- Instruction for removing, cleaning, and reinstalling the front load washing machine door gasket on an LG washer.
Video shows how to perform this without needing to remove any top or front panels and using basic hand tools.
Here's the new video showing detailed views on how to attach the inner spring clamp:

Wow it's a whole operation. Wasn't expecting that.
Big fat nope for me!
I just need to unclog my drain so taking the front spring off to access is all I need. I will just scrub and wipe the gasket down with a bleach solution with back spring intact. 😂
Exact video I needed. Thank there vids show taking the top and whole front off the washer but in my case the dryer is stacked on top so needed a better way. Now I know it is possible. Thank you!
Very welcome! Yes the back and top covers come off easily for more access, but not required.
Thanks for the video! I don't have the tools so I have to get a repairman to do it for me, but this definitely looks do-able for next time
@@Deadbeatcow make sure to watch the linked video about reattaching the inner spring clamp. Should give a good idea on difficulty level. The rest is easy enough.
Thank you for this video! Now I need to know how to remove the agitators on the inside of the drum to clean under them.
@@TheMelaniebarber1 thanks! I've been thinking about making that video too
Thanks a lot for the video. I really appreciate it!
Good to know how to do this!
Great vid, thanks!
@@MrBebawp you're very welcome!
That inner spring ring clamp is whooping my butt right now…… ohhhh lawd
If you need better access, you can take the top panel off. I agree it's the hardest part!
@@realhouseDIY Yeah, I wound up taking the top and front panel off to get to it. Though it was extra steps, it felt a bit quicker. This video was great though! I accidentally popped the seal of while cleaning and had no clue how to get it back on, this got me in the right direction!
Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for the information
Thank you! Helpful!
Wish I had my old top loader!! This nasty gasket is such a poor design. Clean clothes have to exit directly over it. 😮
@@suzannemcginnis2790 we've had amazing results by always leaving the door open to dry out, and running the basement dehumidifier next to it. Still occasionally need to wipe it out and make sure the drainage holes are clear. 🙂
Hey, thanks for the video.
Have you taken off the baffles to clean before? Can’t get those off
@@shanevanrickley9709 I believe the LG ones screw on from outside the drum. So you would need to disassemble the drum. A decent account of work.
Very helpful video! I've been dealing with a nasty gasket for a while now. I've cleaned all I've could with it attached and now know how to take off! Wish me luck tho. May need assistance getting it off and on. Aweful design really!
Do you know if there is a way to take out the drum? I've cleaned using the washing machine "pucks" you can buy but I think I need to take out the drum and deep clean under it too
Yes, the inner clamp is difficult to deal with.
I haven't removed the drum, but I have another video replacing the inlet valves and take the top cover off (very easy). Might be able to see how much additional work it could be. Surprisingly empty inside.
Very useful. Question: can you do a cleaning only by removing the front ring and cleaning the front part of the seal. It is the front of the seal in my machine that is really nasty. I just want to get in the crevices.
It's worth trying. That first clamp at the front is very easy to take off and put back on. And then see if it allows enough movement to clean what you need.
@@realhouseDIY This worked for me - the drain in the gasket was totally clogged on mine, but I was able to get in and remove and clean out the drain line by just taking off the front clamp. Thanks so much for your video - it saved me a bunch of money!
Thank you!
It’s hard to reconnect the rear spring clamp
@@Willy876ful yes it is but it's possible even with basic tools (took me a while the first time). Check out my new video specifically with tips to reconnect it.
Reattaching the hose clamp is near impossible. I have good hand strength (woman) from Olympic lifting and I can’t reattach the hose clamp watching this video.
First time I did it took 20 minutes. Yes, it's difficult. Last resort, you can take the top off the washer and have more access from the top. Very simple to take off that large panel.
There should be an easier way to clean this gasket. It’s a stupid design.
Yes definitely. The inner clamp is tough to deal with.
The whole washing machine is stupid. If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying a regular top loader with an agitator. And it's not even just for me because I live at home lol
@@annonimiss6422 only problem with some of the new top loaders (beside water usage) is they can pull stitching out of some towels. No idea why.
All front load washers are designed like this.
I’d rather deal with this gasket than have a top load. The old top load center agitators used to work the clothes but the new ones look just wiggle the clothes around regardless of how you loaded the washer. At least with a front load you know it is tumbling the clothes. Just my preference.
You show the insertion of the inner ring clamp but you then sort of skip over the process of connecting the ends of the clamp. All I know is you used a vise grip (what is it gripped to?) to somehow bring together and connect the ends. I'd sure like to see a video of how you accomplished this most frustrating (and seemingly impossible) feat. Any advice you can give me here would be much appreciated. Thanks.
@@swingblakester right, it was a difficult camera angle to get while trying to work in there so wasn't helpful to include in the video. The vice grip I put between the round end and the spring. If you have access to take the top panel off it may help. I'll think about making another video with the top panel off so I can get a good camera angle. Thanks for the feedback!
