The 2nd movie has pacing issues. 2 hours is too long and it is too serious for that level of direct to video acting and the creatures not as detailed. But the action is very good and with some tightening or at least better acting the serious approach could have worked. I think there are pros and cons too both. The no monster mark dacascos action film "drive" is my favorite Steve Wang movie. With near hong kong movie level fight scenes. Have yet to see kung fu rascals but it looks like a goofy one. Which I can handle. Ofcourse this is just my take.
As others have said in the comments, Guyver 2 : Dark Hero is waaaaaaay better. It's directed by Steve Wang who did Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Amazing action and great monster and guyver suit effects. David Hayter, Solid Snake himself, is the lead Sean Barker. Personally I think it's the best anime/manga live action movie adaptation made outside of Japan. Not for accuracy but for fun and cool factor.
Like Anime, Tokusatsu is a medium, not a genre and it's certainly not fully cultural by nature. Tokusatsu, like Anime, can come from anywhere so long as someone with a good idea comes along and wants to make something special to cast out into the world.
Guyver 2 dark hero is amazing. Love the practical effects and fight choreography. The first guyver movie was more like a running start and the sequal is where they figured out the charm. Wish they continued with a 3rd movie going in that direction but it was scrapped 😞
I certainly don't mind only getting a short blip, it's cool to see my little indie project alongside a bunch of larger more "legitimate" projects. Thanks for getting a kick from Super Task Force One!
"Just don't ask about the sequel" what??? The second movie is way way better than the first. Maybe not as impressive with the practical effects, but it makes up for it with a much better story, action choreography, and gore.
I would love to se a new modern take on Mystic Knights! I like there was a sort of reference to them in Power Rangers Hyper Force with the Arthurian Legend Power Knights.
Some updates on the Vietnamese Toku scene: -There's some new shows on the block: Vệ Nhân (Vanguard) which had a webmovie and an upcoming comic, and Visorman, which had it's first episode aired on this year's Lunar New Year. -Chiến Thần Lạc Hồng (Mighty Guardian: Lost Avian) finally got an actual short film coming soon! The name of this short film will be called Vùng Đất Không Thần (No God's Land) which weirdly enough, is a spinoff of the series before the actual series comes out XD. Either way, the film is giong to be centered around the 2 aforementioned Guardians: Alpine Deity Junior and Aqua Deity and if everything's going smoothly, it's coming out at the end of this year!
Dude you have it backwards. Guyver 2 Dark Hero is the one fans love, its the first film that they dont. You need to watch Dark Hero asap. Its way more faithful to the source material. Its out on DVD from Warner Archive and David Hayter is the Guyver. You're gonna love it! Trust us!
Thank you for Episode 4 in this beloved Series. Could you maybe, somewhere down the Line, make an Episode 4.5, where you talk about all the Shows that where "Upcoming" that you mentioned in Episodes 1, 2 and 3, but who have by now been released?
I got some more Toku you can review . Battle Strike Team Rescue Engine 🇨🇳 Armor Hero XT, Lava, and Captor 🇨🇳 Erexion 🇰🇷 And Vector Man 🇰🇷 And Satria Naga 🇮🇩 And the Armor Hero movies! Emperor movie, Atlas movie, and King Captor movie 🇨🇳
1:37 You're like the first person I ever came across who considers the first Guyver film better than Guyver: Dark Hero as the sequel tends to be considered the superior film.
Kind of off the reservation but Stargate SG-1 might "technically" be called American Tokusatsu, though not of the Sentai or Kamen Rider variety. It does have bad guys in suits (at times), but the Tokusatsu ties come from its use of clearly budgeted special effects and sets. Though warning about the first episode, it's better to watch the "Children of the Gods - The Final Cut" version, since the original premiered at first on Showtime and the channel forced them to put in some stuff that did not belong and did not fit with the tone of the rest of the series afterward (if you know Showtime's rep you know exactly what sorts of stuff I mean), the Final Cut was pet project by the creators where they went back and were able to delete certain things from the episode that didn't work while smoothing some rough edges made in that initial pilot episode. Again it's sort of off the classic Tokusatsu formula, but similar in production.
My god I was just thinking of that movie Guyver. I have never know what it was but I saw it as a kid and thought it was awesome but again never knew what it was, So I can't find it and you told me. Im going to watch it right now. thank you
We need a remake of Mystic Knight of tir na nog. I don't think people understand how fire that show was. I always thought it was power rangers but with knights.
Hey man about mythos I don't know if you watch Chris's videos but but he said because of covid and a personal issues with the actors they decided not to push through for now so it could come back at some point you never know
For the longest time I have wanted SOMEONE to pick up the right or do a modern adaptation of the guyver! With the SFX nowadays coupled with some of the spectacular choreography I think I’d be amazing. Just as long as the still use some practical effect and not just full cgi, the creature transformation were beautiful for the time it was put out…plus skywalker turned into a bug! 😂
Armoured Hero Hunter is actually heavily criticised in its home country and widely regarded as the worst in the franchise, because of its messy story and failed character development
Theres another one like Bio kids There's Batang X which based on Xmen And if going with a super sentai feel Super Ranger kids Sarap maging bata nuung 90's sa pinas..
... why do you not like the sequel. Guyver 2: Dark Hero is actually good. David Hayter (THE SOLID SNAKE HIMSELF) stars in this movie. Plus it's (as the name states) darker and less campy than the first. C'mon, man. ... c'mon.
Wait so can you get promoted to do a show were it can be like these but do it like similar to super sentai or kamen rider?, if so if I got promotion to do a show that is similar to kamen rider then my show will be called 'kamen rider shades' a fashioned theme series 🕶️
I love the first Guyver but fitting in the theme of Original manga/anime.... I love Dark Hero so much. Sean is a lot better as serious threat to everything in the second movie and it gives me... early Heisei Kamen Rider vibes or rather Heisei Early Kamen Rider gives me Dark Hero vibes.
you know, i have been planning a tokusatsu of my own: ruclips.net/p/PLuxbaqfjKO6zXY-zU_q0qv-C4vEH32fvw but this time i wanna do it in live action, i call it Element Ninja-Warriors what do you think of this tokusatsu?
It's a live action adaptation of an anime/manga series. However, the adaptation is all American original footage, as opposed to Power Rangers being dubbed over Japanese footage mixed with American/New Zealand filmed footage.
You do realize that the American Guyver movies were based on a Japanese manga and anime right? I don't really know if that counts as either a Tokusatsu property nor a non-Japanese creation.

