    Excellent. I like shorter native perennials that won’t flop.

    Thank you for the video. This is a plant one normally doesn't hear much about. I just bought 6 plants in 3 inch pots to place in a special shady spot. I came across this video doing a search for the plant. You produced a very good, informative video. Much appreciated!

    I love all Monarda but I only recently discovered this variety in June. I drove to my mothers new property hours away. There were miles and miles of this specific bee balm blooming along the rural roads in full sun and deep deep shade. I also noticed patches of echinacea pallida blooming at the same time but not nearly as much as these pale pinkish gorgeous bee balms. I grabbed some seed heads a few months later and scattered them all over my own property. I hope to notice them everywhere this spring as i have never seen them growing wild in my area (nw LA).

      That's amazing! I haven't been lucky enough to see these in the wild. Glad you were able to find seed, that's great! And yes they do bloom around the same time as echinacea pallida. Really one of my absolute faves. ☺️

    Great video! I plan to add a variety of Bee Balm to my rewilded yard but will have to look for a different species as I live in the Houston TX area. Do you have a recommendation?

      Check out if monarda fistulosa is native where you are, or maybe lemon bee balm, monarda citriodora. You can google the name of the plant, and then BONAP, and it will give you a map. Cheers!

    I bought bright magenta be balm from a garden center in Massachusetts is where i have planted it on the place bed. It had blooms all over in June but now nothing. I deadheaded it but haven't seen any new but in a week. I initially watered it a lot but read somewhere it needs infrequent deep watering sand that's what o have been doing for 2 weeks or so. Would you invite why isn't it blooming? Would it still live and be ok next season?

      As a perrenial, Monarda blooms once a year for three weeks. If you want something that blooms longer you can try anise hyssop, I have another video about that one.
      I don't recommend deadheading monarda, just let the blooms produce seeds for the birds next year. ☺️

    I planted some monardas,the short and red kind. It’s very prone to powdery mildew. I need to take them out. Is this kind of monarda mildew resistant?

    • @lisalikesplants
      @lisalikesplants  2 месяца назад

      All Monarda tend to get powdery mildew but there are some new cultivars of red bee balm that have mildew resistance. It's just cosmetic and doesn't hurt the plant usually.

      @@lisalikesplants Some RUclips video said the powdery mildew ended up affecting surrounding plants too, which makes me concerned.

      I'm in Zone 5b northern Illinois! This plant is native a little further south of me but is still very beneficial and hardy in 5b. Just collected seed this week to make more next year!

      Love your focus on native plants. The zone map was very helpful! I hope many of the plants you mentioned are native to Long Island NY too