@@realhouseDIY I haven't even gotten to the point of reconnecting the ends (using an expansion tool). After hours and hours of unsuccessfully trying to get the inner ring situated in it's groove on the seal, I have determined there is some trick to it that I haven't figured out, or it's just flat-out impossible. I've concluded the only way to replace that ring is to remove the top and front of the washer. But before I resort to that, please tell me if there is indeed a trick, and if so, what the heck is it????
@@swingblakester the top is typically very easy to remove so might help see what's going on. But there's no trick to it. Just fits around the white drum lip then should stay seated well while getting the clamp on.
@@realhouseDIY I think I’m having similar issue. The problem is as you’re working the lip around the white portion, just when you think you’re done, a part of the lip somewhere else in the circle pops out. Then you go to reinsert that part of the lip and then it pops out in another place. It’s a nonstop wacka mole. where you’re just
hoping that the tension holds, and you can get it fully insert it all the way around without it popping out somewhere
The seal has an arrow shape on the top of it (directly opposite the drain). Does the inner ring go in the groove behind that arrow, or does the ring go in the groove in front of it?
Thanks!
You're welcome, and thank you!
Hi there i have one question can one still wasch even when the Washing machine its rubber have seal dents right at the Front and left Up above ?
Thanks in advance
@@neelemjean5288 I suppose as long as the clamps are secure so it doesn't leak. And no actual holes in the seal.
@@realhouseDIYHi there thanks a Lot for Ur quick Respond ,is there a way for me to send u the Photos so that U can Take a closer Look at it?
@@neelemjean5288 if you have RUclips app on your phone I think you could just upload a video. Then delete it anytime. Not sure about photos
For anyone considering trying this: Don’t.
The “fast-forward” part where you have to reinsert the gasket into the white lip and connect the rear wire spring is utterly Sisyphean.
@@bmartz1 new video will be up later today to address this and showing details and good camera angle. 🙂
I'll agree it's not for everyone, but should be doable for anyone working on projects around the house.
@@realhouseDIY after 2 days I got it done. One additional note: newer LG washers now have this y shaped plastic frame that the gasket connects to when it is slotted into the drum that makes the process even harder. You should check that out.
Hi, I have an 8kg LG, washing machine, the gasket of this machine is ripped off and I also have a 7 kg LG washing machine that I don't use, it's motor is damaged but the gasket in this 7kg is fairly new. My question is, can I swap the gaskets from the 7kg machine to put on the 8kg machine?
I'm pretty sure the capacity difference is the depth of the drum (assuming same model year, model family). I would take measurements of each gasket (diameter and depth) and if the same go for it.
I don’t have time for all this 😩
Why is my seal loose even after I put the spring back?
The inner spring clamp? Make sure the seal orientation is correct and over the lip on the drum.
I would not suggest attempting this without spring pliers. It’s stupidly hard without them.
This 100 times. Taking the gasket off and cleaning the tub took me an hour. Putting back the spring literally took two.
@@carriemarvill I'm planning a new video to include this info. I've done this cleaning twice since owning the washer and maybe 10 minutes at most to attach the spring clamp using a couple hand tools. Good option to include both methods.
I'm not sure why this video is rated as heplfull. I've just wasted 1h30 trying to do it without removing the front door. I honestly think it is not possible. Maybe someone who really know what he is doing can do it, but for most people i think it is not realistic. I bought a new one (kind of stiff), so maybe with an old one already shaped correctly (and soft), you can do it this way, but i wouldn't count on that. Dont waste your time and remove the front door, do it properly, you will save time. You can find how to do it in many other videos. You're welcom!
@@Mcblounnn at least on this particular model it's not as simple as just removing the front door. It would require the top panel to be removed, then the control panel, then the front panel. It saves me an hour doing it this way, although with just the top panel off (2 screws) you get a lot more access to the top of the gasket. This method is also a must if you have a shelf or stacked dryer on top.
@@realhouseDIY My 15 yr old and I removed and cleaned the gasket in about 15 minutes with your video on the top of the washer for reference... Only thing that I would add is that (as we found) some of the models have side drains that have a clamp to remove as well. Ours also had a light in the top that had to be popped out of the gasket. Otherwise, perfect thanks!!
@@KidzRemielShow thanks for the feedback!
Don’t make it complicated, and take the front panel out :)
At least on my model, that requires taking a lot more off than just the front panel.
@@realhouseDIY I know that. But that’s a extra 15-20 minutes in exchange of comfort
@@badboidenis I hear you. Good idea... I'll plan another video just showing how to take off the panels and link it. Some folks a bit intimidated to take apart too much.
Can you show it doing laundry
Just a terrible how to video. Absolutely no tips or advice.
