    If Google wants only well deserved apps on Play Store, they should just have a policy if the app has no one downloading or actively using for a year, then it will be taken down.

      The hardest part is to make them use it for at least 2 weeks.

    Your first suggestion is the exact issue with this policy, making it so hard to get past the ideation stage will just cause people to not try new ideas. Some ideas are not well defined until they are written into code and tested in production and iterated upon. This is what pivoting in startups is all about. Platforms should provide space for experimentation. I understand some testers, but why 20? That is the sort of safe and round number not based on any evidence that could have only come up from a middle management meeting.

    • @robertkluttz8313
      @robertkluttz8313 8 месяцев назад +8

      I think the problem here is the whole app-store paradigm, not the application creation. Android (and iOS) are just OS's on small computers that also happen to be phones. The entire idea of a company having control over what you can and cant do with a device that you own is ludicrous. Sideloading, otherwise known simply as installing a program on any other non-phone or tablet device, should be implicit. Ability to lock out the creator of the device should be as well. App store usage should be optional, not a requirement.

    Just when we were about to publish our company's android app, we find out apparently we need a freaking DUN's number that we didn't know we would need. Forcing us to wait 1 month or pay 230 dollars. This is called extortion and coercion. This procedure just makes everyone's life more difficult. • @tldrandroid
      @tldrandroid  11 месяцев назад +2

      Ah, I see. Your account is new. I wouldn't recommend creating another random account to sidestep anything. Even though it stinks up front, I would go through the steps as Google has prescribed them. Google does not take kindly to people it detects has tried to duck the rules and often permanently terminates them. Stick with it, work with them, and you'll have a good, long-standing status with them.

      We ended up paying $240 for expedited process. However, the customer support guy who was filling out the form for me over the phone call wrote down an incorrect company number with a spelling error and letters missing. I had to call them 2 or 3 times asking them to fix my company name. It took about 12 days of struggling and waiting, so if you're going to pay for expedited process and your project is time sensitive MAKE SURE they get your company name right or you'll end up paying money and still losing time.

    The requirement is that each of the 20 testers must have been opted-in continuously for the last 14 days. This means that each tester needs to use the app continuously for 14 days, ensuring they provide feedback consistently over that period. It's not about random usage by different testers, but rather about ensuring sustained engagement from each individual tester over the specified timeframe.

    So let me get this straight, I have to do this for every single android app I want to upload, while organizations can just upload apps with no verified testing? I don't understand how that improves the situation at all since I would assume that most of the crap, soul less apps are from software factories that can be verified as an organization.
    Also the notion that you should know whether or not there is a demand for your app before developing it is laughable. Am I really supposed to do market research? What's wrong with there being apps no one uses on the app store? If the issue is about apps not working like they are supposed to, then it just seems irrelevant. Again, seems strange to me since app factories are organizations that can churn our ad-laden garbage at record speeds, and these rules don't even apply to them.
    Lastly, I haven't heard 2 words about how this benefits me at all. Does it help with my visibility? I'm 15 years late to the game, and the app store already has millions of apps to compete with. Even if this were a good idea, Google took way too long to make this change.

      This only applies for new accounts wanting to publicly release a new app, not for app updates. Once your app is approved for production release, you should be good, unless you break some sort of Google Play policy in the future.

If the first occasion on a particular day takes place later than 10pm local time then the process has failed and they must start over at day 1.

  • @tomq6491

    When you did the comparrison to Windows Store 7:06, you acknowledged that the first few rows were high quality apps. tbh most people, most of the time don't scroll past the first few rows anyhow. Even beyond this there were good quality apps mixed in with others. You were able to filter out by user rating, recognition, presentation etc. those apps that were probably not great. These factors allow people to gauge the quality already. If they do try something new, then it might not be great but might be decent and it allows recognition for new developers. A few years back the Windows Store had some fake apps, e.g. pay money to launch a free app, that should be filtered, but then these don't need 20 people testing over 14 days. Also a free app that doesn't have any sort of adult, third party or money making content or asks for personal information is not going to be exploitative. The way that Google do things, it stops any new developers without a ridiculous amount of money from becoming successful. I would make the same argument for new web developers who don't have a fortune to spend on add words, SEO etc.

    Perhaps my situation is quite unusual, but I teach people coding in clubs and camp sessions. So I actually want to make simple, derivative apps and games, that are easy to make and publish within a short period, to inspire young, enthusiastic prodigies to do likewise. We all need to start somewhere. Considering how they teach computing in schools and Harvard, I am sure at one stage even the likes of Zuckerburg was making a simple "hello world" program in Scratch at one point and then do similar for web and then smartphone use. They are creating barriers for young new developers to start. It is as if they only want large corporations to have any chance... wait, this is Google, ahh, it is becoming clear now.
