If it's some kind of contest...Rush wins all day, everyday. It's like comparing Tiny Tim to Stevie Ray Vaughn. I don't care who it may be in your particular case? But, your favorite band's favorite band is... Rush. If you can manage to put out 14 multi platinum records with very little radio play, and no women in the audience.... you're doing a lot more than the Allman brothers ever did
If it's band vs band, I'll always go with Rush no matter who the other band is. But Tom Sawyer vs Whipping Post means Allman Brothers win.
Tasha that Rush drummer is the late Neil Peart. One of the best drummers of all time!! RIP! 😊🙏
Peart could gauge how well the set was going to be by how well he got through this song. It is next level challenging.
Oooh! Have to change my vote to The Allman Brothers! One of my all time favorite songs by AB just happens to be Whipping Post. It's so soulful.
Tom Sawyer is a great track but whipping post by the allman bros is one of the best rock tracks in history
Yep. I mean Tom Sawyer is amazing, but Whipping Post is so great that the fight isn’t fair!
And they didn't even listen to the live version from Filmore East!
2 epic songs with top notch musicians. Once these musicians of this generation all pass away, there will be no replacing them. It's kind of sad that we got so spoiled with the legends of the 60s and 70s and today's music just doesn't compare! Yes we have some great musicians like Chris Stapleton, Beth Hart,Joe Bonamossa, etc but generally speaking it's over. We saw the best of the best, never to be matched again
You really cant compare these two songs: blues versus prog rock. But if I have to vote my choice goes to Rush.
By the time I got done listening to the masterpiece that is “Whipping Post”, I already forgot about the other song.
I love both songs but I got to give it to Tom Sawyer just because if so unique in it's sound I've heard a ton of songs like whipping post it's not something I haven't heard before
Tom Sawyer is a good song. But Whipping Post is so top tier. The lyrics, Gregg Allman’s voice and Duane Allman’s and Dickey Betts’ guitar playing all express the deep pain from a relationship gone way wrong.
Love Rush…. but The Allman Bros are my favorite band. That Rock Jazz Blues fusion is everything.
Had to pick... Allman Brothers
Have to go with Rush
ABB ~ 🎼🐐
Lyrics that hit the soul, two guitarists, two drummers, badass bass lines, B3 organ, and the voice of God. Not much of a competition, imho. 😉
This is horrible of you guys picking your favorite child
Of course Rush is my favorite kid
Lol
RUSH and The Almond Brothers were on different wavelengths. But damn this is great!
Allman
Drummer wise Rush everything else Allman
Hmmm, not great songs to battle each other. Tom Sawyer was revealing the future of sci-fi prog rock and Whipping Post is a straight up soul/blues jam fully embracing the history of the blues. Opposite intentions in these compositions.
New to your RUclips so forgive me. I grew up in the sixties and seventies, so of course I think we had the best music ever. If you have not, please try one, Janis Joplin. There has never been a voice like hers. Try the live version of Summertime or the live version of Ball and Chain. Ball and Chain was America's introduction to Janis. All the groups involved I the Monterey Pop Festival agreed she walked away with that festival in her pocket after Ball and Chain. Just a suggestion. Thank you and take care.
Greg Allman all day long. He, Dwayne and Barry Oakley were magic live.
Whipping Post is better.
Whipping Post is a great song, but Tom Sawyer is still big in pop culture today and was revolutionary in its day so Tom Sawyer for me.
I agree. However, the Allman Brothers were also revolutionary, creating the “Southern Rock” sound. Incorporating jazz, country and blues with rock. And contemporary musics are still recording their songs - Chris Stapleton doing his version of Whipping Post.
@Skydogfan true, they are considered the Godfathers of southern rock .
Allman brothers all day long.
As great as Rush is, I have to pick the Allman Brothers!!
You ought to listen to Chris Stapleton's cover of whipping post. It's hard to believe, but I might actually like his version better.
Tom Sawyer!!!! RIP Neil Peart.
Rush
Rush
Tom Sawyer... Though his mind is not for rent to any god or government...
Tom Sawyer
Well a 3 piece band Rush against a band with two exceptional lead guitarists, two drummers, Gregg Allman vocals and keyboard, Berry Oakley on bass the Allman Bothers, not fair.
This is a wild match. Completely different sounds, lol.
Not even close..the whipping post. ❤ bad ass jam.
Tom Sawyer vs. Whipping Post? Are you kidding me? How am I supposed to choose?? Both so good.
Sorry again. Completely forgot about The Camera Eye. and Vital Signs. Still the same album. The Camera Eye is as good or better than the Whipping Post.
