    I just quit my job and left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make general construction difficult if not impossible.
    My first project is a 12' by 16' cabin using the BUTT AND PASS method with raw logs. It will include a sleeping loft and a steel roof. I will not be milling or saddle notching the logs, but chinking in the small gaps that do appear with the butt and pass method with raw logs. This method's main advantage is SPEED.
    To all my viewers and subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

    Good on you for the re-construction!!!

    Told my husband you had to rebuild, he stopped what he was doing and said ‘what’s happened? Because we are all responsible if we didn’t point it out’
    We would like to apologise for not noticing but offer huge congratulations that you smashed the rebuild in the time you did. Can’t wait for next week. 🎉🎉

      Surely quite a few folk were seeing the gaps and saying, meh well must just be how it is as we know no better. Makes sense it was wrong now though, in hindsight.

    James, I’m in awe of your grit and determination, there was no whining about the lesson with the logs, you just got on with it and reassembled correctly, which was 100% the right decision and made a huge difference. Such strength of character to share the reality and just get on with it. However l felt disheartened for you and so wished l was there to help rebuild. I’m pleased to see your log ladder, safety and well being in mind, I’m hoping you’ll have help with the higher logs.
    Thanks for sharing l look forward to seeing you and your challenges each week, I’m surprised there’s been no wildlife though, other than a few birds. Stay safe

    Consider drilling your logs while their on the saw- horse so you don't have to sit on those logs up in the air. Also maybe move the saw-horse closer to the cabin so your only lifting the logs off the ground once!!! Anyway your killing it & love the content

      @Westberg1 8 месяцев назад +3

      @ike8236 Yeah, and he also drills through two layers at once, so it would be very difficult to align the holes if they would be pre-drilled

    Great video! The cabin is looking amazing! Fun fact about the naming of the days of the week: In Swedish the name for Saturday is "lördag" which means "bath-day" and comes from the old Swedish tradition of bathing on Saturdays. The other days of the week are named after Norse gods just like in English.

    I like how you made the escalator to gradually bring the logs up to the top. The stops surely helped a lot! Seen couple builds where other logs were used to roll one log up, but it was just brute force on one go, or using straps to hitch 'em up. Need to remember this one when I have the opportunity to build my own.

    Well done recognizing the mistake, and choosing the more difficult and rewarding path of correcting it. Leaving it as it was would likely have caused issues later on, and would be a constant source of annoyance to anyone who had an ounce of integrity in them. Now you can say you proceeded to the best of your ability, and be proud of that. Again, well done.
