I started using the provided cup & regular coffee, which makes me feel like I’m not flushing money away. Also, since it takes a bit longer to prepare, I’m less likely to make a cup of coffee that I don’t really want.

I don't believe that the pods are as bad as tea bags. The hot water passes through the pod where as the tea bag sits in hot water for an undetermined amount of time.

I’ve wondered about this same thing when it comes to my drip coffee maker. The pot is glass but pretty much every other part on it is made out of plastic. Maybe I should switch to a percolator like my dad, it makes good coffee and everything inside and out is stainless steel.

It doesn't go through the foil and the plastic. It goes through the holes that the Keurig pierces when you insert the k-cup into the machine. But I agree about the plastic. Same argument as Teflon argument.

Be forewarned that the stainless steel capsules for the Nespresso machines from Amazon can permanently damage the parts that puncture the bottom of capsules; therefore, make sure they're retrofitted.

I got away from drip coffee makers because it was just too easy to make a mess on the kitchen counter top, especially if I was in a hurry and especially if I was grinding my own beans. Still way cheaper than Starbucks, especially if you buy in bulk at Costco.
No, once a month run bleach treated water through the tank, about a cap full. Then run twice with just water, no mold. Besides, I just boil water and then pour it over the grounds. Don't even plug in the maker.
There's only so much we can control. We can't control what our city pipes are made of, but we can control what we buy. There's no way to get around plastic in our water anymore, but at least we're reducing one thing that makes it worse. Plus the reduction in waste. We just have to keep trying

I quit using pods a year ago. Not only is it better for the environment to get away from filling land fills with plastic waste but I get way better coffee with fresh ground beans. I use the mesh k cup that came with the kuerig but am going to check out the stainless ones.
Why stop there. The machine is made out of plastic and rubber or plastic tubing. If you don’t thoroughly clean after every use, you could pick up pathogens, molds bacteria in and on the top of the machine. Your best bet is just stay in bed. It’s safer there.
We use the larger nespresso pods, which taste much better, are at least recyclable, and fully aluminum. That aluminum is much thicker (at least to my eyes) than K-cup pods. That’s gotta help, right!?

Yeah the paper cups are very more safer because they don’t use glue to hold them together, they use magic
Ceramic melitta filter holder and water boiled in a steel or ceramic hot pot is the way I go. No mess! Just throw the filter away or you can compost.
Water boils in a plastic container inside most of the coffee maker. So the use of a steel filter has no point.
Also, they are filled with some sort of cottony fiber and who knows what is in that