God Bless y'all:) You're reaction videos are awesome! I'd love for you guys to react to Silence by Headnoise. They're a Christian Punk Rock group. This song is a major tear jerker but beautiful nonetheless:')
I know the Allman Brothers won but I went with Rush Tom Sawyer.
And it wasn't even the immortal version from "at Fillmore East".
Guys and gals, if you're gonna continue the battles with the ABB please go to the "at Fillmore East" first.
Sorry to disagree. Rush has WAY more Great songs and a greater catalog overall. This is BY FAR the best Allman Brothers song. Tom Sawyer is an above average Rush song. It's not even the best song on this album. YYZ, Red Barcheta, Witchhunt Limeliight are all better.
Rush will always be my favorite band but Whipping Post is the better song.
You ask me to pick??? How do you pick between the best apple and the best orange???
Rush is a three piece band. Extremely talented and cerebral individuals crafting the very best of progressive rock. Best percussionist in the business...ever...in my opinion.
The Allman Brothers Band took two men to fill each task performed by one man in Rush. This in no way should be taken as sign of diminished performance. Each member of ABB is accomplished and performed with a synchronicity rarely, if ever, seen. Sadly, two of the six members on the cover of this album were taken by Him in the next several years. Duane Allman was one of the finest to ever strap on a Les Paul. Barry Oakley laid the foundation for a phenomenal three man rhythm section which paired Jai Johnnie and Butch Truck as dual drummers. ABB was blues, jazz and rock fused.
I have seen both live...sadly missing Duane by a year or so. Each band's show stands strong in my memories. But they are two different types of music in the way I think, and very, very difficult to compare. Both bands are on my playlist and I hear something from one or the other almost daily. I could not choose one song over the other, although I do not this is the best representation of Rush.
I've seen your reaction to 'Jessica', and just before I saw this I watched Miz T's reaction to 'Working Man', so I now know you are familiar with both groups. Do not hesitate to continue to explore both...when you wanna rock, throw on some '2112'. When you wanna groove with something kinda soulful, play the 'Brothers and Sisters' album. Neither will disappoint.
Rush for the win.
Greggs Vocals seals the deal
This isn't really a fair fight. While Rush may have superior technology, musicianship, and production on their side, AB have a raw simplicity that delves beyond the mundane with soulful emanations that free our spirit with superior songwriting and the ability to make us feel like we were there.
As much as I liked both, and as much as I like the Allman Brothers, still think Rush is much better.
In these two groups , you have some of the best musicians of the rock era. I was fortunate enough to see both groups live. I'll have to go with the Brothers. Something that they both have in common is, they are both better live. It would be worth your time to check out Whipping Post Live at the Beacon Theater.
There is no comparison of the two bands. The Allman Brothers are far superior to Rush. They are not even in the same league. The Allman Brothers win.
Only 54%??? I'm literally disappointed! The Allmans are on a level ALL THEIR OWN!
Can't pick guys, it's short circuit my brain.
RUSH🤘😝🤘
Shout out to Connie and Tammie for this epic Rock Battle 🤘Join us tonight for our Friday Night Livestream: ruclips.net/user/liveYKqkvI-8PDg?feature=share
I love the concept of a battle of the bands. Two epic songs. While Tom Sawyer gets 100 times more airplay on classic rock radio, I think Whipping Post is better.
Whipping post I like Rush but the Whipping post is just a better song. And there souther boys USA Rush is in Canada A hahahah. The only ban that can hold too this ban is Grand Funk Railroad out of Flint Michigan there Flintstones 1960s they started.
Rush. Had to turn off after a minute of that AB crap
Rush cannot be beaten!
😂🤣 Send it to the aliens. And yes, definitely the winner!
Apples to oranges and the Allmans take it!
ABB
These genres can't be compared. That's the Allman Brothers best example of a tricky arrangement (11\8 intro). A jamming blues band against the best crossover prog band. Rush are on a different level of musicianship. It's like comparing high school to grad school
Your comparison is way off, I've seen the Allman bros live many times and they are top notch musicians. High school to grad school is way too big a stretch. No one touches Duane Allman on guitar. No disrespect to Rush, they're great but you're insane .
Rush are better musicians from a technical perspective but there's much more to music than that. I really like rush and other prog bands (especially elp and dream theater) but nothing compares to live abb when it comes to feel and the musical trip the band takes you on.
Tom Sawyer all the way. The most iconic song off their most commercially successful record and still one of the all time great Songs.
Yeah, but they have one big strike against them:
Canada.
That was such a battle. This channel makes me laugh so hard. Truthfully the Allman brothers were legendary. Duane suffered a motorcycle accident and died. But his guitar coupled to the voice of his brother Greg, in this song is a typical of what real Blues is in the realm of Rock music.
