called Treasure Trove. That was as far into Passaic as we were willing to go on the bus without an adult as it was starting to get sketchy by then. We were always creeped out by the guys standing around the theater. We no longer did our back-to-school shopping in downtown Passaic; by then we went to the Willowbrook Mall.
My mom and I enjoyed watching this video Freddy. When we lived there, there used to be a Bradley's where Kohls is located now. A lot of new businesses. Great video. We used to spend a lot of time in Passaic, Clifton and a pretty park in Nutley.
A lot of changes over the years! Glad the White Castle is still there - we would walk from South Paterson to get those wonderful hamburgers! Oh, how I miss them!
Funny how that is. When we have access to them, we don't think about it too much. When we don't have access, we miss it so much. My son says the same thing. When he comes to visitfrom Miami , he buys white castles to bring back home.
Freddy. Brings back some good memories in a land long ago and far far away! All those street names are familiar to me…Lived off of Hazel Street on Prospect street as a youngster…I do remember Clifton pool and going there as a kid..used to go to the Corral hot dog place all the time…Still There? My grandparents were bury in that cemetery…
Thank you for watching! Stay tuned. There are a lot of videos coming out. I did a video at the Corral. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/iwAW0f8IGYI/видео.html
I remember going this route a lot with my dad. He was a janitor and there were a lot of offices and stuff we worked in Passaic and Nutley. Definitely remember the White Castle, I was wondering if it was still there and Clifton HS on the right
I always got a kick out of how Main Ave went from Paterson to Clifton to Passaic and back to Clifton again. Guess the Passaic River had a lot to do with that. I seem to recall the Clifton Pool being located down near the city line with Passaic. Not far from where the Passaic-Clifton Herald News built their office and printing plant in the late 50's I think. I recall at the time the Newspaper built that facility as close to the city line as possible to show impartiality to either city. Even then they tried not to be political. I used to contribute articles to their readers editorial pages back then too. I think your camera angle is fine. Too wide and the details to the sides are harder to see. I like to catch the street signs myself as you drive around. Happy motoring.
I see that big tall brown building is still there, also when I was a kid /teen there were railroad tracks on the left going through a parking lot, I know they are gone now
There was a place called Pappy's Diner in Totowa, where they served Texas Weiners. I remember that there was a fenced-in park close by where there were Deer. Do you know where that was?
Pappy’s is at the corner of Union Ave & Totowa Rd (not to be confused with Totowa Ave, which intersects Totowa Rd not far from Union Ave). As for a fenced in park with deer, I have no knowledge of that, although you said maybe mid-60’s, and I wasn’t even born until 78. Only guess I would have is that the Laurel Grove Cemetery (which is on Totowa Rd, Between Totowa Ave and Union Ave) is mostly fenced in, and there are TONS of deer within the cemetery. At the back end of the cemetery which faces Rt 80, there is even a big deer statue in one area of graves. There also a bunch of wild turkeys, fox an occasional pheasant, and other assorted small wild game. It’s a beautiful cemetery and I know it well, as a majority of my family is buried there, and I own 3 plots there myself.
I really enjoy your videos. Brings back many memories during my upbringing in Paterson. Sad, though, that the quality of your videos, sorry to say, aren't that sharp. They look blurred somewhat and kinda foggy.
Thank you so much..I couldn't sleep 😂 so I decided to take a look at passaic.Ilived there since 1969 on 3rd.st.then in 1972 I came to Chicago but I miss my Passaic.can u do a video on 3rd st please????
Hi Fred I lived in Passaic back in the 60's and 70 's in second ward park. Madison St. and Lafayette Ave. Maybe you can do one of that area. I went to #11 school, #4 Lincoln Junior High and Passaic High. Thanks the memories
Truth be told, I never even noticed that bracket until you pointed it out. If you could find a middle point between both views, I would like that. Otherwise, as long as I can see both sides of the street and feel like I'm riding along in your car, I'm fine.
Hi brother I grow up in Paterson I used to run 🏃♂️ main st in Paterson all the way to passac NJ ,I move to Florida and I been south 4 30 years now I'm moving back to nj

I’m thinking Totowa Ave right past the Paterson border maybe?
@@PrideInPaterson I dont remember , its been a long long time. Mid 60's

@@steveperry9304 Thanks! That is exactly the place. If I remember correctly it was a black fence.
@@scat4me yep, the cemetery is mostly surrounded by a black wrought iron fence 👍

I believe you can change the quality of the video by clicking on settings and choosing 1080p.
In the past few years the Paterson part has changed a lot but the Clifton & Passaic part haven’t changed much as long as I can remember.
Just a little

We have so many delicious authentic Mexican restaurants here!
