These guys have some serious fashion sense. I always dressed like them in My junior year in high-school; suits & ties got the girls attention in school, & I had no shame in My game. Heaven 17's music, kept Me out of trouble & away from the bloods & the crips. As seasons must change, in late '89, a judge sent Me to Job Corps, which changed my life; then Metal choe Me. Am I ashamed for listening to Heaven 17, or any of the New Wave bands I've encountered? No. 80's music, made Me a better person.
FUN FACT: When this aired "Solid Gold" received a record number of complaints. It was from people who misheard the chorus, "we live so fast / motion! motion!" as "we live so fast / bullshit! bullshit!"
I would have loved to have this song playing in 1985 when we all left the stage after receiving our graduated degrees in Business Administration...this song playing as we exited the auditorium....man, that would have been it.
I had the luck of meeting the Lead singer and Lead in London some years ago. Wonderful humble guy's. Amazed and surprised that they were remembered. A quiet Cafe and them. I had to say hello, and they were cool. A great day in Notting Hill
There were a few bands from across the pond in the 1980's that were dapper and clean cut and sounded super. There's something so appealing about it. In a landscape of clones in weathered black leather, old ragged denim, and messy moussed 'dos ... well, these gents stood out like a diamond.
I think they should have won an award as one of the best dressed groups from the '80s. Come to think of it their clothes are so fresh they could walk down the street in those suits and not look out of place in the least. A true testament to good style!
Martyn Ware is doing ALL THE WORK in this video. It's like any minute he's going to kick the synth out of his way and start busting moves. Everybody else is just standing there.
This song sounds So Fast as we do in a modern society, which used to hurry a disco-goer like me into schizophrenic dance on the floor in the mid 80s. But it takes me back to such a good prime time of mine and, it is not bad to listen to for me even now at age of 45, even though I can't dance anymore like I would back in the day. Anyway, thanks for posting !
Love this video, the 80s were the best decade ever for music!
Heaven 17 was really doing something cutting edge with this song

2021 and it’s still a fucking awesome tune.
According to Glenn Gregory; "Bill Gerber was the drummer, he was our our American Manager... he's now a Hollywood Film Producer."
I love this band so much! ❤❤❤