Keep up the good work y’all
I'll agree that Rush has more hits, but there's little chance of anything topping Whipping Post -- it gives me chills every time. Now if we want to be more fair and rate the song quality PER MUSICIAN, then Rush is way up there. I'm always impressed that 3 guys -- from Canada of all places -- can make such great music. Definitely one of the best rock trios of all time.
Undoubtedly Rush.
Two very tough choices, especially considering the virtuosity of both bands. Rush alone has two of the most amazing performers, especially with Neil Peart, and not to ignore Geddy Lee on bass or vocals, but the ABB had two guitar players who could burn out the lights individually and a vocalist who was old before his time in Gregg Allman. Winner: the Brothers.
Was 16 when we listened to this as we rode about in our Chevy muscle cars.{All man Bros Post de whipping }
You’re comparing apples to onions here, two totally different bands. What’s next? Battle of the BS’s, Black Sabbath’s Into the void versus Bob Seger’s Old time rock n roll! Try and keep the genres similar when doing these songs.
Songs are chosen at Random and we let our audience vote on the songs. If Bob Seger has a better song over Sabbath, Seger will win. Good music holds up regardless of genre.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT uh oh, I’m in TNT jail. It was just a joke, although I get your viewpoint.
Tom Sawyer VS. Whipping Post? They are completely different types of songs, sorry but it’s a bogus battle.
Sorry, but it was glorious and a lot of fun.
Classic rock epic songs...bogus? It's an epic battle of two songs that approach the genre differently.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT That's the spirit
RUSH 100% every day…
The drums on the Rush song are so crisp! You can totally tell the drums were blowing Nitasha's mind lol! Rush for the win! Allman Brothers so soulful and timeless. Great battle!
Almond?
@@xJRx77 they're just nuts
@@xJRx77 Ya was hungry thinking of food lol!
Silly Question...it’s the Brothers! I could never stand those boys from Canada! Great craftsman, the singer sucks. His voice is like nails on a chalk board! The Brothers have it all! The Allman’s Brothers are the class! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Silly answer
Never liked the singers voice myself
Apples and Oranges. Both great
Allman Brothers all day long. Pure simple music, none of that "techno-crap". . . . .
Yeah, Simple.
Tom Sawyer...techno? All I hear is a few synth lines in there
Two completely different genres. Allman jam band blues/rock vs progressive rock... poetry?
Lynard Skynard song- Raiford, or song- Mr Banker
Been a major RUSH fan since the first album came out but I don't have Tom Sawyer in RUSH's top 10. Whipping Post wins this battle.
I'd rather listen to Whipping Post.
Rush v Whipping Post??? that's like a 1 seed and a 2 seed facing off in the first round of the NCAA tourney....
Whew...that was a close one! 🫣
Boo Hiss......
lol
Oh and if you really want to see and hear something new look up the the Documentary the Ban call Death it's a real Detroit story 3 black bros. Playing punk rock in 1968 to 1974 and stop. That's a cool story and in Detroit.
Check the channel. I’ve covered them
@The Adventures of TNT oh OK I didn't see that one but a kick ass story in true USA DETROIT music. Oh Alice Copper going on the road with Rob Zombie Alice Copper true DETROIT rock star this has to be the last run for the old school rock stars. New bans just are not that good.
I absolutely love both songs, but I can’t choose a winner because they are so different styles. Both voices are unique. Guitar is awesome on both. Rush had Neil on drums but Allman band had 2 drummers. Rush had 3 musicians, Allman had 7. I can’t choose. It depends on my mood.
This is such a tough choice because they are both amazing im gonna go with the canadian band rush because I'm canadian...
The Allman Brothers "Whipping Post" is so far above Rush. Nothing against the latter, but there is no comparison. I thought this was satire at first.
@@d.a.w.975 Yes, rush is on another level indeed, a much lower level.
Rush cannot compare. Duane Allman one of the best guiratist ever, and Dickey Betts close behind. Two drummers playing simultaneously. Do you know how difficult that is? Then add Gregg Allman's timeless voice.
Apparently you're the only one who agrees with you. 🤔
@@Fred-vy1hm Ha, read comments. "Known as one of rock’s best live acts, the Allman Brothers Band were one of only two artists whose live albums ranked in the top 50 of Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” for their “At Fillmore East” album." Rolling Stone.
@@Fred-vy1hm
Agree to disagree.
Rush all the way for me. ABB just sounds small and too much church organ. The guitar solos aren’t anything special and the epic part of the song screeches like an injured bird. If you’re want to compare try 2112 just kicks ABB butt.