Very cool to see Red Fox mentioned. I actually did the suit acting in episode 2 so I’m glad to see you enjoyed it so much!

As an editor on the Fox 🦊 thank you for highlighting us! It means a lot!
The second Guyver movie is WAY better than the first, David Hayter is a much better Sean Barker IMO.
During that movie I half expected him to shot “LIQUID” or say “Kept you waiting high?”.
Loved that movie. Guyver was the first anime I had ever seen.

There's a channel here on RUclips that's a tokusatsu show called Kapten Justice. It's made by a guy in Indonesia who loves tokusatsu

The Kelly Family sung the Mystic Knights opening for the german version.
Has anyone remember or heard of tattoo alien fighters from Beverly Hills? From what I remember it’s seems to be inspired by Ultraman.
Only reason why I know that even exist is because of DBZA

Guyver movie IS ABSOLUTELY TOKUSATSU, not “sort of Tokusatsu”
Tokusatsu = Man in suits/Practical Effects
The Guyver's sequel is actually better, and features Solid Snake himself, David Hayter, in the lead role!
Kind of off the reservation but Stargate SG-1 might "technically" be called American Tokusatsu, though not of the Sentai or Kamen Rider variety. It does have bad guys in suits (at times), but the Tokusatsu ties come from its use of clearly budgeted special effects and sets.
