  • Douglas Harding, the renowned experiential philosopher of nondual seeing, is interviewed here in this 1994 video by Kriben Pillay and Michael Adams on the topic of creativity.
Harding, famous for his practical experiments for facilitating seeing who we really are, was hosted by Kriben Pillay and the Department of Drama at the former University of Durban-Westville (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal) in Durban, South Africa.
Harding stayed a week with Pillay and a week with Adams, during which time he gave a number of workshops at local academic institutions, including a weekend retreat at the Buddhist Retreat Centre, near Ixopo in the Natal Midlands.
Exploring the source of creativity, Harding uses Shakespeare's lines ''But man, proud man'... from Measure for Measure to make the point that Shakespeare was pointing to the same place, the 'glassy essence', that his seeing exercises were pointing to, allowing many to see directly who we really are, that is, the awareness prior to thinking.
